Friday April 1 USA – DepartureDepart from Los Angeles en route to Istanbul, Turkey,

Saturday April 2 Istanbul – ArrivalArrive at the Istanbul Ataturk Airport to meet the guide in the

arrivals hall. Transfer to the hotel off Taksim Square, the bustling heart of modern Istanbul. Dinner and Overnight in Istanbul are at the Larespark Hotel. Sunday April 3 Istanbul

After enjoying a Turkish breakfast, begin touring of the historical highlights of Istan-bul. Stroll through Hippodrome Square, the former sporting and social center of Constan-tinople which hosted chariot races during the Roman period. Afterwards, visit the domed masterpiece of Hagia Sophia, which served as an orthodox patriarchal basilica, an Ottoman imperial mosque, and is cur-rently a secular museum, which was commissioned by Byzantine Emperor Justinian in the 6th century. Continue to the Church of Saint Saviour in Chora (Kariye Camii), an exquisite example of Byzantine architecture embellished with 13th century frescoes and gold-gilded mosaics. Explore Eminönü’s Spice Bazaar. This large covered market has remained the city’s center for spice trade since its creation in the 17th century. Visit the beautiful Rustem Pasha Mosque, designed by the extraordinarily prolific Ottoman imperial architect, Mimar Sinan and features the most lavish use of Iznik tiles in the city. Dinner and overnight at the Larkspark Hotel in Istanbul. Monday April 4 Istanbul / Nicea / Bursa

This morning depart Istanbul bound for Bursa, the first capital of the Ottoman Empire. En route, stop in Iznik, formerly known as Nicea, the important Roman and Byzantine town where the First Council of Nicea was held during the reign of Constantine in 325 AD. In Bursa, drive to the city’s center and visit the Great Mosque (Ulu Cami). An excellent example of early Seljuk Architecture, this mosque houses a forest of large square columns supporting a cloud of arches and domes. Visit the Green Mosque (Yeşil Cami), a Seljuk architectural gem which is entered through a richly carved marble portal. Walk behind the mosque to visit the Green Tomb (Yeşil Türbe), the mausoleum of Sultan Mehmed I Celebi, standing above the rest of the complex. Visit the Covered Market (Kapalı Çarşı), popularly known as the Silk Market. Wander the narrow streets lined with dozens of hans (caravanserais), old Ot-toman workshop-and-warehouse complexes, which are arranged around a courtyard and sealed by massive armored doors. Din-ner and overnight in Bursa at the Almira Hotel.Tuesday April 5 Bursa / Troy / Canakkale

Drive to Canakkale to explore Troy, the legendary site of the Trojan War on which Homer based the Iliad. Founded 5,000 years ago, Troy became a powerful city through its control of the Darda-nelles, and remained so until the Roman era. Dinner and overnight in Canakkale at the Kolin Hotel. Wednesday April 6 Canakkale / Pergamum / Kozak / Izmir

Travel to the town of Bergama to visit Pergamum, one of the most powerful cities in the ancient world. Although the city benefited from immense wealth, in the Book of Revelation the risen Christ instructs John to convey a message to the people of Pergamum, the site of “Satan’s throne,” that they needed to repent (Rev 2:13–16). Tour the Acropolis sitting atop a 1,000 foot windswept mountain. Enjoy spectacular views of the neighbor-ing modern towns, the azure waters of the Aegean, and the ruins of Pergamum which cascade down the mountain side from the ancient city center. Explore the Temple of Trajan, the Temple of Athena and the Altar of Zeus. Unfortunately, little is left of the Altar of Zeus which was once among the grandest monuments of the ancient world. Every stone of the structure, including its 400-foot long frieze depicting the battle of the gods and giants, was shipped off to Berlin by German Archaeologists leaving only the

altar’s foundation at the original site. Much more remains of the Great Theatre, among the steep-est of its kind and an acoustic phenomenon. This theatre could entertain up to 10,000 specta-tors. Nearby are the remains of the famous Library of Pergamum which housed approximately 200,000 scrolls. The library’s collection even exceeded that of the great library of Alexandria before Mark Anthony gave it to Cleopatra as a wedding gift. Descend to a village resting in the lush, verdant hills of the Kozak highlands. The villagers maintain a traditıonal tribal Turkish culture, living off of the land, depending on pine nut trees, crops, and livestock as their source of income. Continue to the thriving seaport of Izmir, Turkey’s third largest city. Dinner and overnight at the Mövenpick Hotel in Izmir. Thursday April 7 Izmir / Sardis / Pamukkale

