Choosing The Right Accessories For Your Home

StyleBy Stan Writesel Photography by Nanette Kellerman

Art work is a great accessory which creates a strong focal point that defines a space and can reflect your personality. Keep in mind that art and mirrors do not need to hang on a wall. They can be set on a mantel or leaned against a wall to create a more casual feel. The final step when designing a room is selecting accessories to complete the look. When choosing the right accessories it is important to use the principles of interior design. In addition to incorporating scale, color, texture, repetition and rhythm, accessories should reflect your personality and create an inviting atmosphere. hen purchasing accessories it is imperative to select the correct scale for your room. For instance a small paper weight on a large table or a large floral arrangement on a coffee table would not be the best option. An area rug is one of the most important pieces in any room; it provides a foundation and defines the space in a large area. You can use the rug to incorporate pillows with colors and textures that bring the eye from the floor to the sofa to make a connection. When introducing accent colors using a variety of decorative objects can have an impact. As an example, the three daisy chain vases in the photo to the left are simple but gives an extra punch of color without being overwhelming and provides visual stability for a room. While symmetry tends to convey a formal tone, asymmetry communicates a more casual feel. This, however, is not set in stone. For instance, if you hang a cluster of mismatched framed mirrors on a wall and then border the grouping with two larger rectangular mirrors, it creates a visual interest and prevents a cluttered look.24 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

If you have collections of small items, group them together and use risers to achieve different heights. A grouping of nicely framed family photos of different sizes will create a wonderful conversation area on an end table (a candle will accent this perfectly). When placing family photos a rule of thumb to keep in mind is that formal pictures look better in a formal room, casual pictures in casual room. If you want a dramatic look go large. Consider the vases on the console table to the left. Because of the tall ceiling this space can handle the oversized glass containers with tall dried grass. Using coffee beans adds a great texture not to mention the terrific aroma. Table top books work well on a large coffee table in addition to generating great conversations. Plants and floral arrangements bring an organic element and go with just about any style room. Decorative coasters are a must when entertaining in your home. In addition to the small accents, your guests will feel comfortable knowing where to place their drinks. These are just a few design tips and remember accessioning your home is like accessorizing your clothing it will reflect your style and personality. In short, it will project who you really are as a person. Have fun when selecting your accessories and dont be afraid to step out of the box. And remember sometimes less is more!Beginning to End Interiors 941-924-4481 www.b2end.com

As the antiquated saying goes, A penny earned is a penny saved. Nowadays, a penny is not worth the impression on the metal. The value of a dollar isnt nearly what it used to be, making matters for women in particular very difficult in their later years if they havent planned properly for the days ahead. It is an unfortunate statistic that after retirement, many women outlive their husbands at an alarming rate. Some of these women have the misfortune to find themselves in horrific situations due to lack of financial planning for a host of reasons. The importance of women learning to overcome the fear of money, investing and retirement planning is paramount to their future wellbeing and sound financial security. Several elements come into play when money is the topic of conversation. For many women, it is a taboo subject. Yet, other women are frantic about not having adequate funds for their future. The mismanagement of money; and lack of a healthy financial education, may leave women feeling lost or fearful. And it is often the case that never having had the opportunity to understanding investments, annuities, stock and bonds or even Certificates of Deposits and how money should work for you can become overwhelming. The solution for such a circumstance is to secure a financial planner who is experienced, licensed and has your best financial future in mind. The perfect financial planner is not only an advisor, but is also interested, above all, about your needs and your specific goals for your future. He will take into account your current financial standing and will acknowledge the myriad of challenges facing women today no matter the size of your income. He will use his expertise to help build a lucrative financial portfolio. In addition, the best suited financial advisor should be willing to educate you about your portfolio; he should answer any questions you have, and should handle your money from the26 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

ground up, starting from where your finances currently exist tracking the growth with you. Having personal sound insight and respect for your own finances is liberating, for anyone, particularly for a seasoned woman. A financial planner of integrity is eager to listen to and accommodate his clientele, and is well informed. His priority is to the client and should ask you pertinent questions, making sure not to tell you what to do with your money. He is there to offer sound professional advice. Ladies, this is your call to action! Its never too late to start saving for a rainy day.By Lillian Phillips

90 Elegance SportingYears ofBugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport

By Mai Yomioto

What is remarkable about Bugattis is that they have not only always been serious contenders on the worlds racing tracks, but have managed to leave a dashing impression on its major boulevards too. ugattis little sports car of the early 1920s whose performance proved so hard to beat was the Brescia. It came in three different chassis lengths. The small supercar had a four-cylinder 1500 cc engine with overhead camshaft, which produced around 50 horsepower. The name Brescia came after its legendary quadruple victory in the famous Italian town in 1921. The longer chassis versions, which were perfect undercarriages for elegant sports bodies, were known as the Brescia Modifie. The Type 23 exhibited in Essen is the longest-chassis version, with a 2.55-metre wheelbase clothed in a two-seater roadster body.

