※Cited from respective reports

Our company has been in the automobile related business for 26 years. We paint and assemble pressed and molded parts and sell them to auto parts makers.Since 1997, we have been engaged with development in the medical equipment field and currently we have a dental clinic related products in 27 categories. In this business meeting event, the matching selections were appropriate and we were able to see eye to eye during the meetings, making them very satisfactory. We were able to meet companies and become partners for each other so we look forward to future developments. In the meeting with a manufacturer of implant related parts that has yet to develop business in Thailand, we discussed selling their products to our customers. I feel that it would only take a few more meetings to strike a successful deal. I had meaningful conversations with all of the companies I met, so it was a wonderful business meeting event.

MALAYSIA-JAPAN CEO Network Enhancing ProjectWe are a manufacture of metal molding for plastic products with 60 years of experience in injection molding of high precision engineered plastic parts. We already have business history with Japanese companies for auto-parts, cameras, and medical sectors, and I joined this program with high hopes to collaborate with more sectors. We met with 4 companies and they entailed exchange of corporate information, but we were able to increase our interest level about each other. I know that although the reaction might not be optimal on the spot, specific conversations could be held over time, so I concentrated on communicating the merits of manufacturing in Malaysia such as saving costs. I am truly grateful for this platform of “encounter” which will lead to future business.

The CEO Network Enhancing Project is considered a unique and highly effective program. I attended the 2016 program, and at this event, we heard success stories from medical device trading companies and construction companies that have developed large businesses through technology tie-ups and expanding their sales channels.Currently, in Myanmar, the newly established SME Development Agency particularly focuses on supporting local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). 60% of these SMEs are in the food-processing industry. On the other hand, food-related products form a large proportion of imports. We believe that the domestic industry will become stronger through the introduction of processing machinery and technologies to improve production efficiency and product quality. Besides face-to-face meetings, we plan to use J-GoodTech to work with more Japanese companies and aggressively promote it.

The Ministry of Industry in Indonesia supports the overseas expansion of exceptional small and medium-sized companies in the country while collaborating with government-affiliated agencies in various countries. Especially, at the CEO Business Meetings implemented by SME SUPPORT JAPAN, one-on-one business talks are arranged through prior matching. Not only can companies effectively hold business meetings with superior small and medium-sized Japanese companies, but participants could feel that the discussions are productive because they can focus on talks through the presence of an interpreter at each table.Indonesia continues to achieve high economic growth, and that growth is supported by the manufacturing industry. Even compared to other ASEAN countries, the manufacturing industry’ s GDP contribution is remarkably high, and manufacturing industry will unquestionably continue to lead our country’ s economy. In April 2018, the Ministry of Industry was central to drawing up and announcing the roadmap called “Making Indonesia 4.0” toward introducing “Industry 4.0.” Within this, automobiles, electronics, food and beverages, textiles and clothing, and chemical products are established as the 5 priority sectors. In addition to being sectors of growth, these are areas in which Japanese small and medium-sized companies excel, and we are confident that we can build WIN-WIN relationships through collaboration with small and medium-sized companies in Indonesia. We anticipate that the CEO Business Meetings will continue to provide opportunities to discover suitable business partners in the future.

Thailand-JAPAN CEO Network Enhancing Project We specialize in manufacturing of bolts and nuts by cold / hot casting technology. Jigs and tools are also in-house made, and we meet customer needs with a wide selection of products. There are many Japanese companies in Thailand, accounting for 70% of our clients. Among the five companies we met in Fukuoka and Okayama, we felt collaborative possibilities with three companies, so we exchanged drawings and they will be visiting our factory in Thailand. I had the experience of studying abroad in Japan and speak Japanese, so I am the contact person for our company. There are many companies in Thailand without Japanese language capabilities, but at the CEO Network Enhancing Project, sponsored by SME SUPPORT JAPAN, interpreters were assigned to every Thailand company that needed them, and in addition, advisors with expert knowledge accompanied the meetings to provide assistance to communication which I believe adds comfort heading into the business meetings.I gained an invaluable opportunity to “meet” many companies so it was truly a meaningful business matching event.

