Graphic Narrative Folktale: This is a traditional story that can be passed down through the ages and can be told slightly differently. Examples include English Folktales such as Jack and the beanstalk as well as the 3 little pigs. Fairy tale: These kinds of stories start with ‘Once upon a time’ Examples of those kinds of stories are Cinderella and Snow white. These Books are often intended for younger children as they are very simplistic and contain fantasy characters Fable: These are similar to Fairy tales as they contain fictional characters such as animals and the story always ends in a moral lesson. An example of a fable is from Aesop, The Ant and the grasshopper. Graphic Novels: These are books made up of comics. Examples of popular Graphic Novels include Batman the dark knight returns, Sin city and V for Vendetta. Comic Strip: This is a sequence of drawings often to form a narrative. With the text that is used in balloons. These were originally made for newspapers however now used in Comic books. Examples include the Beano and dandy as well as Spiderman and other super heroes. Children’s books: These are simplistic books designed to help children first start reading, often mainly images rather than text and the same colours used in each one. Examples of different children’s books are Picture books, first books and concept books. Books