B

The Type 57 Bugatti was first unveiled at the 1933 Paris Automobile Exhibition. Its development was very much influenced by Jean Bugatti, the founders son, who was just 25 at the time. Its straight eight-cylinder engine displaced 3,300 cc and produced around 135 horsepower through two overhead camshafts. Variations of the Bugatti Type 57 won the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1937 and 1939. The two-seater coup shown here, with its twin-tone paintwork, is called the Atalante and was the sportiest of the five different body styles supplied from the Bugatti works. This coup also features what is known as the Toit ouvant rolling roof in English which can simply be slid backwards to open. Only 34 vehicles were given the Atalante body. The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 can now also be considered a classic. Entering into production in 2005, this cars design is timeless but its technology remains unique to this day. In fact it could be said that the Veyron became a true classic the day it first left the studio at Molsheim, Alsace, where it is built meticulously by hand. The coup version of the Veyron is limited to 300 examples, all of which have been sold. The W16-cylinder engine produces 1,001 horsepower and 1,200 horsepower in the Super Sport. The Super Sport still holds the world speed record for a production vehicle.continued on page 32... FOCUS of SWFL 2012 31

Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse

Following the success of the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, Bugatti did not wait long before the company received inquiries about an open-top version of the Grand Sport that could also deliver an uncompromised sporting experience. We were instantly electrified by the idea of transferring the power of the Super Sport to the Grand Sport, that delivers a maximum of 1,001 hp, thus taking the roadster to a new level, says Wolfgang Drheimer, president of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. He continues: Our team has managed to transfer the worlds most powerful car engine to the open-top sports car, while taking the vehicles dynamics and aerodynamic parameters into consideration. We are proud to present the fastest roadster ever... the 1,200 hp Grand Sport Vitesse.

The Grand Sport Vitesse is powered by a 7.9 liter W16 engine, with four turbochargers and improved intercoolers. Furthermore, Bugatti has extensively reinforced all drivetrain components in order to safely transfer the immense force the Vitesse is capable of. As a consequence of the larger turbochargers and the overall reduced back pressure, it was even possible to reduce the fuel consumption slightly, even with the increased power output. The classic Grand Sport, a sports car with an elegant, artistic orientation, will, of course, remain in the range. Along with only 350 uniquely built Veyrons. As with age you get wiser, better, and in Bugattis case, well much faster. Over the year's Bugatti strives to develop more than something with four wheels. But a motoring experience of elegance and nobility, happy ninetieth Bugatti.

How does it get you from point A to B? The dcor is executively covered with carbon fiber, aluminum and magnesium (mostly carbon fiber), of course all comfort areas carry the highest quality soft to touch leather. The bi-color black trim parts (for example, in the roof console) are also new in the Grand Sport version, as is a special seat design for the Grand Sport Vitesse. With that said, the answer is, In Comfort. If it is acceleration you need then, 2.4 seconds from a standstill to get to 60 mph. During my test drive I discovered, this is a car you can drive on a daily basis, but with over a thousand horsepower temping you. It would be better to leave the Grand Sport only for the weekends.

FloRidAs NEw PowER oF ATToRNEy ACT

On October 1, 2011, Floridas new Power of Attorney Act went into effect. A power of attorney (POA) is a legal document that you use to appoint another person as your agent while you are living to handle your business and financial affairs. Because the new POA law differs significantly from the prior law, it may be a good idea to sign a new one. Here are six things you need to know about the new law:1. Signing formalities are crucial. The new law requires a person making a Florida power of attorney (called the "principal") to sign the document in front of two witnesses and a Notary Public. 2. New rules governing multiple agents. Under the new Florida law, if two or more agents are named in a power of attorney to act at the same time, then they can act independently of each other unless the power of attorney specifies otherwise. 3. Filing for divorce triggers revocation of a spouse's authority. The mere filing of a petition for divorce will terminate the authority of the principal's spouse to act under the principal's power of attorney. 4. Powers of attorney will no longer be allowed to "spring" into action. Springing powers of attorney will no longer be allowed to be created in Florida, instead all new powers of attorney will be effective immediately. However, springing powers of attorney signed before October 1, 2011 will remain valid. 5. Specific authority must be granted. The following catch-all phrase that commonly appears in powers of attorney can no longer be relied on:

"In general, to do all other acts, deeds, matters, and things whatsoever in or about my estate, property, and affairs, whether or not particularly or generally described and any and all other acts, deeds, matters, and things not particularly or generally set forth herein, as fully and effectively to all intents and purposes as the undersigned could do if personally present; and to employ, retain in employment and discharge such persons (both professional and otherwise) as my Agent may deem necessary to assist in the performance of any of the foregoing." Instead, a power of attorney must list with specificity the authority being granted. Although the new Act provides that POAs signed before October 1, 2011 are valid, there is a practical reason for updating your power of attorney. Once the Act has been in existence for a while, third persons relying on a POA will be accustomed to the requirements of the new Act. If a pre-October 1, 2011 POA is presented sometime down the road, it may come under heightened scrutiny, making it more difficult to have it honored by third persons. This would undermine the reason to have a POA in the first place. I hope this information on Floridas new power of attorney Act is helpful. For more information contact: Attorney Kevin Pillion Tel. In order to promote changes that will help restore our oceans to their healthful balance. With an understanding that the Arctic landscape is changing faster than any other place on Earth and is in danger of vanishing completely, the film was produced particularly to build awareness and inspire greater protection for the Arctic Wilderness. irected by two-time Academy Award nominated filmmaker, Greg MacGillivray, the film is narrated by Academy Award winner Meryl Streep, who previously provided narration for MacGillivray Freeman Films Living Sea and, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, narrated Hurricane on the Bayou for the MacGillivray Freeman Films Educational Foundation. TO THE ARCTIC 3D features outstanding songs by Paul McCartney that aptly reinforce the deeply moving, grand adventure. Like Streep, McCartney shares MacGillivrays profound regard for wildlife and the environment.

