ON Rishi Panchami day, I am inspired to share the following. WE all have read about how Gajanan Maharaj gave darshan in the form of Vitthal to Bapuna Kale . Quite close to this incident is one below which goes to show the kind and benevolent nature of our Mauli. THE year was 1988-89. The occasion was the august arrival of the palanquin of Sadguru Gajanan maharaj having HIS "mukhavta"( silver mask) and "padukas" ( holy sandals). After moving through important places, it was to pass by the famous Bin khambi Ganesha mandir. A large no. of devotees had gathered to have darshan of the deity and the accompanying elephants, horses and the troupe. The people were just falling on one another and there was a lot of chaos and commotion, jostling and pushing to have 'darshan' from close quarters. It was just something short of a stampede. There was no way! I could have made it for darshan amidst such a mammoth crowd without getting bruised and hurt. I decided to await my turn and stood in one corner at some distance, hoping that I should get at least 2 minutes of darshan without hindrance in peace. I was very keen to place my head on HIS holy sandals. I was straining my neck from where I

stood and there were quite a few like me standing along side and behind me looking at the satisfied countenances of devotees who had the darshan and coming out .We were feeling good for them. I was just praying that my turn should come. However, I just did not know how to negotiate the crowd and fulfill my desire. It was a tough situation. Almost impossible to get there. JUST behind me at a distance was an empty truck of the sansthan and the driver was sitting in his seat. The sound levels of people singing hymns, the striking of brass plates and chanting of HIS name just would not allow us to hear anything clearly. The air was rent fragrant and there was certain euphoria prevalent in the air. There was joy all around. Some people stood around and some behind me. SUDDENLY there was a feeble call which said "Aho Saheb". I looked back and ignored thinking it must be a call for some one else. The voice called again and again & I ignored. This continued three times. All the time I ignored the caller thinking I was not the "Saheb". When I heard the fourth call, I looked behind curiously.It was the driver of the truck calling. He gesticulated to me and spoke " I am calling you , yes. You Saheb, pointng to me ! Please will you come here", bending out of his seat. I went and he said “Sahib, can I ask you for a favour? The silver "chatra" (umbrella) which should have been placed above Maharaj's mask has been left inadvertently in the vehicle. MY forefathers must have done some good, so may be the good fortune has come my way, I thought to myself. I took the "silver umbrella" ( त) in my hand. I

was trembling but held it firmly. I was nervous, overwhelmed, and emotional. It was a moment of a life time. As I proceeded slowly forward towards the palkhi, the crowds bowed in reverence to the `Chattra'. They made way for me and it was like the waters of the river making way for Shri Vasudev to carry Lord Krishna across the river. As I reached closer, the palkhi attendants held my arms and helped me place the umbrella at the right place. I placed my head on HIS holy feet and had a wonderful 'darshan' of the Master. I still can't get over the whole episode. It was a hair-raising experience. An ordinary man was "chosen" for placing HIS chattra made my day, nay, my life! I will never be able to repay this debt in umpteen lives. And I wish it remains that way! Jay Gajanan!

I have visited Shegaon couple of times in my life. I am staying at Virginia Tech University, Blacksburg, USA. In 2005 in the month of May my entire family went to Shegaon. We went in a rented jeep from Shirpur. Afternoon (after 1:00 PM) we went to take Darshan at Samadhi Mandir of Shri Gajanan Maharaj.

IT was very hot day of May and afternoon. We took out our sandals/shoes and we started walking towards the queue. The distance between where we took out our sandals/shoes and the queue entrance was not much. However, the temple area everything is made up of stone. Obviously the whole walking distance area was so hot that we could not walk with bare foot. In fact we saw people were pouring water on the walking area so that devotees can walk easily. AFTER some distance we saw wet jute mattresses up to the queue entrance. All of us started walking through the wet area. However, Sun was pouring heat so much that water was evaporating immediately. We walked 15-20 steps and decided to run. My mother-in-law walked 8-10 steps she told that she will go back sit near the tree and have Darshan from outside and she will not come. It was really difficult for us also. We said that is fine. She started going back.We started running ahead. WHEN my mother in law started walking back (we must have reached to queue entrance by this time since we were running), one small boy (may be 11-12 year old) came and he offered slippers to my mother-in-law and told that she can walk. To my mother in law, boy was looking from a very poor family and my mother-in-law thought he may be expecting little money from this service. Immediately, my mother in law wore his slippers. They were perfect size! She started walking slowly. She had diabetes and she could not walk very fast.