Since we can directly meet and talk with managers of Japanese companies, their and our seriousness

and enthusiasm are conveyed and understood on the spot, which is good. There was an interpreter at the

meetings, so we did not have to worry about language problems. In just two days, participants

can meet many Japanese companies that have excellent technology and products.

This is a very precious opportunity, we think.

What benefits do you feel the CEO Business Meetings offer?

─ Please tell us what prompted you to participate in the CEO Business Meetings.Of the 8 companies in the Dharma Group, our company is doing the precision machining business. We produce metal parts using precision cutting and machine processing technology. Our company primarily delivers our parts to two-wheeled vehicles manufacturers including all

Japanese-affiliated motorcycle manufacturing companies. We have already built trustful relationships with these Japanese-affiliated companies and would like to continue doing business together since we anticipate steady, long-term orders from them. However, a pressure for cost reduction is strong. Given this, to differentiate ourselves from our competitors and create a new primary source of revenue, we hope to have our own brand products in the future. For that purpose, we feel that cutting-edge technology from Japan is essential and decided to participate in the CEO Business Meetings held in Tokyo in October 2017 to search for a partner company for joint development and technical cooperation.

─ Did you meet companies you were looking for at the CEO Business Meetings? At the CEO Business Meetings, we held business talks with a total of 19 Japanese firms and were able to meet many companies. We feel it was a very beneficial opportunity to exchange information. We have especially sensed future prospect in I. Field Ltd., which has wonderful ideas and the development capacity to create new products. It

manufactures and sells fluid couplings that use one-of-a-kind technology to rotate 360°. While our company possesses significant production capacity cultivated through trade with Japanese-affiliated companies and connections in the local market which I. Field Ltd. does not have yet. On the other hand, I. Field Ltd. has high development capability and their own brand products. We felt that if we could provide what the other needs, we can build a business in a win-win relationship. In addition, we felt that our encounter at the CEO Business Meetings would lead to negotiations for joint development and technical cooperation. In the next month after the CEO Business Meetings, I. Field Ltd. had the chance to come to Indonesia. We had a meeting and concluded a memorandum of understanding (MOU; an agreement on a strategic partnership). In January 2018, we signed a licensing contract (technical cooperation) and from July that year we continued business activities while jointly conducting market research. We held discussions on more concrete cooperative steps, such as creating a plan to develop business in the future. Currently, we are moving ahead with preparations for production and sales in 2019.

─ The course of events from the Business Meetings to the licensing contract was extremely smooth. What kind of business plan are you considering? Well, perhaps due to the Japanese national character, people working at I. Field Ltd. is quick to respond, and we feel that keeping up with their working speed is important to do business with Japanese. In addition, the company has come to Indonesia numerous times,

and we felt that they are trying to understand Indonesian business practices and culture. Mutual understanding is very important, where trustful relationships are created. We would like to participate again if Business Meetings of this kind will be held. We hope to meet companies that have unique technology and want to expand business in Indonesia. For that reason, we hope to work with I. Field Ltd. and achieve solid performance.

In advance, we were informed of which Japanese companies we would meet. That was beneficial for preparing for business discussions. We were also

pleasantly surprised at the high quality of interpretation. We are grateful that our interpreter who helped us was

eager and actively promoted our company’s information. Furthermore, since Japanese companies started

discussions after having researched our company, we were able to have efficient discussions,

though the meeting time was limited to 30 minutes.

What benefits do you feel the CEO Business Meetings offer?