Three Goals: Support international efforts to protect 10% of the ocean by 2020 Inspire people to eat seafood more sustainably Reduce plastic marine debrisAn extraordinary journey to the top of the world, TO THE ARCTIC 3D is the ultimate tale of survival. The film takes audiences on a never-before-experienced journey into the lives of a mother polar bear and her two seven-month-old cubs as they navigate the changing Arctic wilderness they call home. The filmmakers followed the mother and her two cubs for five days which has never been done before. Captivating, adventurous, and intimate footage brings moviegoers up close and personal with this familys struggle to survive in a frigid environment of melting ice, immense glaciers, spectacular waterfalls, and majestic snowbound peaks. This is the first time a polar bear family has been tracked-and-filmed in the wild for five days straight. Produced by Greg MacGillivrays son and partner, Shaun MacGillivray, TO THE ARCTIC 3D will be released exclusively to select IMAX theatres starting April 20, 2012. MacGillivray Freeman Films is the worlds best-selling producer of films for IMAX theaters. TO THE ARCTIC 3D was filmed entirely in 15/70mm, designed to take full advantage of the IMAX 3D format, capturing spectacular shots of one of the most remote, beautiful, and vulnerable regions of our planet. Its our hope that by engaging people through seeing the film, they will want to make the social changes necessary to save and restore our oceans, says Shaun MacGillivray who also serves as managing director of One World One Ocean. www.oneworldoneocean.org

All my classmates taunted us regularly and relentlessly because of our boyish figure. It wasnt until later in life I wished I could have that boyish figure back and the freedom to eat chocolate and Doritos guilt free. My shame of her waif like body left her sweaty and miserable almost every summer, yet, she never complained and always had the fortitude to carry me on any new adventure I desired. As the years passed she began to change her appearance by growing two little lumps on her scrawny frame, unmanageable hair and a set of crooked teeth making her look like a really ugly boy, again, I was unsympathetic. Even with all my loathing she stayed true to me by being strong, healthy and agile allowing me to play, swim, learn and explore the world around us. The entry into puberty brought continuous change and I stayed committed to hating her for not mutating in a way I believed would have brought both of us joy. We were clearly not on the same page. I pushed her daily to exercise and eat only what I thought would serve me not her. We spent our entire twenties fighting like two old ladies. Just like a couple heading for divorce we grew to hate each other, only in this case, there wasnt a judge in the land who would be able to separate us. I was stuck with her and she was stuck with me. She was always asking for food or sleep and the more she asked the less I gave her. Instead, I would punish her with hours of aerobics to Olivia Newton Johns Lets Get Physical. She had no idea the pressure I was under to make her look good. By the time we arrived to our thirties we were at an all out war with each other until one day in our late thirties, my body and I decided to change the world we got pregnant. During this time it was my turn to show compassion towards my body as she stretched, bloated, got sick and winced in pain. I even allowed her to eat all the foods she craved; chips and lots of French fries - I still allow her a generous amount of flexibility when it comes to French fries. During the pregnancy she betrayed me again, allowing our boobs to grow into the size of two peaches on Barry Bonds type steroids.

My Bodyand I Have A Story To TellBy Agi Smith

My body and I have a long history together and it wasnt until recently that I recognized the true friendship and loyalty she has unrelentingly given me. I have no recollection of when she was tiny, pudgy and cute, although I wish I did, because it may have been the only time I would have looked at her with non-judgmental eyes. In grade school she embarrassed me regularly because she was so darn skinny. Everyday I would look for creative ways to hide her by dressing her in baggy pants and oversized tops just to conceal those bird legs. No matter how much chocolate I shoved in her mouth or Doritos I forced her to munch on she just wouldnt gain a pound.40 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

Towards the end of our pregnancy she was stretched as far as she could be without popping and I was exhausted listening to her kvetch for the past nine months, but we were a united front. Together we gave birth to the most beautiful little spirit, she was pink and perfect, until the doctor told us she was very ill and would probably not make it! Not make it Like a fly stuck in a jar I was bouncing around in my brain feeling helpless and scared. My body, well, she was calm and knew exactly what to do. She marched into the ICU and told the nurse to hand that baby over to her then she created another miracle she began to feed our precious baby with the two most valuable assets we had our breasts. Eleven years later, our baby girl continues to be our little miracle. Today, I stand before myself in the mirror and see the hips that were once boyish padded with love, love that carried our little girl for years every time she looked up at us and said, uppy. Our face is lined with wrinkles, wrinkles that were once an enemy, now they represent pages in our book of life and they tell the story of a beautiful friendship between my body and my mind. Together we have traveled, chased dreams and have now begun to grow older. We are kindred spirits brought together in this life span and she has generously loaned me her vessel to help me sail through my journey of this existence. A day hopefully a long time from now - will come when we must part ways and I will need to lay her down to rest permanently.

