Skilling Academy in Alliance with Tamara Hospitalityfor Indian Youth with Ambitions

Overview

• SAATHIYA, a Shibulal Family Philanthropic Initiative by Advaith Foundation, intends to provide vocational training support in Food and Beverage Services to underprivilege youth who aspire to make a career in Hospitality Operations.

• Born out of conviction that quality education is the cornerstone of all developmental progress in society, Advaith Foundation was formed to promote philanthropic ventures in the field of education and research. Advaith Foundation runs numerous programs for under privilege kids (e.g. Ankur, Vidyadhan, Vidya Rakshak) to support them through various stages of our formal education system. One important segment which is focused on Youth is around Skill Development. With the introduction of SAATHIYA (The Hospitality Skilling Academy), AdvaithFoundation intends to provide vocational training support for under privilege youth who aspire to make a career in Hospitality Operations.

• Through a thoughtfully designed and industry aligned Skilling program, the academy intends to provide Skilling opportunities to aspiring men and women to gain the expertise in hospitality operations which would enable them to become employable and earn higher salaries while progressing in their career.

Program Scope & VisionScope

•The scope of the program includes conducting Short Term Training for Entry Level Profession in Hospitality Operations. Preference would be given to candidates belonging to low income families.

Scope for 1st Batch

• Scope for the first batch (planned to start in Jan/Feb 2019) is F&B Service leading to F&B Steward role in leading Hotels and Resorts. We are currently looking for students who are interested in pursuing a career in Food and Beverage Services.

Scope for Future Batches• Future batches would be

planned for F&B Production (Kitchen), Housekeeping and Front Desk Operations as well.

Overview of Skilling Program @ SAATHIYA

Skilling Program Duration

• F&B Service is a residential program. Overall program duration for F&B Service course is 26 weeks.

• Trainees will be expected to follow a well-defined schedule that would require them to be engaged in classroom training, practicals and various other fun-filled activity based assignments from morning till late evening every week-day. Six day a week schedule will be followed with Sunday being a weekly off.

• Following slides provides further details around how these 26 weeks will be organized.

Cost of Joining the Program

• All the selected students will be provided a scholarship that will cover following expenses which makes the program virtually free of cost.

Tuition Fee – Tuition fee will be waived for all selected studentsBoarding – Hostel Accommodation will be provided Food – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner (all days of the week)Stationary – Course material and stationary will be provided

Cost of Joining the Program

• Following investments need to be made by the candidatesCommitment Contribution – Students must be committed to attend and

complete the Skilling program to reap it’s benefits. Towards this, they will be requested to make a one-time contribution of 1000 Rs once they qualify and register for the program. Post successful completion of the program, students will be refunded the Commitment Contribution back to them.

• Following expenses will not be coveredOPE – Any out of pocket expense during the training. No stipend will be

paid during the training. OPE – Any out of pocket expense during On the Job Training (OJT).

• Students will be required to do On the Job Training for 12 weeks

starting week 14 of the program. Students will have to appear for

interview and qualify for On the Job training assignments.

• Academy will arrange for potential employers (Hotels and Resorts)

to come to the academy and interview the students for On the Job

Training assignment.

• During the OJT, employers will pay stipend as per their

organizational policies

Location of the Academy

• The first batch of SAATHIYA will undergo Skilling Program at Bidadi near Bangalore.

• Program will commence in last week of Jan or first week of Feb. Exact program commencement date will be announced on 19th Jan 2019 post completion of pan India mobilization.

• Students will have to report at the Skilling Venue at least a day prior to the program commencement date.

• Students who are 12th pass (in state or central board) and those who have

secured 50% marks in English language.

� Candidate must be willing to take up a job in Food and Beverage Services

� Candidate must be disciplined, good mannered and must make sincere

attempts for successful completion of the course

Food & Beverage Service Steward

•The Food and Beverage (F&B) industry is one of the highest paid industries in the hospitality service sector. Food and Beverage industry has been growing well and providing large opportunities to professionals in this field. One can start his career in F&B as Steward and with hard work and commitment, he/she can move up to become Captain, Senior Captain and F&B Service Manager.

•A Steward is responsible for serving Food and Beverages in a restaurant, in room dining and banquet functions, efficiently and in a courteous manner. The role involves serving food and beverages to guests of the hotel, restaurant or banquet function. It entails greeting and seating of guests, taking down their orders, providing them with requisite tableware, food & beverage items and then clearing used dishes and settling the customer’s accounts as per company’s policy.

•The Steward is the primary point of contact between the customers and the hotel/restaurant. He plays an important role in providing quality customer service. Frequently Asked QuestionsQ. Would SAATHIYA pay for my travel from my town to Bangalore for attending the Program?A. SAATHIYA would reimburse the travel fare to Bangalore at actuals (capped at 1,500 Rs)

Q. What do I need to pay to attend this program?A. SAATHIYA provides a scholarship which will cover for your tuition, boarding and lodging, books and stationary, assessment and certification and uniforms. You only have to spend for any personal expenses that you choose to make for yourself during the program.

Q. What happens if I do not get any On The Job Training assignment after my 3 month training?A. SAATHIYA would make all efforts to help all students get OJT assignments.

Q. Does the SAATHIYA Skilling Program assure a job after 26 weeks of training?A. While SAATHIYA does not assure a job as job placement also depends on individual’s performance

and prevailing market environment, we feel highly confident that each student would be able to secure a job as the demand in Food and Beverage Service is very high and the high quality this program offers, will ensure our students become a preferred choice for all employers.

Q. I have completed 11th standard and have secured only 45% marks in English? Can I apply?A. If you have the will to work hard and sincere about making a career in Hospitality Operations, we can review selective students and approve their application on exception basis.

Frequently Asked QuestionsQ. What is Week Zero?A. Week ZERO is designed to ensure students get a good exposure to the job and career prospects they

would have as Food and Beverage Steward. This would help student align their goals and work on specific focus areas during the 26 week training program.

Q. Other Skilling programs that my friends/relatives have attended are not for such long duration. Their daily schedule is also 9 am to 5 pm only. What do we need to put in so many hours for this programA. SAATHIYA is designed not only to enable youth get a job but to help transform their lives by enabling them to grow in their career. Hard work is the only way to prepare oneself for successfully dealing with challenges that need to be overcome to grow in a Hospitality career for higher designations and better salaries.

Q. What Certificate will be issued on completion of training program?A. SAATHIYA has partnered with an independent Assessment Partner who will assess the students and provide certification on successfully completing the assessment. Our Assessment Partner is a reputed organization in the industry and is an empanelled assessment body with Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council which is promoted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) with inclusive representation of the Government, Industry and Industry Associations across India.

Frequently Asked QuestionsQ. If my name is announced in the shortlist today, does that mean I can come to Bangalore to attend the Skilling program?A. Names which we will announce today are only the shortlisted ones and have moved to next stage for final

selection. Students all over India are applying for this program. Your final selection will depend on your rank in the overall list which will be announced on 19th Jan 2019. Program Co-Ordinator will contact you on Jan 19th to inform you about your final selection. If you are selected in the shortlist today but do not get selected in the final list, you can still be considered for next batch of F&B Service Program which will start in May 2019.
