From the early 1980’s, Guillermo Forchino experi -ments with various materials to create works ofart in volume. This research began at the Ecole desBeaux-Arts in Rosario, Argentina and thencontinued with three years of studies in artrestoration and conservation at the SorbonneUniversity in Paris, France. During his studies hediscovered and mastered classic techniques andmaterials.

After completing his studies in Paris, he returnedto Argentina where he directed the Juan B.Castagnino atelier of art restoration for theMuseum of Beaux-Arts of Rosario. It was duringthis period that Forchino began creating figuresmade from wrapped bands of cloth where thevisible parts of the body (head and hands) weremade from wax and paper maché colored withnatural pigments.

At the end of the 1980’s, Forchino chose polyresins to create figures and scenes that resemblethe world of comic strip and cartoon characters. They are typically unusual and humorous subjectssuch as a family leaving on vacation in anoverloaded car with flat tires or a tired, oldAmerican pick-up truck from the 1950’s. He hasused other modes of trans por ta tion such as boats, planes and motorcycles and has even used abathtub for a military dictator. His characters arealways handled with humor and finesse and givena soul.

Guillermo Forchino lives and works in Paris in hisworkshop two steps away from the Père Lachaisecemetery.

The Comic Art of Guillermo Forchino is nowavailable for a larger group of art lovers in the formof limited edition, numbered series.

Adeafening siren howled in the crowded streets of Rosario City. The fire truck, moving athigh speed, left passer-bys perplexed. Everyone watched the enormous mass with surprise

as it managed to zigzag through the ocean of cars. Ten minutes of high speed driving sufficedthe brave firemen to arrive just in time to prevent, Mimi, the cat of the ravishing blonde MariaAlicia Vicari, from falling out of the tree where it was taking her siesta in the sun. Our heroesbattled for 45 minutes, but after numerous scratches and bites, they managed to bring down theintractable animal. With applause from the neighbours, they returned the feline to her mistresswho by mistake let the cat escape. The charming kitty, with a superb leap, managed to climb evenhigher. Fortunately, the ladder was still in place.

F rom the radio came strange music. Frankie raised the volume until the whole car startedto vibrate. Susan, at his side, started to move to the rhythm. In the back seat, Danny, Lily,

and Ricky began to rock, when the voice of the great Elvis surged out between the sound waves.Along the street, people turned to watch as they went by. The car was a true marvel, and theenthusiasm of the five kids was contagious. When they parked on Madison Avenue, they wereimmediately surrounded by a group of teenagers. Two police officers, intrigued by the noise, tried to make their way through the crowd that was dancing frenetically, totally paralyzing traffic. On the sidewalk across the street, an older couple observed the spectacle with a surprised air.The man tossed his head from right to left and the woman covered her mouth with her hand tostifle a frightened scream. Completely discombobulated, they walked more quickly anddisappeared after rounding the corner.

M iss Belkys, tapped at her machine with one finger, not understanding anything aboutcomputers, speaking no foreign languages, and on top of that hating accounting and

Despite these “small” inconveniences, the day of her interview with thepresident, Mr. Raúl López Monti, she stood out among the 25 best educated candidates in thecity and obtained, without too much effort, the coveted position of personal secretary. As always, there were some jealous ones who said it was because of her plunging neckline and tight fittingskirt. Belkys, convinced herself that she earned the position thanks to the intensive marketingcourse which she took by correspondence at the Institute of Middle Studies in Tijuana. Thefollowing day and in a rush, the president left with her on a “business trip” for a week at ParadiseBeach, a trip that finally had to be extended to a month.Back to the office, the new secretaryasked for a raise which was immediately granted. Moreover, her boss announced that she hadbeen an excellent assistant despite the fact that she hadn’t taken a single note because she hadforgotten all the files at the office.

An informer had warned police that a large quantity of drugs were going to be delivered nearthe beltway across the street from the motel “Las Brujas”. Immediately the unit that was

on patrol near the location where the deal was going to be down, was called urgently to the scene.Via the internet, the photo of the main suspect, the terrible “Carrot Top”, was sent directly tothe patrol car’s on-board computer. Lieutenant Steve O’Connor, seeing the portrait, felt a strongpain in his stomach. The resemblance with the suspect was unsettling. Angie, the policewomanas his side, looked at the photo and said, a little troubled, “I have the impression that I’ve seenthis guy before.” Cold drops of sweat trickled down the forehead of Lieutenant O’Connor, whowas trying to hide his face, said “It’s amazing how all us redheads look alike! …It’s like theChinese, we all look alike.”

