craft traditional Smoky Mountain trout dry flies, wet flies, terrestrials and nymphs that are tailor-made for our beautiful East Tennessee and Western North Carolina freestone trout streams.

Some of our fly tyers will be demonstrating how to tie beautiful and “super effective” tailwater trout flies that are exceptional fish catchers on the South Holston, Holston, Hiwassee, Clinch, Watauga and Caney Fork Rivers.

Fly Tyer’s Weekend will also feature several supremely talented warmwater fly tyers who specialize in preparing bass, carp, saltwater and panfish flies. They will be demonstrating how to tie top-water poppers, deer hair bass bugs, rubber-legged nymphs and hair wing streamers.

In addition, there will be some “really out there” tyers who will be demonstrating how to tie effective eye catching fly patterns using some “non-traditional materials” and tying techniques. This lineup of truly exceptional demonstration tyers will entertain, inform, educate and mesmerize attendees with their magic at the vise as well as sharing their tall fishing tales.

1. Fly Tyer’s Weekend is located in the stunningly beautiful Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee – Our show location at Tremont Lodge and Resort in Townsend, Tennessee is just 4 miles from the Western Entrance to Smoky Mountain National Park. Early November is past peak for viewing fall leaf colors, but there will still be enough beautiful, bright leaf colors for incredible sightseeing and photography.

2. Our exhibit hall is at the beautiful Tremont Lodge and Resort – Tremont Lodge has been totally refurbished with a rustic mountain theme to the lobby, conference halls and guest rooms. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, beautifully furnished and have mountain vista views. Tremont Lodge and Resort is offering discounted

rooms to Fly Tyer’s Weekend attendees. Call (865) 448-3200 to book your reservation under “The Fly Tyer’s Weekend” block of rooms. You must make your reservations by phone.

3. Fly Tyer’s Weekend is free for attendees – The demonstration fly tying exhibits are free for all attendees. So bring your friends and family. The “for-profit” shows can be prohibitively expensive for a family to attend. From 9:00AM until 5:00PM Saturday, November 7th, and Sunday, November 8th, it will be a fun, entertaining and educational fly fishing experience.

4. Fly Tyer’s Weekend will feature more demonstration fly tyers than any other Southeastern fly fishing show – Fly Tyer’s Weekend is the largest

gathering of demonstration fly tyers in the Southeastern United States. Not even the “National Fly Fishing Shows” can boast of having as many or as diverse demonstration tyers as Fly Tyer’s Weekend. At no other Southeastern fly fishing show can you watch up close and fellowship with over forty of America’s finest fly tyers as they display their talent at the vise.

5. Learning from the best tyers in the Southeastern USA – Our demonstration tyers all love to share, teach and discuss their fly tying techniques with attendees. They are friendly, professional and passionate about passing their knowledge on to others. Our tyers enjoy answering questions and sharing their fishing knowledge. Many are exceptional and entertaining story tellers with a delightful sense of humor.

6. Our tyers are men and women spanning from 12-years to over 80-years old – Some have been tying flies for over 50 years and others have been tying for just a few years. All of them are exceptional fly tying artists.

7. Some of our tyers are nationally famous published fly fishing writers, fly fishing video personalities and market fly designers – Several are locally famous Smoky Mountain fly tyers. Others are not so nationally or locally famous but are incredible tyers who will give you their very best during the show.

8. The trout fishing in the national park and local streams can be outstanding during November – If you love targeting trophy brown trout, this is the prime season to do it in the Smokies.

9. Fly tying classes at Little River Outfitters for a nominal fee – For those who are new to fly tying or who want to improve their tying skills, there will be some fly tying classes taught at the Little River Outfitters Fly Shop classroom for a nominal fee. Visit the Southeastern Council’s website for more details and to sign up for classes. Spaces are limited.

10. Don’t forget to visit Little River Outfitters Fly Shop during Fly Tyer’s Weekend It is a beautiful and fully stocked, full service fly shop. In my opinion, this is the best stocked and professionally managed fly shop in Tennessee.

11. Saturday BBQ, Beer and Film Festival Fundraiser – On Saturday, November 7th, the International Federation of Fly Fishers - Southeastern Council will host a fundraising BBQ and a showing of the International Fly Fishing Film Festival (IF4).

Proceeds from the raffle and auction items will support the brand new Fly Fishing Museum of the Southern Appalachians. The Museum is the home of the rich heritage of fly fishing from Maryland to Georgia and provides a base for education related to fly fishing with workshops, exhibits and presentations.

Movie tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Doors open at 6:00PM and the show starts at 6:30PM. Don’t miss the bonfire!

Tickets will be available in advance at Little River Outfitters, the Southeastern Council’s website and the IF4 website.

Please mark your calendars and plan to attend Fly Tyer’s Weekend. I look forward to seeing y’all there. It will be a blast.