THE boy was walking/jumping slowly along with her on his bare foot! My mother in law gradually came to the queue entrance. She gave back slippers to the boy and started looking for her purse so that she can give him money. However, she realized that her purse she had given to my wife. All of us had walked quiet ahead inside the queue entrance. It was not possible for her to see us. She told the boy when she returns back after darshan, she will offer him money.

HE should be standing same place where he gave her slippers. The boy immediately agreed and went back smiling/jumping/ dancing. INSIDE, when we saw my mother-in-law came walking we were thrilled. The queue was very big. Outside the entrance, already I had read that the waiting darshan time for the queue was 1 hour 30 minutes. There was huge crowd inside. After some time, we were deep inside the queue. Due to heat inside, my daughter (8 years old) and my nephew (5 years old) were becoming impatient. My mother in law also started feeling uncomfortable. She started telling that she will go out. Then, suddenly queue started moving. She felt that she can have darshan. Again, after some time the same story. We though in another 10-15 minutes we will have darshan. After 10-15 minutes we reached inside the temple and saw still there is huge queue ahead of us. I believe while writing that all of you have seen the darshan queue. THE 1 hour 30 minutes waiting time mentioned outside the entrance was right estimated time. Again my mother in law started telling that she will go out. But there was no way to go out. Queue will start moving little bit. My mother in law could never go out and all of us, after a given wait time, had nice Darshan. WHEN, we came outside the temple, the boy was not there. She was looking for the boy. She could not find the boy. While returning, I started laughing almost all the time and telling her that see, you wanted to come out but Maharaj made sure that you will get darshan. AT that time she told me that people have lot of experiences in their life. I have full faith, devotion in Lord. I always go to temple. I do worship everyday in the morning and evening. AS a scientist, my mind could not think of Chamatakars. About the boy I thought that some boy must have helped her for money.

WHEN we came out, he might have gone again in search of his money for food. My imagination stopped beyond this point. I had totally forgotten about this incidence. TODAY, almost after so many years, I realize that the boy was not from poor family. He was not beggar. He came to help suddenly. He walked/jumped/ danced bare foot on the hot stone. The slippers were perfect size. He did not ask or argue for money. He could have told my mother in law that if she gives some amount then he will give his slippers. But he did not do anything like that. When we came out of Samadhi Mandir, he was not there. I thought he must have gone again in search of money for food. I was once again wrong in my `rational' thinking. THE boy had gone "Once again in search of people who need His help". I know what I am able to see in that Boy after so many years. I do not have to write in words. Even though I did not see the boy personally, I can now see the boy in front of my eyes. This is how one can feel (it will be more correct to say "see") "GOD". �वशाल हणतात. SWAMI Vivekananda says, “We have to seize our unstable mind and drag it from its wandering and fix it on one idea. Over and over it must be done by the power of our will. Then gradually purity of mind must be insisted upon it.“ THE mystical yogi Sadguru says, “Mind is a complex gadget, source of thoughts. Your mind is like a society's garbage bin. Everybody that goes by, stuffs something in. There is no subtraction or division, only addition and multiplication exponentially. You have to have strong will to get rid off your thoughts“. So he suggests pulverizing the impressions of the thoughts of yesterday and of the past, and starting a new day everyday. GAJANAN-GUNJAN Question 2: Please share your understanding about the the difference between mind and chitta. Shravan Pande, Shegaon (India) JAY GAJANAN! It is very simple, if we will think little bit deeper, we can find the answer of this question. What I mentioned here is hundred percent true, “if we will think little bit Deeper” this means, if “we” start the “thinking” process and go deeper and “deeper level of thinking” we will reach to the answer. HERE, “We” means our Mind OR we can say it “Conscious Mind” because this is the Thought level. Thought level means we can recognize our thinking as “Thought” consciously and clearly. This level is very “Surface level” of our Consciousness. This level is just 10 percent of our whole range of Consciousness. If we say our whole Consciousness is 100 percent, then this Conscious Mind or Thought level is just 10 percent on the surface level, means from 100 to 90 percent of the total field of Consciousness. WHEN we go deeper through the practice of Transcendental Meditation, we go beyond 90, through the 90 to 80, and then 80 to 70, and 70 to 60, and 50, and 20, and 10, and further more and more deeper up to the “0” percent. WHEN we go deeper, we experience our thoughts are becoming faint and faint, and more faint, they become subtle, and subtler, and still more subtle, and then ultimately subtlest thoughts. At one stage we reach in the field of “0” percent. Means “0” percent thoughts.

