AN INSIGHT: FLUME

Audience Research

Page 2: Flume: Audience Research

We can see that the Flume Remix of this song is incredibly popular. Gaining 31+ million views

& no doubt the views are from fans of Disclosure and also Flume. Both artists are

established in their own right, creating similar styles of music then attracts a wide and

familiar target audience.

YouTube:Flume has remixed a number of well known songs, some of which have ended up with more YouTube

views than the original song. This shows that Flume has a large following. Also by creating his own YouTube channel it enables his fans to find him

directly.

Above I have print screened the songs that YouTube suggested I listen to after ‘You & Me’. This shows the genre and type of songs that a similar audience would be interested in, and therefore enables me to watch these to observe

the codes and conventions that my target audience look for within similar

music videos/music genres.

Spotify:

Flume has a large following on the music App, Spotify. Following this, there is a list of automated artists that relate to Flume’s style of music. This are all artists that follow the

same genre and style of music meaning Flumes’ fans will be interested in their music also. Spotify also shows the number of views each of his top songs has had - this then shows how

popular and established he is an an artist in the music industry and shows his large following, proving his music to be popular.

Whilst researching Eliza Doolittle online, I found she wasn’t as popular as Flume, as she produces an indie genre of music that isn’t as widely recognised. But as you can see in my

search, Disclosure came up as a related artist, proving their collaboration on the song - ‘you & me’ was extremely popular.

Although Eliza Doolittle doesn’t have a large YouTube following, some of her songs have reached millions of views,

showing her to be entertaining.

House Music Google Search:

Flume produces lots of music under the genre ‘House Music’. I then searched this on Google. One of the results was the same as one of the music videos I had analysed, (Ready for Your Love - Gorgon City). Also many of the other results were music videos I had watched and have taken inspiration from towards my own. This shows that the style of

music video I want to create is widely popular and will therefore draw in a large audience that all enjoy the same genre of music.
