Focus On Youth 2013 Oath
As a Focus On Youth leader, I pledge to
always be honest with other people and to myself.
I will continue to put my best foot forward,
be a team player,
and respectful.
I promise to be open minded, positive,
energetic and dedicated to this leadership
experience.
I promise to Learn,
I promise to Lead,
I promise to Succeed.
As I....Focus On Youth!
Focus On Youth
Faith is to have the eyes of Jesus, to see people as God sees them;
To see people with LOVE
Not to judge or criticize, but just to see what is most beautiful in
them and help reveal that BEAUTY to them.

Focus on Youth 2013
Highlights · 261 high school students were hired to
participate in a leadership program.
· 216 students worked as camp counsellors
with various organizations for six weeks.
· 37 students were hired to perform custodial work in schools during the summer program for a period of seven weeks.
· For the first year we hired a new media team (8 students) to document the Focus on Youth program in action. They visited sites, made presentations, and wrote blog post to capture the Focus on Youth experience.
· School space was offered to 85 community groups.
· Not-for-profit organizations delivered summer activities to youth all ages.
· The Focus On Youth program helps to develop students’ skills and keeps them safe during the summer months.
Thank You! This year, the TCDSB's Focus on Youth program celebrates its 7th year of service to students and the community. The program has solidified its presence as part of our Board’s multi-year strategic plan to better develop our school community. The program has matured tremendously and this year, various procedures were put in place to allow more students to apply. To make applications more accessible, an online application process was introduced. Also, an employment carousel was implemented to better assess the aptitude of the students hired. We strengthened our training by adding a financial literacy component, training with their individual community organization placements as well as numerous workshops on how to deal with situations surrounding diversity and stereotype just to name a few. Along with gaining valuable work experience, the program has allowed over two hundred and sixty students the opportunity to earn a leadership and Coop credit (216 recreational leaders, 37 custodial staff and 8 media team members) This has truly been a remarkable year; we would like to thank the Ministry of Education for funding the Focus on Youth program and their continued support for our students. We would like to thank our newly appointed Director of Education, Angela Gauthier for her continued support of the program. To the community organizations, the program is not possible .without your mentorship and commitment, so for that we are extremely grateful. Thank you to all the other TCDSB staff who support and assist with the program: Human Resources, Printing Services, Community Use of Schools department, Leadership Teachers, Co-op Teachers, Continuing Education, Health and Safety, Operations & Facilities. We plan to carry on the many successes of the program by continuing to improve the quality of services we provide to our students and community organizations. We would like to extend a very special thank you to Ashisha Persaud for her years of service and dedication to the Focus on Youth program. She has worked with the program since its inception and has been a mainstay ever since. We thank you for sharing your wisdom and passion for the program and wish you best of luck with your future endeavours. Finally we would like to thank you, the Focus on Youth students who acted as leaders, advocates, mentors, change agents in whichever capacity you worked this summer. I trust that the training and experience will better prepare you for your next future challenges. It is important to never forget the path to success and always remember “the Journey Never Ends!” Thank you! Andre Fullerton Focus on Youth, Coordinator/Manager of Outreach

have been dedicated to monitoring
and working with the student
employees throughout the program.
They have been a great support
system for the students and have done
an amazing job administering the
credit courses. They spend their
summer travelling to all ends of the
city in order to help our student
employees and keep us up to date
with all organizations. We thank you