This means there is NO THOUGHTS at all in this field. This field is called the “Chitta” OR The Transcendental Consciousness, Pure Consciousness, Absolute Silent Field of Consciousness, the field of NOTHINGNESS, the field of Thoughtlessness, this is Absolute “Being”, the “Chitta”. SO, this is how we can find the “Chitta” right from the “Mind” and through this experience we are now understood the difference between “Mind and Chitta”. Shruti Van Wicklen, Seattle (USA) JAY GAJANAN! I have been thinking about this on and off over the last month and all I have is guesses. To me, involving the mind (manan) seems to be about focusing thoughts, calming emotions which all seem to be actions and reactions around the material world. Chitta, which I think of as the soul is level deeper. It seems to me that chintan is about letting your soul be touched, be moved by good vibrations like those sometimes found in chants, good music or peaceful quiet. Am I on the right track? I'm curious to learn and understand. Gitanjali Mantri, Atlanta (USA) JAY GAJANAN! I think manan (मनन) is driven by man (मन)रor emotions, buddhi has a role to play in chintan (ररतन). Nitin Gokarn, Mumbai (India) JAY GAJANAN! The mind is of the nature of sankalpa and vikalpa, i.e. affirmation and negation, likes and dislikes, etc. Chitta (ररतत) is the storehouse of

our memories and vvaasanaas (वासना). Manana

(मनन) and chintana (ररतन) mean one and the same thing - reflection or doing vichaar (�वरार). Jai Gajanan!

GAJANAN-GUNJAN Question 3:

What is 'Tirtha' and why it is so special? What is Angara and what’s its significance? What is Prasad and what’s its importance. Neeta Kalve, Boston (USA) JAY GAJANAN! Tirtha is the holy water used in association of the Guru or Deity. Angara or Vibhuti is sacred ash blessed by the Guru and applied on the forehead. Prasad is offering made to God and distributed to family and friends to get blessings from the offering. While this is the literal meaning of these sacred items used to purify and bless the devotee, to really experience the result it is very important to take it with complete shraddha. IN Gajanan Vijay Granth chapter 3, Tirtha touched by Shri Gajanan Maharaj was given to Shri Janrao Deshmukh who was on death bed, after taking the Tirtha he was completely cured and he was relieved from ‘gandantar’ (difficult time). SHRI Dasganu Maharaj say in this chapter ‘Shraddhaa purna asalyaawari tich mrutyu taali khari, shradhhaach avaghyaa mazahri, sarva bajuni shreshta ase’ meaning complete shraddha only reliefs from the danger of death or hard circumstances and shraddha itself holds highest significance. Shri Shirdi Sai Baba also gave the same message in the two virtues shraddha (faith) and saburi (patience). IN shri Sai Satcharitra chapter 33, Udi mahima is given. Sai Baba used to give Udi or angara as blessings which cured many physical and mental pain of the devotees. THROUGH udi Sai Baba taught a lot of things, all the visible phenomena in the universe are as transient as the ash. Our bodies composed of wood or matter of the five elements, will fall down at end and be reduced to ashes.

