English TranslationO G-d, full of mercy, who dwells on high,

grant everlasting peace on the wings of Your

Divine Presence, in the lofty levels of the holy and

the pure ones, who shine like the glow of the

firmament, for the soul of ____________________

who has gone on to his/her eternal home.

Without making a vow, I will contribute

to charity in remembrance of his/her soul.

May his/her resting place be in the Garden of Eden.

Oh, Master of Mercy, shelter the soul of

Yizkor evokes in every one of us the strongest kind of emotion. The memory of parents and loved ones, with whom we shared our joys and our sorrows, is at one and the same time painful and consoling. But neither pain nor consolation marks the purpose of this critically important aspect of our worship.

We remember in order that we might measure our lives by the standards of those whose ideals and whose acts of love and sacrifice have helped to mold our personalities.

We remember that we might rededicate ourselves to the values which they taught us.

We remember as a symbol of our love and respect for them and, in so doing, they live through us and continue to exert a significant influence upon us. Yizkor is a service for all of us — not just those whose loved ones have passed away. It is a beautiful service of respect and introspection, and in sharing it, we find ourselves drawn closer together as a unique family known as Am-Yisrael — the Jewish People.