Now days, I try to tell her how much I love her, how beautiful she is and how sorry I am for the years I abused, disrespected or let her down. She rewards me daily with a renewed sense of energy and continuous health. Every morning she places our two feet on the ground and takes us anywhere I wish to go. At times I still look at her and feel disappointed in her shape and how she is beginning to show the signs of an old weathered ship, but then I remind myself how far we have come and how we still have so much to do. I love my body, and she has shown me time and again how much she loves me. She is beautiful, superlative and uniquely one of a kind. We are perfect together and I am eternally grateful for her choosing to take me on this glorious ride. My body and I have a long ways to go with many more stories to tell, but for now, I am happy to say that we are a true love story

Three physicians with Physicians Primary Care of Southwest Florida have been named among the Best Doctors in America for by Castle Connolly Medical in New York.

Selections are made through a national survey of physicians and hospital administrators conducted by Castle Connolly Medical, an independent research and information company that is the nations leading provider of information on physicians. After the votes are tallied, Castle Connolly ensures that the physicians meet the companys criteria, which include board certification, years of experience in their specialties, and a clean disciplinary record. This is an incredible honor for all of us, especially since the nominations are made by our peers, said Dr. Auld, who practices at the Fort Myers OB/GYN office at 9021 Park Royal Drive. Castle-Connolly is widely recognized for its extensive research of the medical profession. This demonstrates to our patients that we have been evaluated and meet their highest standards, said Dr. Kovacevic, who practices at the Cape Coral OB/GYN office at 1265 Viscaya Parkway. As nice as it is to be recognized, our best reviews come from our patients, said Dr. Yankaskas, who practices at both the Fort Myers and Cape Coral OB/GYN offices. Physicians Primary Care of Southwest Florida, a physician-owned and operated medical practice, was formed in 1996 by many long practicing local physicians and has grown to become the largest independent multi-specialty practice in Southwest Florida with more than 45 medical professionals. UltherapyA Novel Minimally invasive ProcedureStephen Prendiville, M.D., is the only Fellowship Trained and double Board-certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon in Lee County. The introduction of Ultherapy into the facial cosmetic realm has stirred a great deal of interest, with features on The Doctors and Dr. Oz offering a breakthrough form of facial rejuvenation. This technology utilizes focused ultrasound waves to stimulate collagen production and facial soft tissue tightening. The question is: How good is Ultherapy? Although the search for the fountain of youth is first credited to explorer Ponce De Leon, this quest has never really abated. American culture has been fascinated with looking younger for generations, and this fascination has only grown stronger with time. The popularity of cosmetic procedures is the United States is born out by a number of recent surveys. The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) reported that more than nine million surgical and nonsurgical procedures were performed in the United States in 2011. The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery reported in 2011 that member surgeons performed an average of 1,000 surgical and nonsurgical procedures in 2011; of these, three quarters were nonsurgical cosmetic procedures. If one was to look back 30 years to the 1980s, the topic of nonsurgical aesthetic procedures was a very short chapter in any Facial Plastic Surgical textbook. However, with societys desire to have improved appearances without downtime, and hence without surgery, there has been a proliferation of nonsurgical options. This trend started with Botox, and quickly moved on to fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse). However, since these minimally invasive procedures are capable of achieving specific targeted goals without reproducing the comprehensive results seen with more invasive procedures like Facelift, Brow Lifts, or Laser Resurfacing, the search continues.44 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

By Stephen Prendiville, M.D.

In the last decade, a technique known as Thermage, a form of facial soft tissue tightening achieved with radiofrequency, was introduced. Unfortunately, results were mixed and unpredictable, making it clear that this procedure was not the nonsurgical Facelift many had sought. Other devices, such as Titan (infrared), and Pelleve (Radiofrequency) have since been marketed in the United States, but have not attained the status of goal standard of minimally invasive facial tightening procedures.

The initial response to Ultherapy has been favorable for facial tightening and brow elevation. A review of patient reactions to Ultherapy on a plastic surgery website (www.realself.com) reveals an approval rating of 83 percent among 143 patient reviews as of press time (Thermage has an approval rating of 39 percent among 250 patient reviews). The main criticisms of Ultherapy have been twofold. The treatment is moderately painful, albeit tolerable utilizing mild oral pain control. The second, via anecdotal reports, has been that Ultherapy works better in patients in their late 40s to late 50s much better than it does for patients in their mid 60s and older. This leads to the conclusion that Ultherapy appears to be the most effective minimally invasive soft tissue technique in its class, although not really a nonsurgical Facelift. In fact, most Facial Plastic Surgeons are skeptical of the words nonsurgical and Facelift within the same sentence, viewing such phraseology more as marketing than reality. In the last several years, a device known as Ulthera was introduced, which utilizes focused ultrasound energy to cause deep tissue heating and subsequent collagen stimulation. Unlike its predecessors in the field of minimally invasive devices, Ultherapy has received an FDA indication for soft tissue tightening (specifically in the ability to achieve a nonsurgical brow lift). Ultherapy can be viewed as an advance in minimally invasive soft tissue tightening, as an effective tool when applied to a patient with appropriate indications and expectations by an experienced Facial Plastic Surgeon. As far as the fountain of youth.. the search continues.