─ What prompted you to consider working with Japanese companies? The INTI POLYMETAL Group produces automotive press components. Our strength is the ability to handle stamping, coating, and assembly within the Group. Of those, our company is responsible for coating and surface treatment that processes a variety of surfaces using EDP, powder coating, and dip coating technology. The processed components are mainly delivered to Japanese-affiliated manufacturers. In 2001, we began working with Toyota Indonesia, and since then, we have conducted ongoing research on trade with Japanese companies. In addition, during visits to Japanese company plants, we witnessed Japan’s advanced technology and good manners among Japanese people, and we strongly felt that we would like to incorporate these outstanding Japanese aspects into our company. At such times, we received information on the CEO Business Meetings that allow us to directly talk with many Japanese companies. We immediately made the decision to participate. It was an invaluable opportunity, so we set about preparing thoroughly by creating pamphlets, preparing samples, and gathering information on

the Japanese companies we would hold meetings with.

─ Did you meet Japanese companies you were looking for at the CEO Business Meetings? At the CEO Business Meetings, we had business talks with a total of 14 Japanese companies.Among them was the automobile parts manufacturer, Hanya Seisakusho Co., Ltd., which is already in the Indonesian market. Its local subsidiary’s plant is close to our company, and we had a great conversation. Through speaking with the company representative, we found that its local subsidiary, PT HKB has welding and assembly facilities only and that the company is looking for a local partner company capable of stamping. We stressed that our company’s Group, PT. INTI POLYMETAL can support them. Our enthusiasm was conveyed to Mr. Hanya, President & CEO, with whom we had concrete discussions on an outsourcing contract. The next month after the Business Meetings, Mr. Hanya came to Indonesia and toured our plant. We also shared meals and deepened our exchange and friendship. This resulted in purchasing press components for

agricultural machinery after a short time. We have established a business model whereby press components processed by our company’s Group are assembled by PT HKB, which have been delivered to Japanese-affiliated manufacturers.

─ It seems that the business talks have proceeded very smoothly. In the course of business discussions, did you sense any difficulties about doing business with Japanese companies? In our experience, language inevitably became a barrier when interacting with overseas companies, and we felt the difficulty in communication. On that point, since an interpreter who understood terminology specific to manufacturing was present during the CEO Business Meetings, we were able to hold business talks with an easy mind.In addition, when doing business with any overseas company including Japanese companies, building a mutually trusting relationship is very important. Because many successful overseas companies participate in the CEO Business Meetings, we felt as if the Japanese companies started to talk with overseas companies with a sense of trust. In that regard, we

─ It has been 10 years since your company was established. Please tell us the main reasons for your growth that has built solid sales channels in Vietnam. Our company is primarily engaged in installation and service for hydraulic pressure equipment such as hydraulic pumps, hydraulic valves, and hydraulic cylinders used in the automotive, shipping, and electronics industries. We mainly handle hydraulic equipment imported from overseas. However, we do not simply install these products, but we have established a consulting team in our company that specializes in design and technology so that we can provide the best proposals to our customers. In addition, we collaborate with the nearby technical college to strive to continuously improve our specialized skills and shorten delivery times. These efforts have been appreciated by our customers, and we have grown to have 2 distributors in Hanoi, 3 in Ho Chi Minh, and 1 in Da Nang.We participated in the CEO Business Meetings because we believed we could boost our in-house expertise and set ourselves apart from competitors by partnering with Japanese companies that possess excellent products and technical strength.

I visited Japan in 2016 and saw with my own eyes the high level of technical capabilities of Japanese companies. Since then, I have wondered if there are something we can do in collaboration with Japanese companies. At the right time, through the Hanoi Supporting Industries Business Association (HANSIBA) we participate, we received information from the Vietnam Ministry of Planning and Investment Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) about the CEO Business

Meetings, and we immediately applied.

