Super Fast Folders!

After we have finished our milk, the cartons must be folded a certain way to

make them easier to recycle. (When we fold them right, we can fit triple the amount into the

recycling containers!)

We held a school-wide competition to find out who can fold milk cartons the fastest…

The finalists competed in assembly last week.

The fastest girl was Kyla Dorne, who took just 7 seconds to fold the carton, but even faster was

Taydon Puru, who took just 6 seconds! Well done to all the finalists.

Did you know: When they leave our school, the used cartons of milk are recycled and made into roof tiles and

furniture!

Winners of the colouring

completion were Camden Wells and

Jarla Ansley. Highly commended were Chloe Johns and Holley Robinson.

Kia ora nga whanau o Puketapu,

It was awesome to host the Connected Learning Advisory (CLA) day at Puketapu

last week. We had some of the best educational minds from around the motu in

our kura. Many of our guests hadn’t been to Puketapu before and they all

commented what a great school… and what great student caterers too!

Tomorrow we are also hosting a big name in education circles - Nathan Mikaere

Wallis. If you are able to, please do come along to listen to him speak. We as educators are looking forward to

listening and learning from his korero and implementing it into our teaching practice. There are many learning

challenges that our students face in the classroom and socially in the playground. Nathan’s messages will help us

grow our professional capacity and capabilities to deal with such challenges.

Thank you to all the families that have introduced themselves to me over the past six weeks. I have really appreciated

seeing you face to face and hearing about your students experiences at

Puketapu School. We are looking forward to seeing you at our School

X-Country.

Friday is Cross Country Day! We have new courses and a new format: Morning tea will be at the earlier time of 10:00-10:20. First racing starts at 10:30am, starting with the 5 year olds and going up in age order. 11-13 year olds will be after lunch, starting at 1.30pm. The new course for juniors stays on school grounds while the seniors go on a longer, 3km track further afield, watched over by marshalls. All races start and finish in the same place and there is plenty of viewing room space for parents, whanau and supporters. Come along and cheer on your runners! Bring a picnic and join us for lunch. Tamariki: Make sure you dress up in your whanau group colours! Every runner gets house points. Also, don’t forget to keep working on sponsorship - you have a few more days to get as many sponsors as you can - until Thursday 8 September.

Don’t forget...

Congratulations to Room 12 who won a class prize at the

Methanex Maths Spectacular. They constructed a

spectacular creation of

coloured cubes with a very

mathematical pattern.

Starting with one cube and

following a crystalline

pattern to cover layer by

layer, the class had to

predict how many cubes

they would need for each

layer - 129 cubes had to be

cut, folded and added to

the crystal. They won $120

for their efforts!

Be safe with BMX

After a nasty mishap at the BMX track at the weekend, we need

to remind all riders to take care when riding the track. Ride to

your ability, wear appropriate gear (a helmet is a must!) and

follow the safety rules. It’s a great track, but it must be

respected.

Cleaner Wanted: 2 hours per week at ICL offices. Phone or text Sammi-Jo 027 4601 558 for more details.

After School Art Classes: No class this week or next week. Next art class will be Thursday 15 September.