ULTHeRA TigHTenS THe Skin AnD STiMULATeS CoLLAgenUltherapy is typically performed in the outpatient setting, with oral sedation and takes about 60 to 90 minutes to perform. The target areas for soft tissue tightening include the lower cheek, jowl area, neck, and brow area. Since Ultrasound has been used for decades as a soft tissue imaging modality, the depth of tissue penetration is more standardized than with radiofrequency devices like Thermage. In fact, the device has two target depths, 4.5 mm which targets the fibro fatty tissue beneath the skin known as the SMAS (superficial musculo-aponeurotic system), and 3.0 mm to target the deep dermis; the device has imaging capability, allowing for visualization of the treated tissue during treatment. Results are gradual, taking a minimum of two months and as long as six months to unfold, lasting an average of 24 months.

OVE Lin the air for woman over 40

By Gina Battle

Traditionally a blushing bride is on the underside of 26 years old. Couples have been planning their nuptials for months, perhaps up to a year or more. She has chosen a romantic floral bouquet; theyve sampled the perfect tiered cake; invited fabulous guests; lamented over heavenly gowns, this all prior to the day they walk down the aisle to recite their vows. The day has finally arrived! For any bride, no matter what her age, the wedding day is a day like no other. It is a magical day enveloped with love, happiness; hope for the future, and dreams fulfilled. The ideal of the typical age of a bride is no longer the old standard -- young. For various reasons, many women are seeking wedded bliss at a nontraditional time in their life. It is likely getting married or remarried may occur beyond age 40. For the sake of this article, lets assume they are experienced, independent and self-assured individuals. Whether shes a first-time bride or has taken multiple vows, the case is no longer that the mature bride is hiding in unflattering, unassuming fashion on her wedding day. This bride is beautiful, stylish, gushing and she wants to make as vivacious a statement as her younger counterpart. She may even acquiesce and wear white, ivory or a surprisingly bold color. The bride wears what she wants too, said Judie McGlinchey, a professional bridal consultant/stylist. Trending now in bridal fashion is bold hues, like hot pink or royal blue shoes just for an eye-popping punch of color underneath the gown. Some brides are putting a coordinating color sash on the gown or a little feathery flower to incorporate more color for fun.46 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

Styles have changed as women have evolved through decades of bridal fashion design. Designers in the industry are appreciative of a mature woman, particularly those poised with the goal to make her fashion choices coincide with a picture-perfect wedding. Judie says, True, theyre more assertive and know what they want whether theyre having a beach or destination wedding, or marrying on a cruise they just know. The excitement doesnt stop at a certain age group. According to Charlotte Bridal Boutique owners, Lynn and Ken Adkins, the eldest bride they have consulted was a beautiful, glowing, spry woman in her 80s. Although there may be a significant age difference, a bride is a bride and a beautiful bride shouldnt have boundaries because of her age. She looks forward to her wedding day like she did as a little girl.

Judie gives the same advice to younger and mature brides alike. It goes without saying, any bride can be influenced by family and friends, because their opinion means so much to her, and she might give way to the pressure in spite of her true feelings. However, as a result of the assertiveness she possesses, the bride may revisit the shop and choose the original dress, ending up with what she actually wants.

A

nother great piece of advice given to help deter this from happening is simple. Dont bring too many people with you to try on dresses. The more people you have, the more opinions youll have to deal with and the more decisions you will have to make. You can be guided by your family and friends, but its between you and the groom, its your day whether its the first wedding or another. Who can argue with that; wasnt figuring out the seating chart enough drama? Being an older bride does have an essential worthwhile advantage. The 40+ bride most likely leaves behind any illusions about the day after the wedding. Her focus is not only on the day, but she and the groom are more apt to put effort into From this day forward till death do us part. Congratulations to all brides taking their vows to honor and cherish this summer of 2012.

How To avoid MovinG ScaMSBy John Bisney

Memorial Day marks the beginning of the traditional moving season, which runs through Labor Day. But unfortunately, not all of the estimated 37 million Americans who change residences during 2012 will have a smooth move. A few, in fact, will almost certainly have their worldly possessions held hostage by unsavory types known in the professional moving industry as rogue operators -- imposters who are often really criminals. The harm they cause can range from annoying to tragic. Such self-styled movers, hiding behind professional-looking websites that mask their phony operations, usually dont live up to their promises. And as consumers continue to transition away from the Yellow Pages to shopping for services online, they frequently fail to realize that hiring a legitimate mover requires some checking. Immediately snapping up a low price online is fine when looking for a DVD but dont forget that when you move, in simple terms, youre inviting people you dont really know to pack up everything you own in a locked truck and drive away. One of the most common scenarios has these con artists holding trailers of household goods hostage unless the customer pays an exorbitant fee. Or claiming that the items suddenly weigh more than they did when loaded -- and so will now cost substantially more to deliver. Its the last thing a customer needs -- relocating can often be a hectic and stressful life transition said to rank with losing a loved one or a job. During such times, its no wonder consumers may not be as careful as they should be when choosing a mover. Yet taking just a few minutes to check out your mover will almost always prevent such headaches. Here are five tips to help you avoid the bad guys:50 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

1. Be wary of guaranteed estimates over the phone or Internet; instead, get at least three written in-home estimates. Show the mover everything you intend to take, including items in the attic, basement, garage, storage areas, shed, yard, etc. to ensure an accurate estimate. 2. Browse through a prospective movers website thoroughly. Make sure you have a physical address and a phone number. Ask to visit the facility if you have concerns. 3. Be suspicious of carriers seeking large down payments, and never sign any blank forms. 4. Take valuables, such as coins, jewelry, photographs, rare collectibles and important papers with you. 5. If youre moving between states, your mover under federal law must give you copies of three documents at the time of the estimate: the Your Rights and Responsibilities and Ready to Move? brochures, and information on the arbitration program the mover must participate in. Read them carefully.