─ Did you meet companies you were looking for at the CEO Business Meetings? At the CEO Business Meetings, we were able to meet with 8 Japanese companies dealing in products our company wants and held productive business discussions. In particular, the talks with Takami Seiki Co., Ltd. were very fruitful. The company has succeeded in developing a groundbreaking product called the “De Co Valve” in the hydraulic equipment industry and has acquired patents in Japan, the USA, the UK, and Germany. Many Vietnamese companies including our company have trouble with hydraulic valves, but Takami Seiki’s products are of high quality compared to Western products. We believed that there would be undoubtedly needs for them in the Vietnamese market. At the Business Meetings, we discussed specific ways to collaborate in the future. Later, after communicating with them while receiving support from the Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, JAPAN (SME SUPPORT JAPAN), we agreed that our company will first respond to individual

sales according to each inquiry and conclude a distribution agreement after having good track records. We are also steadily moving forward in business talks with Horiuchi Machinery Co., Ltd., which manufactures and sells various hydraulic cylinders. We are interested in the “servo cylinders” developed by the company, which has integrated components such as pumps and valves. It is scheduled to visit our company in April this year to hold further concrete talks to conclude negotiations. Therefore, we feel that at the CEO Business Meetings, participants can have productive business discussions with many attractive companies.Naturally, our business practices differ

from Japanese companies and there is a language barrier, but the CEO Business Meetings sponsored by SME SUPPORT JAPAN provide interpreters for free, so we are able to thoroughly speak even about specific details. Since advisor support is also available, the business talks proceed even more smoothly. It is also very important that we receive information in advance about Japanese companies we would meet, enabling us to prepare for the talks. We would like to steadfastly move forward in business negotiations with the Japanese companies we met, and if we have another chance, we want to participate in the CEO Business Meetings again.

We can directly meet and talk about businesses with Japanese companies. We were able to know

details about products and business content individ-ually and felt it was a great opportunity for partici-pants to find matching companies on the spot. We felt reassured that experts were available at the

meeting and provided appropriate advice, so we were able to have discussions feeling

at ease.

More than anything, participants can meet and talk face-to-face with Japanese companies.

They can ask questions immediately on the spot and proceed discussions more smoothly. We were

motivated by feeling the enthusiasm of the Japanese company staff, which cannot be

grasped via email alone, and we had a valuable business meeting beneficial to

both of us.

What benefits do you feel the CEO Business Meetings offer?

─ Please tell us what prompted you to participate in the CEO Business Meetings. We often encounter problems in the course of doing business in Vietnam. One of those is that legal systems are underdeveloped. There is still ambiguity in agreements on Harmonized System (HS) codes, for example. On the other hand, Japan has clear criteria for everything and manufacturers must pass strict conditions. Japanese products are of high quality and free of defective goods. We trust Japanese products, so we have an interest in products from Japanese companies. We searched for opportunities to engage with Japanese companies and were informed of the CEO Business Meetings by the “Keieijuku” Business Course at the Vietnam-Japan Human Resources Cooperation Center (VJCC). We felt it was a chance to directly meet with Japanese companies. In addition, this fiscal year, our company has been moving forward with investment in a lost wax casting line, so we thought that we wanted to research the need for lost wax casting products in Japanese companies possessing advanced technological

capability. We decided to participate in the CEO Business Meetings held in July 2018.

─ What kind of companies did you meet at the CEO Business Meetings? At the CEO Business Meetings, not only were we able to grasp the need for lost wax casting products, but also we were able to meet many Japanese companies handling extremely interesting products. We felt the business meetings were advantageous

for our company. Specifically, we had a worthwhile meeting with Takami Seiki Co., Ltd. that manufactures a unique hydraulic valve called the “De Co Valve.”We have been using a hydraulic valve imported from a German manufacturer, but find it problematic because of unstable operation. We instinctively felt that our troubles would immediately be resolved with the wonderful product from Takami Seiki. We knew that many other Vietnamese

companies face the same issue and sensed the great potential that Takami Seiki’s hydraulic valve would have in the Vietnamese market. Luckily, our company has many outstanding technical experts, so we stressed our ability to provide a competent maintenance system in the Vietnamese market with their guidance and were able to hold business discussions. After exchanging emails following the Business Meetings, we were able to conclude an individual contract and agreed to gradually increase the volume of business while keeping an eye on performance.

