Follower Children’s Picture Book

Page 2: Follower Presentation

“The combination of text and pictures creates a mystical “otherworld.”

The vibrant imaginative illustrations convey a sense of mystery which

matches the text. The whole picture book creates a sense of wonder.”

- Liz Weir, international storyteller and author.

Plans for development• Illustrations and story

• Irish language version

• School Illustration Workshops

• Series of stories

• Children’s book application

“The artwork is beautiful and the story simple and

reflective. If you're interested in an Irish language

version that could be arranged easily enough...the

story has a very old feel to it and reminds me of the old

stories of the slua sí or fairy host riding out on their

horses.”

- Deaglan O'Doibhlin, Irish Language Development Officer,

Magherafelt

Page 9: Follower Presentation

The Competition• Almost all the books are of historical value, or

adult literature.

• There are very few children’s picture books

that have been written and illustrated with The

Glens folklore in mind.

• None have been written about Glenariffe or

the area around home here specifically.

• Almost all have a traditional type of illustration.

How much?• Average selling price across the illustrated book

category currently stands at £13.26

• Single unit price of £9 to add markup thereafter.

• This in turn would yield an income of £4,500, £2,200 of

this will cover the first print run and a net profit of

£2,300 which would cover funding of the next print run

of 500.

• With a single unit price dropping to £7 on second print

run.

Page 11: Follower Presentation

How much continued• A markup of £3 by a retailer on a single unit will

yield a profit of £1,500 on a print run of 500.

• A larger print run will also provide a smaller unit

cost.

• Funding of £2,200 to print the first 500 copies is

needed.

• Further sales will also allow for some profit for

future development

Change the world • New story with a contemporary illustration style.

• Illustration Workshops with schools in local areas,

promote interest in visual arts and culture at a young

age.

• There is a gap in the market for a local children’s

book inspired by the specific area of Glenariffe as it

has not yet been done before.

• It will help promote tourism within this area.