Finally, if youre moving locally or within the same state, check to see whether the company youre considering is a member of a state moving association (more than half the states have such organizations) or of the American Moving & Storage Association, the industrys national non-profit trade association. If youre moving between states (or within California), make sure your mover displays the ProMover logo. AMSA created the ProMover certification in 2008 as the moving industrys seal of approval to give consumers a way to easily separate reputable, professional movers from con artists out to make a quick buck at their expense. To earn this designation, participating AMSA members undergo an annual screening that includes a review of any felony convictions of the companys owners, officers or majority stockholders regarding matters over which the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the Surface Transportation Board (STB) or any state consumer protection agency has jurisdiction; verification of company ownership with the appropriate state corporation commission; and a review of each applicants website for improper advertising. Each new applicant must also complete a signatory agreement attesting it will comply with FMCSA and STB regulations and uphold the AMSA Code of Ethics. The ProMoverSM logo stands for a set of basic, honest business principles -- a distinctive, stylized M that at a glance gives customers the confidence and comfort of knowing they and their cherished possessions arent being taken for a ride. By following these simple steps, consumers can easily avoid the problems that often accompany doing business with someone who is mover in name only.

ontinuing with a tradition of creating jaw dropping exotics; Lamborghini sets a new presence of the most uncompromising open super sports car of its entire history. The Lamborghini Aventador J is a force of nature on wheels; a one-of-a-kind piece of art, supremely powerful and supremely open. The Aventador J offers its pilot and co-pilot an utterly indescribable experience of power and dynamics. At the same time, the 700 hp two-seater is a first class technology showcase, combining innovative solutions and brand new materials, indicating Lamborghinis enormous expertise in carbon fiber technology. The Lamborghini Aventador J is a radically open automobile exterior and interior meld into each other. The designers and engineers in SantAgata Bolognese have not only dispensed entirely with the roof, but also with the front windshield. This requires that drivers of the Aventador J must have the right equipment for driving at top speeds higher than 200 mph is a highly exclusive experience. As any occupants of the Aventador J are confronted by the element of the wind in much the same way as a superbike rider therefore the right clothing is prerequisite for every trip. With the Lamborghini Aventador J, we have molded our brand DNA into its most definitive form to date. This automobile is as extreme and as uncompromising as only a Lamborghini can be, says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. The new Lamborghini Aventador J is the most radical open supersports car of Lamborghinis

history. Its name comes from our tradition and combines an unconventional design with technology innovation. Nowadays we are confronted with several regulations that we face in the spirit of challenge. The Aventador J is the proof that, despite the rules, Lamborghini will always make people dream, even in the future. Technically based on the Aventador, Lamborghini is carrying on its glorious brand tradition. Take the 1970 Jota, for instance, was the car of legends a Lamborghini Miura with improved performance and virtually redesigned in every detail. It remained a one-off; although some owners subsequently had their Miuras modified to look like the Jota. The letter J is derived from the sporting rules of the FIA world motorsport organization. Its Appendix J defines the technical specification of race cars in the various classes. The Lamborghini Aventador J is a super sports car of positively dramatic single-mindedness and openness. It combines the overwhelming performance of the Lamborghini Aventador with the most intense experience of power and dynamics imaginable in an automobile. The technical basis for the Aventador J is the Aventador LP 700-4, Lamborghinis new twelve-cylinder model. Presented in 2011, the Aventador has been acclaimed by customers and journalists alike. The Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4s technology package is unique its structure is based on an innovative monocoque made from carbon fiberFOCUS of SWFL 2012 57

reinforced polymers that combines systematic lightweight design with optimum stiffness and safety. The new twelve-cylinder with a displacement of 6.5 liters and 700 hp combines the best in high-revving thrills with mighty pulling power. Its super-fast ISR transmission, permanent all-wheel drive and pushrod suspension combine this potent power with the utmost handling precision. In this open version, the monocoque has a largely new design, including the two safety bars behind the seats. The absence of a roof, of the large windshield, of the air conditioning system and of the navigation system obviously takes it to an even lower weight thanks to its carbon fiber construction. The unique expertise of Automobili Lamborghini in the field of carbon fiber reinforced polymers is evident not only in the hi-tech monocoque, but also in the research into further innovative solutions.. The specialists at Lamborghini have developed an even more amazing version of carbon fiber material for the Aventador J. In its first automotive application, this carbon fiber fabric called Carbonskin is made of woven carbon fibers soaked with a very special epoxy resin that stabilizes the fiber structure and keeps the material soft. Like a hi-tech fabric, the carbon fiber mats fit perfectly to every shape. In the Aventador J, the complete cockpit and parts of the seats are clad in this material and shimmer in matt carbon fiber black. Its conceivable that in future there will be many potential applications for this freshly patented and extremely fine-looking material, even very high-end clothing. Clear, precise surfaces, as well as sharp, often broken lines are among the unmistakable styling tools. They consistently emphasize the power and enormous presence of these Italian super sports cars. Not one line is ever accidental the defining principle is always form follows function. This function is very clearly defined for the Aventador J explosive dynamics, extreme driving fun, a58 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