IN order to remind the devotees of the fact that their bodies will be reduced to ashes, Baba distributed Udi to them and taught non-attachment. IN Sai Satcharitra story, a friend of Narayanrao was stung by a scorpion and the pain caused by it was severe and unbearable. Narayanrao searched for Udi to be applied on the painful spot but could not find it. Then he stood before Baba's picture and invoked Baba, chanted Baba's name and taking out a pinch of the ashes of the joss-stick burning in front of Baba's picture and thinking it to be Baba's Udi, applied it on the seat of pain and the sting. As soon as he took out his fingers, the pain vanished. This shows that Angara in any form when applied with complete shraddha only works. IN Shri Gajanan Vijay Granth, Shri Maharaj cured Bhau Kavar painful boil which was not getting cured after lot of medications. The person named Gaja (who was Shri Gajanan Maharaj himself) had come from Shegaon with 'Tirtha' and 'Angara' for Bhau Kavar which relieved him from the unbearable pain. SHRIi Gajanan Maharaj gave Mango as prasad to Laxman Ghude who was suffering from deadly disease. In this disease Mango is considered to be very bad but that Mango only cured him as it was blessing given by Maharaj himself. MANY people still today experience such leelas where Sadguru comes to help them in difficult time in some form or other and blesses the devotees with the help of Tirtha, angara or prasad. This is possible only with complete shraddha and submission to Guru. Jai Gajanan!

GAJANAN-GUNJAN Question 4: Shri Gajanan Maharaj had asked Shri Nimonkar to chant a 'Shodakshari Mantra' (Chapter 19). Please share if you know

anything about that Mantra or have done any research on that? Nitin Gokarn, Mumbai (India) JAY GAJANAN! Normally, Mantra given by Guru to a Shishya is confidential and the shishya is advised not to reveal it to anybody. This mantra is hence unknown to the Nimonkar family as well. GAJANAN-GUNJAN Question 5:

सत हच भ�मर र चालत बकलत परमशर ररागाच सागर र दात मक�पदाच ॥ Please share your understanding and realizations of this Ovi from SGV. Shravan Pande, Shegaon (India) JAY GAJANAN! “Sant Hech Bhumivar | Chalate Bolate Parameshwar | Vairagyache Sagar | Daate Moksha Padache ||” means “On the Earth, Saints are the Gods, Ocean of Renunciation, and Giver of Liberation.” SHREE Dasganu Maharaj now offers obeisance to all the Saints and Sages asking for the kind grace of all the Saints for the composition of this "Shri Gajanan Vijay Granth". In his prayers he is admiring, doing "Stuti" of the Saints, so that the Saint's will help him in this Granth rachana. IN the "Stuti" of the Saints, Shree Dasganu Maharaj is saying, सत हर भ�मवर न रालत बोलत

परमशवर. Now we should understand that what "Parameshwar" means. IN "Parameshwar" there are two words, Param and Ishwar, Param means "Eternal" and Ishwer means "Unity Consciousness" or "Brahmi Chetna". So, "Parameshwar" means "Eternal Unity Consciousness". In this process of experiencing the "Unity Consciousness" (Brahmi Chetana), we simply starts from the experience of "Transcendental Consciousness" (Turiya), and by practicing this, we can experiences "Cosmic Consciousness" (Turiyatit), "God consciousness" (Bhagvat Chetana), and the "Unity Consciousness" (Brahmi Chetana), which is extremely "REFINED" level of consciousness. THIS refined level of experience can be "STABILIZED" and lead to a state of "Enlightenment", in which the unmanifest level of Natural Law and the entire range of manifestation of space and time can be