O n a very hot day, Miss Marta Gaitan Barberio and her friend Mercedes Arana Calderondecided, after a long trip by train, to go home by cab. The taxi was an old model and rather

badly kept up; the body was all beat up and held together with iron wire. The driver of thecompletely demolished vehicle wouldn't let the ladies put their luggage in the trunk because itwas already filled with six packages of sausages, barbecued ham, and three cartons of beer. Hewouldn't let them put their belongings on the front seat either, because he didn't want it ruined.Once they got home, Marta and Mercedes had to ask a passer-by to help them squeeze out of thecar.

S téphanie always took care of her stylish figure, but since she has been working as a waitress, she suffered horribly when succulent sandwiches, hamburgers, pizzas, fries, ice cream,

chocolate mousse passed before her eyes ... dishes she could only look at to satisfy herself. Oneday while working, she heard a strange sound, like a siren. At first she thought it was her newmobile phone and then she realized that the whistling came from her stomach and she felt likecrying. At that precise moment a group of young people entered the restaurant. Among them aboy observed her attentively. It was love at first sight. The young man, dumbstruck, mouth wideopen, looked into her eyes and drew a ridiculous smile. A little while after, Stéphanie couldn’tbelieve what was happening to her, dressed in a wedding dress with an enormous bouquet offlowers in her hands and seated in a magnificent convertible next to Gilles, the love of her life, who in an impeccable tuxedo, had on his lips, the same ridiculous smile of that famous first day.

Marcelo Castaño, the millionaire, owned numerous collectors cars, but the one that hepreferred the most was his ’52 cream colored convertible. His wife hated the car and she

had the bad idea of giving him an ultimatum. “You have to decide, the car or me!” she said. Itwas only a sentence, a short one, but enough for the millionaire to understand his mistake andnot delay in fixing it. A week later, he already had met a superb 25 year old blonde who confessedto have fallen in love with him at first sight. On top of that, she loved riding and cuddling up tohim in the old convertible. There was no doubt that Castaño was a real “Don Juan.”

A fter having won the lottery, Charlie and Pete insisted that they be addressed as CharlesEdward and Pierre Henri. The first thing they did was to buy some designer brand clothes,

“Hollywood” style sunglasses, and a tanning lamp so they could have that perfect “Caribbean”tan. They had the hair removed from their chests and backsides and started using anti-wrinklecream. They didn’t forget to buy flamboyant gold watches and to top everything off, they boughtthemselves the very best, their dream car, a collector’s convertible that became the envy of theneighbourhood. They went out for a ride around town pretending to be VIPs. They stopped at astreet corner with the music full blast. Talking very loud, they exchanged the 5 or 6 words inFrench that they knew. Seeing two sculptured beauties approaching, they said to themselves,“these two are ours.” When the two babes passed in front of them, Charles Edward puffed up hischest, stroke a suave pose, and cocking his head to the side, said “excuse me, girls, haven’t wealready see each other somewhere?” The two girls completely ignored him, and without sayinga word, continued their way. Desperate, Pierre Henri, risked throwing in, “uh, girls you wouldn’tlike to take a little car ride, would you?” And he heard one girl saying to the other “just where dothese clowns come from?” After an hour without having the slightest success, Charlie said “Andwhat if we went to have a beer?” “Ehh, sure, why not?” answered Pete. Their heads down anddragging their feet, they went in the direction of the corner bar to finish the night as usual.

Abel Robino rode unperturbed on his magnificent motorcycle. He knew that women were crazyabout him. They adored his beautiful tattoos, his athletic physique and his luring profile.

Robino, however, had only eyes for his motorcycle. The only thing that interested him in theentire world was to speed to Sturgis City to attend, in August, the legendary and fabulous BlackHills Motor Classic. After 10 years of uninterrupted riding, he had acquired both experience andself confidence, but what he without a doubt had caught, was an insupportable irritation on hisrear end. While letting nothing appear on his face, he continued his route expressionless, like aknight of modern times.

