Under the Basic Policy announced by the National Government, the decontamination will be
basically conducted by the National Government and Local Governments for public facilities, such
as roads; by Municipalities for housing facilities: and by cooperation of community residents for
spots with localized high radiation dose, such as gutters and drain pipes.
Please feel free to consult with us if you have any question on decontamination.

How much can we reduce the radiation dose by decontamination?
The effects of decontamination have been promising.
Decontamination of gutters in the roadBefore decontamination After decontamination
13 Sv/h 1.6 Sv/h
Decontamination of paved covers of drain pipesBefore decontamination After decontamination
40Sv/h 3.7 to 4.2Sv/h
Please teach me how to temporarily keep the soil and sand from the decontamination work.

What are the regulations for radioactive substances contained in the food?
The foods exceeding the provisional regulatory value specified by the National Government are
not edible.
The provisional regulatory values are specified as follows. However, even if you kept eating and
drinking foods exceeding the provisional regulatory value for the time being, there will be no effect
on health.
The provisional regulatory value
Radioactive cesium / 50 Bq/kg Drinking water, Milk
Radioactive cesium / 100 Bq/kg Vegetables, Sea foods, Grain, Meat & Eggs
Unit of radiationBecquerel (Bq) is a unit to express the strength of radioactivity.
Sievert (Sv) is a unit to express the degree of effect on a human body.
(Millisievert)

A. The Prefectural Government is undertaking the Healthcare Control Survey for
prefecturalresidents (Basic Survey), in order to attend to the health of residents for a long time
and enhance their future health condition.
Subject: All the residents (residents who stayed in the prefecture as of March 11)Content of the survey: To estimate and access the exposure dose from radiation focusing on the behavioral record from March
11 to 25. The external exposure dose will be calculated based on the information that you describe in the delivered self-report
questionnaires about when, whereabouts and time span.
Survey result: The result will be notified to each respondent.
Contact: Survey in general:
Way to fill in the self-report questionnaires:
A. Please follow the manual containing the method of decontamination work and disposal method
for radioactive waste. The prefectural government is implementing the Support Project for
radiation dose reduction activities to support regional decontamination activities through
communities. Moreover, we will be able to send experts, such as advisers to help
decontamination.
