5 axles configuration

Three heavy duty straight I-Beam front axles ensure high front approachanglerequiredforoff-roadapplications.Eachaxle’stechnical load capacity is 9 tonnes. The axles are fitted with maintenance free unit bearings pre-mounted in hub, which leads to less maintenance & faster repairs.

Allthethreeaxlesaresteerable.Thefirsttwoaxlesaremechanical steerable with hydraulic assistance. The third axle is steered by electronic actuation and hydraulic assistance. The steerability of all the three front axles improves the manoeuvrability and dynamic stability of the vehicle.

Robust chassis for heavy load

The chassis frame is made from high-strength steel. Its front section is bent outwards to accommodate the cab and engine, and has the same material thickness in the web and the flanges.

The frame section thickness is 8 mm, flange width of 90 mm and 300 mm high. Frame section is reinforced with a 5 mm thick reinforcement profile all along the full length of chassis. Frame liner is also made of high-strength steel which provides extra rigidity to the chassis.

Front two axles are fitted with three-leaf parabolic spring suspension with extra stiffness. The springs feature rubber spacers in the ends, between the spring leaves,which help to reduce vibration and bumps.

Third front axle has electronically programmable air suspension, which ensures right load distribution across thevehicleundergivengrossvehicleweight.Additionalprotective cover on air suspension bellows makes it more reliable for use in the mining conditions.

Rear suspension is of bogie design with 11-leaf springs. It is also equipped with rubber-journalled V-stays and reaction rods. The rear suspension is reinforced to meet tough operating demand of heavy duty mining applications. Rubber springs between the spring leaves and axles contribute to good comfort under all axle loads.

Volvo patented Z-cam brake system offers good safety with high efficiency combined with excellent brake feel and control. The Z-cam wheel brake is characterized by high braking effect and precise brake application and offers increased braking safety on heavier vehicles.

Parking brake on Second Front axle and both the Drive axles fulfills the requirements of added parking brake power for heavy load operations.

12-24 Cross-ply mining tyres ensure better footprint of the vehicle in rough mining roads, while carrying heavy load. It also helps in improving the ground clearance of the vehicle, to ensure unhindered operation in off-road applications.

TheL1EH1isaerodynamicallydesignedwithsmoothsurfaces and rounded corners in the front. Tailored airflow systems and complete chassis skirts additionally lowers the air resistance.

The interior of the cab has been designed and developed with the focus on the driver. The driver has good all-round vision through the large windscreen, large rear-view mirrors and a close-quarter mirror on the passenger side. The effective main head lamps provide a concentrated, long-range beam of light.

Shift by cable and servo function provide high driver

comfort The VT2514B is equipped with a newly developed shift by cable which results in short, distinct gear lever movements.

The gear lever is completely free of vibration, which contributes to comfortable operation and a lower noise level in the cab. The gearbox also has patented synchronization which, with the assistance of a mechanical servo function, provides extra power at the moment of synchronization.

Ergonomically designed seats The seats are ergonomically designed and available with various seat adjustments to find the perfect driving position.

Low and convenient entry EntryintotheVolvoFMcabislow,withtwoanti-slip,illuminated steps made of stainless steel. There are sturdy grab-rails on either side in the door opening. To permit more convenient entry, the steering wheel can be tilted out of the way towards the windscreen.

Less kerb weight which can carry more payload More than the necessary expenditure of energy contributes toexcessiveconsumptionoffuel.Lesskerbweightforgivenpayload consume less energy for transportation which directly translates to less fuel. More productivity is achieved with less kerb weight of the vehicle and more payload. The power to weight ratio improves with less kerb weight.

Electronically controlled operations The engine control module takes in data from several sensors on the engine and the vehicle. The control unit compares currentreadingswithstoredparametersAndadjustfuelquantity and injection timing accordingly, throughout the engine’s operation. The vehicle control unit collects data from various cab sensors for vehicle speed, accelerator position, service brake, parking brake, cruise control, retarder and power takeoff,and then transmit it to various other control unitsinthesystem.AllElectronicControlUnitsareintegratedwith each other for accuracy in controls. This keeps the fuel consumption low.

Integrated split gear gives low fuel consumption The split gear, which is a compact and sturdily supported unit, is fitted on the input shaft in the forward part of the basic unit. The split gear is operated by compressed air, and the split cylinder is integrated into the clutch casing. The high and low positions of the split gear are preselected with a button

on the gear lever knob. Shifting takes place as soon as the clutch pedal is depressed.

In the low-split position, a downshift takes place which halves the shifting step between two basic gears. Thanks to the low-split function, the correct gear can be selected in relation to the engine’s economy speed, which results in lower fuel consumption.

Thehighsplittogetherwith6thgearprovidesadirectgearwhere the power passes straight through the gearbox with a minimum of friction losses.

Engine idle shutdown Engineidleshutdownhappensafterthreeminuteswhenfour conditions are satisfied. The conditions are engine must be warmed up, must be running at idle speed, parking brake must be activated and no usage of brake pedal nor acceleratorpedalmustbethere.Adisplaywarning(nobuzzer) will be given 20 seconds before shutdown.

Crankcase ventilation TheD13A480engineoffersfullysealedcrankcaseventilationasan option - the system is called closed crankcase ventilation.

The crankcase gases in the valve cover are returned via a centrifuge-equipped oil separator to the turbo-charger. The oil mist is separated in the maintenance-free centrifuge system, requiring no filter replacements. This system provides an extremely clean, environmentally friendly engine by re-using the crankcase gases.