When I meet the guys at the bar, they always tease me about my little beer belly. “Who areyou going to seduce with that hippopotamus stomach?” say the jokers. “You and your bike

are definitely losers” and they laugh like hyenas. They could never have imagined Betty’sexcitement when I invited her to go for a ride. “Antique bikes fascinate me” she exclaimed whenclimbing on the back and hugging up close to me. “Let’s go, sugar, take off, I love this stuff.” Icouldn’t believe it, the sensual body pressed against me was the most sought after girl in theneighborhood. I stopped in front of the bar, looked inside and with an arrogant smile, gunned thethrottle. Just looking at the faces of the guys and I knew they were going to have trouble sleepingthat night.

I t was as if the motorcycle was going to fall apart any minute. The deafening noise of the 1300cc motor and the way it vibrated was proof of its extraordinary power. After each acceleration,it left behind a cloud of smoke seriously handicapping the racers behind him. Excited spectatorsencouraged the famous driver, who at each skidding turn drenched them from head to foot. Ercila,“The Red”, was used to risking his life at each race. In the turns, his knee posed on the asphaltleft a trail of sparks, especially after doctors had replaced his kneecap with a metal insert. Atthe end of the race, his fans crushed around him in euphoria giving him vigorous hugs. His racingsuit, completely drenched, dripped leaving a puddle of sweat as a proof of his effort. “The Red”,happy with his performance, drifted away, smiling, in the direction of the changing room, whilehis fans jumped with joy in the puddle left behind.

He stops for exactly 4 seconds at the pits where his efficientmechanics, thanks to some duck tape, manage to repair the damage. He immediately takes offlike a rocket, spewing thick black smoke and finds himself on the last lap, only one second fromthe leader. In the last turn, thanks to an incredible and spectacular maneuver, with severalcentimeters to the finish line, he succeeds in passing his rival. Miss Lidia Garcia had spent a large part of her life working in a sad office at the municipalbuilding of her home town. One day, she decided that the moment had come to search for

adventure, to launch herself in something that would allow her to escape from her bland andmonotonous life. After having visited the travel agent “Wild Planet”, and totally excited afterhearing the ideas they lavished on her, she started out for the Amazon jungle in the company ofthe famous explorer and adventurer, named quite appropriately, “Jack the dangerous”. Thanksto this fantastic trip, she learned to light a fire with two sticks of wood, observed wild animalsfrom only a few feet away, cross streams filled with piranhas, and ride aboard a 4-wheel drivealong super dangerous cliff edges. Among other surprises, she was attacked by an orangutangand stung by an incalculable number of unknown insects. Sunday the sun rose under a clear sky, when the previous Saturday night had a downpour.Fabian watched the trees as they bent in the wind. The woods were full of puddles; the roads

were flooded, filled with rocks and fallen branches. A thick, wet coat of mud covered the landscape. The path which led to the mountain had become a real quagmire with a soup of rocks and marsh.A total nightmare, but in reality a great day for a little ride on the quad. Fabian started theengine and listened to the delicious purring. He gave a few pumps of the accelerator; the engineroared and two long flames leaped from the tail pipes … he felt invincible. At the end of the day, after four hours of adventure, he went home happy. Covered with mud from head to toe, he lookedlike chocolate cake. He proudly went into the house and walked across the living room carpet. His wife turned to welcome him home, but upon seeing him, was overcome by an attack of musclespasms and tremors and fell flat on the floor.

School wasn't a real passion for the little Richard. The only thing that he really wanted wasto drive one day a beautiful automobile. One morning at school, he was punished for having

not done his homework. Extremely angry, his teacher told him that he wouldn't become ofanything in life, that no one would be interested in him and assured him that he would be thelaughing stock of the town. Thirty years later when Lord Richard Walter Eigler bought himselfthis magnificent sports car equipped with 12 in-line cylinders, a certain jealousy was awakenedin his neighbors. His frequent promenades down the streets of Coronda City at the wheel of hissplendid automobile drew envious looks and comments. He wasn't bothered by this; to thecontrary, he experienced a subtle and soft trembling of pleasure.

beautiful landscape to contemplate and to reproduce as a painting. In the back seat, “Aramis”,the dog, jumped for joy on the tubes of oil paint, spraying paint in a “happening” of colors. Fromthe left front wheel came a strange noise, the suspension was in a sorry state, the car paint, rusted and cracked, was a pale reminder of the original color. The body had suffered over timeand had a few good dents, but the engine ... ah the engine, with its characteristic musical purr, afeast for the ears, something sublime, magical! Jean Marc has a lot of experience….experience in moving. It was the 18th time he had moved. He was so used to moving that when changing houses, he didn’t even empty the fridge or

washing machine. “It doesn’t really make a difference,” he said. He just loaded up the truck anddrove to the new address. The houses that he rented were less and less comfortable and gettingsmaller and smaller, it was definitely hard times. Finally his wife said that it seemed easier tolive in the truck than to load and unload the furniture each time. Jean Marc thought about itand came to the conclusion that the idea wasn’t really so bad after all. At least this way, hewouldn’t have to defrost the fridge.