unique experience. Every mile with the Aventador J is extreme fun: something plainly evident from the very first glance. The wheels, of course, were also developed specifically for this car, with 20-inch rims at the front and 21-inch at the rear. The five-spoke aluminum wheels have a central lock system and an additional carbon fiber insert that functions like a small fan for optimum brake ventilation. Naturally, the doors on the Aventador J also open upward. They are considerably thinner than on the

Aventador and are fitted with a tiny, fixed side window. The muscular flanks around the rear wheels are hallmark Lamborghini and make it immediately apparent where this particular bull keeps his power. ecause of its ample dimensions, the eye is drawn inexorably to the rear end. It consists in principle of just three elements the carbon-fiber rear diffuser, the four huge tail pipes and the rear lights with their typical Lamborghini light signature in the form of a Y. The remaining surface area is for heat dissipation and is enclosed only by a black metal mesh. The rear end is crowned by an

enormous fixed spoiler mounted on the body shell by two arms. Form follows function to the 9th degree. The spoiler is supported by two pillars connected by the diffuser: clearly inspired by racing. In comparison with the Aventador LP 700-4, the exclusive Aventador J has special front and rear bumpers. Both bumpers have been supplemented with carbon fiber fins that act as flow deviators. Their purpose is to achieve a significant increase in the vehicles down force at both the front and the rear. Two large openings lay bare both cylinder banks of the mighty V12 power unit with its 6.5 liters of displacement a truly stunning sight for every automobile aficionado. Once inside, youll notice how the interior forms flow seamlessly into each other. This supersports car turns its inside outward and is as open as it can possibly be. Conversely, the exterior flows through the interior a red stripe runs from the front hood, between the two wind deflectors, over the dashboard, down the console to the center tunnel and back up between the seat backs, before leaving the interior and heading for the engine cover panel. This band of color connects the front and the rear of the car, creates a visual separation between the driver and passenger space and is interrupted only by a small control panel housing the starter button and the switches for lights and transmission. What remains, of course, are two programmable TFT displays behind the steering wheel. No navigation or car audio system, nor does it have the associated screen or air conditioning controls these would simply detract from its one and only mission an extreme driving experience. He will possess the most extreme expression of Lamborghinis DNA in existence and a real masterpiece of high technology. Other fans of the super sports cars from Sant Agata Bolognese can rest assured - the Aventador success story has only just begun.FOCUS of SWFL 2012 59

Helio castroeves:Indycar Driver Determined to top the LeaderboardOn March 21, 2012, Helio Castroneves, 37, IndyCar driver and 3 times Indy 500 winner visited the Shell station located on US Highway 19 N, in Pinellas Park; he greeted fans and endorsed a new premium Shell product. Shell is our primary sponsor in St. Pete, and were promoting the new Shell-V Power. It has 20% more nitrogen enriched fuel, he said. Team Penske seems confident the Shell product will provide the optimum in quality and allow for another successful year during the six-month series. Helio has found the ability to realize his dreams. I came to America in 1996, and as they say, its the land of opportunity, and I agree. I really love this country. He said graciously. Currently, he resides in Ft. Lauderdale, FL with his family. native of Brazil, this charismatic, energetic, heartthrob, on and off the racing circuit, has begun his 13th season of the IZOD 2012 racing series with a new car, a new attitude and is out to conquer a feat that only 3 other race car champions has accomplished. He is determined to win a Championship this year with help from sponsors like Shell, his Pit crew and of course, the ultimate driving machine, his No. 3 Shell V-Power Pennzoil-Ultra Dallara/ Chevrolet. In conjunction with celebrating the new season, a new car and a fresh outlook, the meet and greet was an opportunity for this avid sportsman to share time with his loyal fans Its the first race of the season, everyone is fresh.

His enthusiasm was well received as was his giant infectious smile. Helios optimism is unsurpassed, evidenced by the apparent admiration from his diehard fan base. This is me, I love to be in touch with the fans because I am a big fan of a lot of sports and I go to cheer for the team (if its not the person), so I try to give back in the same way. I love being close to everyone. Racing isnt purely a mans sport anymore; it has an appeal to women as well, perhaps its the allure of fast, ultra powered cars, the need for speed, or simply the racing action that takes place on the track.

Watch making is just like the cinema, it hides a precise mechanism which must then generate emotion. The world of ROGER DUBUIS, the arrival of its collections, like spaces of freedom, perfectly matches my principles. You need to take chances in life. And always push yourself.

Away from the track, as he explains, life is incorporated as a whole. Helio said, Racing is a part of my life and my family is part of my life as well, so for us its kind of like, we just need to learn and adapt to living our life. I think my little girl (age 2) loves it because every time were at the races she loves that environment; and not only that, when were away from racing if she sees anything related to it she says, Ah, Daddy.

someone who loves a challenge; and for someone who has cultivated his refreshing down-toearth persona. When asked about his future goals. Our goal is to win! Whether hes wearing a helmet in his Dallara/Chevrolet or doing the Cha-Cha, Hes the guy you want to root for in any competition. If winning the Season Opener is any indication of whats to come, then Helio is on a roll. Go Helio, Go!