experienced this is called "Brahmi Chetana", the "Unity Consciousness". सत हर भ�मवरन रालत बोलत परमशवरन means “On the Earth, Saints are the Gods.” EVEN on the sensory level, this "refined" level of experience in which the unmanifest level of Natural Law and the entire range of manifestation of space and time can be experienced, this state of human awareness is called "Bhagvat Chetana" or "God Consciousness". Human Consciousness is capable of fathoming Totality on the most abstract level of generality, as well as on the concrete level of all specific values and diversified expression." This is exactly the level of "Chalate Bolate Parameshwar". Our "Shree" is on the level of "God Consciousness" at the time of experience the relative field of consciousness means this material world. This is why, it is said "Saints are Gods", Saint and God are same. वरागयार सागर न दात मो�पदार ॥ (“Ocean of Renunciation, and Giver of Liberation.”) ON this state of "God Consciousness" the unmanifest level of Natural Law and the entire range of manifestation of space and time can be experienced, and Human Consciousness is capable of fathoming Totality on the most abstract level of generality, as well as on the concrete level of all specific values and diversified expression, and so, there is no any "desire" remains to experience on the material level, and Saints becomes the Ocean of renunciation or "Vairagyache Sagar". And because of this, Saints can do the same thing with the devotee, who surrenders totally to Him or God. Means Saints can give the "Moksha" from all the desires to the devotee, this is why, it is said, "Daate Moksha Padache ||". THIS is why; we all devotees should increase our devotion and surrender totally towards our "Shree" who is the Great "Saint", who is the “Chalate Bolate Parameshwar",

means who is Stabilized in the "Brahmi Chetana" but at the same time coming on the level of "God Consciousness". And also, who is "Vairagyache Sagar" and "Daate Moksha Padache". सत हर सननजतजरज न म�त र होय पतय� सारज न सत भवय कलयाणारज न प आह �वबध हो ॥ (Sant Hech Sannitichi | Murti Hoy Pratyeksha Sachi | Sant Bhavya Kalyanachi | Peth Aahe Vibudh ho ||) “Saints are the Embodiment of all that is Good, Sacred and full on Sanctity.” सत हर सननजतजरज न म�त र होय पतय� सारज न (Sant Hech Sannitichi | Murti Hoy Pratyeksha Sachi |) “Saints are the Embodiment of all that is Good.” ON the level of "God Consciousness" the "unmanifest level of Natural Law" and "the entire range of manifestation" of space and time can be experienced, and Human Consciousness is capable of fathoming Totality on the most abstract level of generality, as well as on the concrete level of all specific values and diversified expression. This means Saint can handle both fields at a time, one is "unmanifest level of Natural Law" and other is "the entire range of manifestation", one is the "Absolute" and other is "Relative". And because of "Relative" field is the expression of the "Absolute" field, the Law of Nature supports to Saints to handle the "Relative" field according to "Law of Nature", or according to the "Absolute" field, and because of the support of the Natural Law the "Spontaneous Righteous Action" happen by the Saints and this is why, "Saints are the embodiment of all that is good, sacred and full on sanctity, that is, "Sant Hech Sannitichi | Murti Hoy Pratyeksha Sachi |". सत भवय कलयाणारज न प आह �वबध हो ॥ ("Sant Bhavya Kalyanachi | Peth Aahe Vibudh ho ||") “Saints are the Embodiment of all that is Good.”

BECAUSE of the support of the Natural Law the "Spontaneous Righteous Actions" happen by the Saints and so, all the actions of Saints get immediate fulfillment and this is why Shri Dasganu Maharaj says, सत भवय कलयाणारज न प आह �वबध हो ॥ ("Sant Bhavya Kalyanachi | Peth Aahe Vibudh ho ||") means Saints are the market of Kalyan or welfare, where anyone can buy the Kalyan or welfare, by exchanging the "Pure Devotion" with total surrender. ॐ सव� भवनत स�ळननन सव� सनत �नरामयानन सव� भदा�ण पशयनत न मा कदशरत दनळ भागभवत ॥
