Although people of any gender and sexual

orientation can be either victims or

victimizers of abuse and coercive control, I’m

using pronouns that describe the most

common situation here: of a straight,

cisgender man abusing a straight, cisgender woman.

One of the biggest tricks we play on ourselves is to convince

ourselves that the way to win is to exert more power; exert more will;

do it on our own. But sometimes the only way is to admit defeat and

to get the help we need.