Travel to Sart this morning to explore Sardis, a powerful, ancient city located along an important highway on the fertile plain of Hermus (Geldiz River). Though Sardis was a strong and wealthy city with a reputation for being alive, God pronounced it dead (Rev. 3:1-6). Explore the white marble royal way, the mas-sive Temple of Artemis, the large gymnasium, and the famous synagogue. Annual archaeological expeditions sponsored by Harvard and Cornell Universities have unearthed over eighty Greek and seven Hebrew inscriptions and numerous mosaic floors revealing this synagogue as one of the most significant synagogues of antiquity. Continue to Pamukkale (Cotton Castle), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to experience the thermal wa-ters which flow down the hilltop’s unique white travertine terraces. Visit the archeological remains of Hierapolis, a significant site of early Christianity thanks to Paul’s missionary efforts here (Colos-sians 4:13). Because the city sits atop the travertine cascades of Pamukkale, Hierapolis became a healing center using the thermal pools to treat various ailments. Stroll among the ruins of well-preserved Roman structures like the town theatre and the Temple of Apollo. Continue to the Doğa Thermal Hotel & Spa to enjoy the thermal baths and spa services, including dinner and overnight accommodations. Friday April 8 Pamukkale / Cooking Class / St. John’s Basilica / Ephesus / Kusadasi

Arrive in Selcuk for a cook-ing class in a local restaurant where we help the chef prepare our lunch, while learning se-crets of Turkish cuisine to take back home. After lunch, see the ruins of St. John’s Basilica. Con-structed by Justinian I in the 6th century, this basilica stands over the traditional burial site of John the Apostle. Continue to Ephesus, one of the most well-preserved archaeological sites in all of Turkey. Originally an ancient Greek Ionic city built in the 10th century B.C., Ephesus grew to become the largest metropolis and capital of the Roman province of Asia Minor. This political influence and the city’s large Jewish com-munity attracted the attention of the apostles, including Paul and John. Walk on the Marble Road to see numerous historically rich sites including the Fountain of Trajan and the Temple of Hadrian. See the Library of Celsus, forming one side of the site’s most impressive square. Sit in the largest surviving theatre from the Roman period. This massive theatre, capable of entertaining up to 25,000 spectators, was the scene of an uprising provoked by a merchant named Demetrius against Paul and his teachings (Acts 19:23). Drive to Kusadasi, a beautiful resort town on the Aegean coast for dinner and overnight at the Pine Bay Resort Hotel.Saturday April 9 Kusadasi / Cruise – Patmos

Drive to the Kusadasi pier to embark on the cruise ship. Sail to the idyllic Greek Island of Patmos to see where the Apostle John wrote the book of Revelation. See the island’s volcanic terrain and beautiful bays on the way to the Monastery of the Apostle John and the Cave of the Apocalypse. Dinner and overnight are aboard the ship.

morning. Crete is the larg-est island in Greece. Enjoy an excursion to the ancient Minoan civilization to visit Knossos Palace and the Mu-seum of Heraklion. Continue to the colorful volcanic island of Santorini. Ride up the steep hill to the village by donkey or by cable car. Dinner and overnight aboard the ship. Monday April 11 Athens / Corinth / Kavala

Arrive at Athens, disembark the ship and board the motor coach for Corinth where the Apostle Paul lived and preached for a time. See the Archeological Museum, the temples and more. This is where Paul established the first church made up entirely of Gentiles. Stop to visit the two famous ancient ports of Cenchrean and the Corinth Canal on the way back to the Athens airport to fly to Kavala. Transfer from the airport to the Lucy Hotel for dinner and overnight. Tuesday April 12 Kavala / Philippi / Thessaloniki / Veria

After breakfast, visit the ancient site of Neapolis and see the harbor where Paul first arrived in Greece. Follow the ancient highway of Via Ignatia to reach Philippi. This archeological site is named after Philip II of Macedonia, and was the location of Paul’s first Christian converts on European soil. See the old section of the Via Ignatia, Paul’s prison, and the archeological museum, and the home of Lydia. Drive to Thessaloniki to visit the churches of St. Sophia and St. Dimitrius, see the White Tower, and the Arch of Galerius. Continue to Veria for dinner and overnight at the Aiges Melathron Hotel.

Wednesday April 13 Veria / Athens Paul and Silas preached in

Berea (Veria) where the Gos-pel was well received. How-ever, Jews from Thessalonki arrived to agitate and turn the populace against them. The new converts in the city sent Paul to the coast transferring him safely to Athens (Acts 17:10–15). See the monument built to the Apostle Paul at the southern part of the city and the Bema seat. Continue to Athens with a stop at Themopyles. Dinner and overnight in Athens at the Titania Hotel. Thursday April 14 Athens

Spend the entire day in Athens beginning at its famous Acrop-olis to visit the Parthenon, the Areopagus, and Mars Hill where the Apostle Paul preached his sermon in Athens.