─ What is the key factor to meet companies you were looking for? The key is to gather extensive information in advance. In addition to preparing required materials, business cards, and samples, we had thoroughly researched companies we planned to talk with. I recommend that people considering participating in the CEO Business Meetings collect as much information as possible beforehand. That will further clarify what your company is looking for, which will facilitate smooth business discussions.

Overall, it was such a very good program. The CEO Business Matching program was more than a place

of information exchange where I could meet with the Medical Associations, the Medical related institu-tions, and many more from other countries. I think

we can lead to business developments in the future. Most of all, this event was meaningful

because many delegated members attended.

What benefits do you feel the CEO Business Meetings offer?

─ What were your reasons for participating in the CEO Business Matching Event? And please let us know your current development from the event. I received information from the Royal Thai Embassy this time. As a matter of fact, I once participated in Thai Business Matching @MEDTEC Japan 2018 which was held in Tokyo in April last year. Currently, I also serve as a Chairman of Medical and Health Device Manufacturers Industry Club (MEDIC) Board: FTI in Thailand. Our company was focusing on manufacturing Orthopedic implants products such as Posterior Thoracolumbar Stabilization, Anterior Cervical Vertebra Stabilization and Thigh Bone Screw. However, we are now extremely interested in developing “Arthroplasty System”, which requires precision machining technology.

Therefore, one of the reasons for participating in the event was to look for potential Japanese partners for joint development. We strongly believe that overseas developments can gain opportunities for market growth and diversify, rather than developing and producing the products only for domestic market.

─ Each company comes up with an idea of overseas development in a variety of reasons. What are your important reasons? Our main reasons of overseas development are cost reduction of parts procurement and mass production, technology transfer from Japanese companies, and Biocompatibility Assessments of medical devices. Specifically, we are now having our product- tests at laboratories in Germany and Singapore because none are offering such services in Thailand. This time I also expected to find and receive information about those laboratories in Japan as well. Our market development strategy was to focus on exhibiting products at medical device-related trade shows, such as the Medical Trade Show in Singapore, Medical Devices Fair in Laos, Myanmar, Taiwan, Dubai, and Germany, for the last couple of years. Although we need to explore distribution channels in addition to exhibitions, but we are unable to

disclose the detailed plans at this moment. However, we strongly consider utilizing various kinds of marketing tools in the future. ─ How did you prepare yourself for business meeting after you applied for event participation?I did some researches on the potential partners from the JGT website and each company’s website itself for general information gathering. I gathered information such as company summaries, sample products, and delegation members for the meeting. For parts procurement, necessary technical information, product specifications, production capacity, and other related issues were gathered at in-house meeting to help business talk during my business trip to Japan. ─ How many companies are you keeping in touch with after the meeting event? We continue keeping in touch with three Japanese companies, of which we met two companies at the Thai Business Matching @MEDTEC Japan 2018 and the third company at the CEO Business Matching Event this year. Specifically, we met with Kida Valve Ball Co., Ltd. and Fujiflex Co., Ltd. last year and met with Minebea Mitsumi Inc. at the CEO Business Matching Event this year.

Kida Valve Ball is a stainless-steel valve ball manufacturing company that we have been keeping contact with, by exchanging “Thank You Messages” by email since we met. We visited each other company and did a factory tour; however, we haven’t talked about anything that leads to our benefits. After the session, I happened to visit Japan and inquired Kida Valve Ball Co. for a factory tour in Osaka. We received a warm welcome. Since then, Mr. Kida and I have spent sometimes together, exchanging various kind of information and point of views, through which I have realized that he is such a cooperative type of person with good personality. Afterwards I have been supported either on business or in private, and we have a good partnership. The company called Fujiflex from Fukushima Prefecture is another company that I met with at the Thai Business Matching @MEDTEC Japan 2018. We received the order for OEM product from Fujiflex after their factory visiting; and now that we are waiting for their product specification in order to step forward.I had a business discussion with Minebea

