City Editor Todd Helberg finishes a story just minutes before the daily newspaper’s 11:00 a.m. print deadline. Editors and reporters compile nearly the entire news portion of each day’s edition between 6:30 a.m. ad 11:00 a.m.

Pressman Jim Meyer moves a roll of newsprint to the pressroom. The Crescent-News uses nearly 600 tons of

newsprint each year. Each roll weighs in excess of 500 pounds.

Pressman Adam Miller checks a pallet of adver-tising inserts prior to their insertion into the newspa-per. Just moments after printed newspapers leave the press Crescent-News mail room staff members insert that day’s adver-tising preprints. The com-pleted newspapers are then bundled and given to drivers for delivery to stores, news machines and walking route carri-ers.

Circulation department member Dennis Sawyer puts newspapers in a Crescent-News news machine. The Crescent-News sells more than 1,600 copies each weekday and more than 3,000 copies on Sundays through machines and in store locations.