Helios desire to race came from his Dad. My dad never raced, but he loved racing: with that, his passion for racing rubbed off. We were never competitive against each other, he was right beside me and he never told me what to do, but steered me in the right direction. For me, it was great to learn Im still learning, but thats the way I got the speed, I would say. This gentleman has the charm, personality, determination and courage of a superstar-action hero; although he doesnt believe it. Nor did he think he could dance. Its no wonder he is a fan favorite as an athlete; as a family man, asFOCUS of SWFL 2012 63

Now Due to arrive in U.S. dealerships in November, the new MercedesBenz SL65 AMG V12 Roadster made its world debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show. The AMG 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine generates a peak output of 621 hp and a maximum torque of 738 lb-ft. The use of an all-aluminum body-in-white delivers a drastic weight reduction of 254 pounds. The distinctive front end is dominated by the new "twin-blade" grille with two blade-shaped fins and the lower horizontal bar in the front skirt in high-gloss chrome.

"The combination of exclusive V12 dynamics and cultivated roadster pleasure was already unique in the previous model. We are certain that, with the new SL65 AMG, we have developed a stunning high-performance automobile beyond compare for a small, but loyal fan base," says Ola Kllenius, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. The intelligent lightweight design of the body shell also contributes to the reduction of fuel consumption. A key element in the improved fuel efficiency is the result of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7-Speed transmission, the ECO stop/start function, and improvements to the internal efficiency of the engine and alternator management. Despite a considerable improvement in fuel economy, the peak output of the AMG 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine is up from 604 hp to 621 hp. The maximum torque stands at a mighty 738 lb-ft.

his unparalleled output provides amazing propulsion for the new SL65 AMG acceleration from 0 to 60 mph takes 3.9 seconds. Top speed in the U.S. market stands at 186 mph. The key attributes of the AMG biturbo twelve-cylinder include its heart stopping acceleration, and seamless power delivery combined with a distinctive AMG V12 soundtrack. The SL65 AMG is presented for the first time with the new AMG "face". The two dominant visual elements - the grille and the lower air inlet remain, but have been reinterpreted to give them a more distinctively dynamic and premium look. The central styling feature is the new twin-blade grille finished in high-gloss chrome. The Mercedes star is mounted on two bladelike fins with aerofoil profiles. The stronger arrow-form of the grille optimizes the vehicle's longitudinal proportions, adding even more visual emphasis to the aerodynamic, minimalist design. The sixth generation of the SL offers a space-saving electro-hydraulic retractable hard-top that converts the SL65 AMG from a roadster to a coupe in less than 20 seconds. In contrast to the previous model, the new SL comes with the unique MAGIC SKY CONTROL. Its transparency can be switched from light to dark at the touch of a button. The stylized "A" that is a hallmark of AMG vehicles is retained beneath the twin-blade grille. Along the lower edge of the air intake is a slit beneath a fine black fin for optimum airflow to the cooling modules a perfect combination of design and high technology. The lower horizontal bar on the front skirt is finished in high-gloss chrome and is lent significant visual depth by the slit above it, creating a premium visual accent. The twinblade grille and lower horizontal element are two corresponding design features that emphasize the new AMG brand "face" this look will be further developed in forthcoming AMG models, increasing even more the visual recognition of the AMG performance brand. The top-of-the-range model is distinguished from the SL63 AMG by carefully placed applications in high-gloss chrome as well as the twin-blade grille and the lower horizontal bar on the AMG front skirt, the bezels in the AMG-specific LED daytime running lights, the side fins on the fenders and fins on the hood all have the same surface finNot just the inner attributes of this new AMG 6.0-liter V12 biturbo are stunning; along with its inspiring sexiness of the SL. With great power comes great responsibility Mercedes-AMG has come to mate an exceptional pair of characteristics that delivers on all levels.

Joshua McKinleyFashion Designer Emphasizes Fun in FashionBy Gina Battle

"Confidence is an article of clothing, and without that nothing is going to look right"When you think of Macys, you think fashionable, high-quality retail giant. When you think of Joshua McKinley 26, fashion designer, reality star and runner-up of Project Runway Season 9, you think uniquely fun fashion. And when the two collaborated at Macys in Naples Coastland Center Mall, on March 24, for the 5th Annual Find Your Magic Macys event, it ignited a fresh, provocative and innovative pairing certain to have a longstanding relationship. I think theyre a great brand with a strong presence in the industry. I think theyre wonderful. Joshua said. Macys produced a spectacular fashion show incorporating the unique perspective from the Fashion Week NYC designer. This had the audience of loyal customers exhilarated with anticipation of meeting McKinley and to see whats trending for this season. Consumers were offered an amazing chance to interact on the stage as part of the reality-style take on the show that made Joshua a star. Contestants were asked to pick the best outfit from a rack of clothing to best suit a person perhaps going to a beach wedding of her friend or to a garden tea party. The audience participation was as much a crucial contribution to the success of the event and was a fun
