This easy project goes quickly, and what goes quickly is also fun, right? I dyed a white yarn (Smart from Sandnes Garn) for the gloves. For the ribbing at the top, I used a regular solid-color yarn. And who says you have to make both gloves alike? Not me! If you want to try dyeing yarn, see page 130 in the Craft School section.

4. Thumb gusset: Knit until 1 st rem on Ndl 4. Pm and then, before working the last st, increase with M1 (pick up loop between two sts and knit into back loop; see page 114 in the Craft School section). Knit the last st on Ndl 4 and then M1 between Ndls 4 and 1; pm = 3 sts for thumb gusset. Rep the increases on every other rnd (= 2 sts increased on each increase rnd) after the 1st marker and before the 2nd marker a total of 7 (7) times.

For my half gloves, size S, the number of sts be-tween the markers for the thumb gusset is:After 1st inc: 3 sts 2nd increase: 5 sts3rd increase: 7 sts4th increase: 9 sts5th increase: 11 sts6th increase: 13 sts7th increase: 15 sts

5. Place the thumb gusset sts between the markers onto a holder. If the thumb gusset isn’t long enough or the sts don’t fit well around the base of your thumb, do another increase rnd or two.

6. CO 1 new st over the gap (to replace the 1st st you increased around) and then knit 3 more rnds in stockinette.

7. Change yarn and work around in k2, p2 rib-bing until ribbing measures 1¼ (1¼) in / 3 (3) cm or desired length.

8. Thumb: Place the 15 (15) sts from the holder onto dpn. Pick up and knit 3 new sts along top of thumbhole. Divide the sts onto 3 dpn. If the thumb feels too small, pick up and knit more sts. Knit 6 (6) rnds in stockinette and then BO.

9. Weave in all ends neatly on WS. Make another half glove the same way, changing colors if you like. Soak gloves in lukewarm water, and then gently squeeze out excess water. Lay them flat to dry.