Mitsumi Inc. and learned from them about their plan of transferring “artificial joints” production from Japan to Thailand in August this year. I plan to visit their factory whenever available, accordingly. ─ What are the benefits of attending the CEO Business Matching Event? The whole event was well-organized, with excellent business communication techniques of “HO-REN-SO (a business word in Japan)” which extremely impressed me. However, negotiating with 11 companies in one day was too exhausting, though. The overall event seems to have turned out well for the time being. One thing that I noticed was that some companies we talked with were off target and very difficult to develop business with; thus, I would appreciate it if you could send those company profiles, meeting agenda, and related information before matching, so that probability of business success can be increased.I suggest that you provide a networking session after the Business Matching Event so that it may lead to further business opportunities.

─ Please tell us about the overview of your business. My father founded a textile manufacturing plant in 1975 and I took over his business. We currently manufacture and sell curtains, bed sheets, pillow cases, bed linen, table linen, cushion covers, table napkins, etc. We incorporate foreign tastes into Myanmar's traditional patterns, which designs are popular with foreigners and supported by the market.

─ What made you first consider expanding overseas? When my father ran his business, we only targeted the domestic market. Since then, many hotels have used the products I have worked on and now they are also being bought by foreigners. Because of such support from foreigners, we would like to accelerate our overseas development. With this in mind, we took the opportunity to take part in a business competition sponsored by the Magway Region of Myanmar and won the third place out of 160 companies. Thanks to this success, we received a recommendation from the Ministry of Industry and participated in last year’s CEO Network Enhancing Project.

─ How was the response at the project? Some companies had an interest in us. Especially by support of experts of SME SUPPORT JAPAN, we have been able to have smooth business transactions with WORLD INDUSTRY CO., LTD. and we have just delivered 1,000 samples of textile product to them. In addition, we felt that other industries, including “tatami mat (traditional Japanese-style mat using rice straw)” manufacturers and companies involved with hotel furnishings, have a strong interest in our textile products. This project offers an opportunity to reach out to many companies in a single day. We feel that this is an opportunity to have the greatest results in a limited time.

─ We are surprised to hear that trading started in about three months after the project. It was helpful that WORLD INDUSTRY CO., LTD. has already made inroads into Myanmar. More than that, after it requested us to provide samples, our speedy response had a great influence on this success, we think. We produced and delivered them within 10 days. We proposed two types of fabric - thick and thin - but,

as we realised that somewhere in the middle was required, we immediately made improvements, offered a new proposal and secured a deal. Securing trade with Japanese companies is thought as a good track record when approaching other customers.

─ So, has everything run smoothly? It would be great if that was the case but, to tell the truth, I was really hoping to sell women's shawls and bags. Previously, when I exhibited at the Myanmar Festival, a famous Japanese business woman bought

Galon Minn Nyi Naung Co., Ltd., founded in 1975, is an innovative company that manufactures and sells textile products, including bed sheets and women's handbags. Following a participation in the CEO Network Enhancing Project in November 2018, it began trading with Japanese companies just three months later, in January 2019. It plans further cooperation with Japanese companies and more overseas developments.

some of my products, so I had some confidence that this route would be successful. Unfortunately, I have found that people have a more interest in fabric itself rather than our products. We would like to have a great deal of trial and error to know what kind of products are appreciated by Japanese and other foreigners.

─ What is your opinion about Japanese companies?I have previously exhibited at conferences in other countries, but at that time, I only talked about the products in front of me and their prices and got no leads. In the case of Japanese companies, however, people don't just focus on whether our products are good or bad. Their negotiations include suggestions for

improvements. The negotiations are positive. Japanese people do not simply reject prices we offer, but they try to negotiate by asking questions such as 'How much would it cost if you change part of your products? I have learned a lot from such negotiations.

─ What do you expect from future CEO Network Enhancing Projects? We develop many different products, ranging from fashion items, like women's shawls and handbags, to bedsheets for the hotel industry. With industry-specific conferences, we can narrow down our products to introduce and it is easier to think about how to develop an efficient business. We hope to grow our business through collaborating with more Japanese companies.
