A.B. Miller High School Friday Night Live (FNL) students in partnership with the San Bernardino
County FNL program organized and hosted a Safe and Sober Kick-off event to promote
awareness of the dangers of underage drinking and driving or getting into a vehicle with a driver
who is under the influence during prom and graduation. Eleven FNL chapters from San
Bernardino County attended this event. Other community organizations that were present to
provide more information about teen safety included San Bernardino County Department of
Public Health Local Oral Health & Communicable Disease programs, Planned Parenthood from
Orange and San Bernardino Counties, California Health Collaborative, and AT&T. A special
thank you to all in attendance!

students from San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties attended the
event. Students participated in breakout sessions geared toward mental health,
skill building and physical health. On breaks students took in the scenery with
nature hikes through snow covered paths. Thank you to the staff at Riverside
FNL for organizing the event and to all the motivational speakers that
presented to our youth. Keep on inspiring!

In the month of February, Club Live (CL) students at Woodcrest Junior
High in Ontario and Cobalt Institute of Math and Science in Victorville
each organized and hosted an anti-bullying lunch activity at their school.
The activity was to encourage their peers to pledge against bullying. The
CL students at each of the indicated middle schools created a banner
where other students could trace their hand and write their name or a
slogan inside of it. Students that pledged received a free CL incentive to
thank them for their commitment and participation against bullying. The
lunch activities were a complete success as numerous pledges were
received from students at each school.
Friday Night Live (FNL) students at Citrus Valley High
School hosted a SAMHSA Town Hall Meeting to
prevent underage drinking among their peers. Students
addressed the issue of underage drinking at events
such as prom and grad night. Attendees included
school officials, student organizations, community
partners, and local law enforcement. Topics of
discussion included underage drinking at school events, school policies, and local social host
ordinance. Students proposed several ideas to reduce underage drinking among their peers
utilizing several media platforms to disseminate a message of being safe and sober. Students
will collaborate with clubs on campus and community partners to put their ideas into action. Way
to go Blackhawks, keep up the great work!
Students from Operation New Hope,
Buena Vista High School, and Oak View High School attended a field trip to California State University San Bernardino. Students were given a presentation on the admission process, a full campus tour, and a private tour of the art department. Students enjoyed the demonstrations of glass blowing and ceramics given by Alison Petty and current graduate students.
