Leading by Honor• As you begin to have more interactions with

knobs, understand leading with honor is the key to good leadership

• Think about the good and bad leadership you have seen as an upperclassman this year

– Do you lose respect for others whom consistently transmit bad leadership?

– Does the way an upperclassman treats a knob deter you from interacting with that upperclassman?

Lead Vertically to Lead Horizontally

• Focusing your leadership around honor will cause you to strive among your peers– Leading by example and doing what you are supposed

to be doing will cause for your classmates to respect you as both a friend and as a leader

• As the year ends, emphasize honor in your leadership to set the standard and the habit for the remainder of your cadet career and post grad profession

It’s Not Always Easy

• As you begin to have more responsibility to lead in the corps, understand honorable leadership is not always easy

• Lead with integrity and do the right thing, regardless of how stressful or frustrating it sometimes may be

Leading Effects Everyone

• As a leader, both in the corps and after graduation, your leadership style effects those under your guidance, your friends and even yourself

• As you lead, your actions will have positive or negative effects

• What you do to someone will turn around and come back to you, whether good or bad

8

FOR TRAINING USE ONLY

• If you maintain honorable leadership, those under you and your peers next to you will respect, appreciate, and possibly reward you for demonstrating good leadership– Knobs will look to your for guidance– Your friends will respect and possibly even learn from your

leadership style– Rewards such as higher rank and more opportunities will

come

• However, bad leadership will have a negative impact as well

Discussion

• Led by your Co. Honor Rep., discuss several topics surrounding honorable leadership as you grow in your cadet career

1. What post grad benefits and opportunities will come out of learning to lead the right way now, while a cadet?

2. What causes for cadets and leaders in general to sacrifice their honor in order to lead in a negative manner?

3. Discuss a situation that could arise in the corps that would allow for honorable leadership to be necessary like the story depicted in the video. 10