will always be my favorite car. The only problem is that when the whole family goes shopping weare a little cramped when we come home. The other day, coming back from grocery shopping, Ihad to ask the neighbor to help my wife getting out of the car because she was stuck betweenthe cans of tomatoes and the washing powder. And don’t forget the mouth to mouth method wehad to give my son and to his sister as well, who had a jar of whipped cream on her head, we hadto handle the spatula with care to lose as little as possible. Me, I didn’t have any trouble, withoutreally noticing I had sat on a stick of butter and just slipped out of the car with no problem.

It’s incredible the interest that I awake in women and it’s amazing the way that they areattracted to my admirable physique. Each time a woman sees me pass, she is fascinated. Fewwomen can resist my charm. All that thanks to my captivating look, my ravishing smile, andmy sexy Greco-roman profile. I am even forced to hide behind mirrored sunglasses to try andpass incognito. Jealous people just make me laugh, they say that women are not interested inme, but in my powerful Shelby Cobra 427 S/C® which I drive everywhere, but that… that isonly what the jealous ones think.

It was a beautiful Sunday in spring. That day Dick and his buddy Harry promised to playwithout their usual squabbling. Everything was going fine until Dick decided to remove a smallstone that bothered him on his putting line on the green of the third hole. Harry didn't want tolet him do it, but after some heated discussion he finally gave in. But when he removed the stone,a big clump of dirt stuck to it, which left an enormous hole. From that moment on Dick lost hisusual concentration and calm. He completely messed up his usually superb swing. It was notbecause of the two wrong balls he played in a row, nor because of his broken club - a three woodon the sixth hole, and not even because of the four balls he lost, which infuriated him - but whatreally got to him was that sneering smile on Harry’s face as he sat behind the wheel of that littlecart. That grin … was totally unbearable!

After having watched during his entire childhood “The Lucille Ball Show”, Pipo Saulle, becamea television addict. He watches every series and soap opera that is shown. In his eyes, the

remote control is the best invention since the tele. He doesn’t stop channel surfing a singleinstant and he knows all the showbiz gossip. He knows the advertisements by heart and canguess the brand of a product even before it appears on the screen; at this game, he is unbeatable. When he wins, he raises his arms to the sky, makes the V for victory sign and yells while circlingthe coffee table “I won, I won” His other passion is popcorn and hamburgers which he chassesdown with enormous gulps of ice cold beer. My God! Life is good! If he didn’t have to work, hewould have the impression of being in paradise.

They told me that no one would ever come to see me and thatI would be put in prison for the disturbing the peace, that I would die from hunger….How theywere all wrong! Now, not only more and more people come to see my concerts, but the best thingis that, thanks to everything they throw on stage, my family opened a grocery store just nextdoor.

Athick cloud of smoke had invaded the night club. Scantily clad women showed-off theirgenerous curves. On the tables, bottles of whisky and unknown drinks of questionable

distillation contented an inebriated public in the midst of vapors of cheap alcohol. The air washeavy. At midnight, after the striptease of “Rita the Savage” ended, the shy Jack Sax climbed onto the old stand that improvised as the stage. He opened his sax case and spread out some CD’sof his own production with the hope of selling a few. He began to play, nobody paid attention. Thecustomers talked, one could only hear some rich laughs, the noise of chairs and the clinking ofglasses. A spectator seated next to the stage gave hand signals not to play so loud because hecouldn’t hear a charming young lady seated on his knees whispering in his ear. Jack finishedhis fifth number, collected his CD’s, grabbed his sax, thanked the spectators with a sort of grimace, turned on his heels and when to try his luck at the club across the street.

When he was young, Juan Teruggi loved to help his grandmother, especially when she bakedcakes, in licking the batter covered spoon. He always knew that he would be a cook but not

just any cook; he would be a “Master Chef”. After two years of study at the most prestigiousculinary schools the day of his final exam arrived. The jury asked him to prepare…..a fried egg!Without showing the slightest surprise at such an unexpected request, adopting a professionalstyle and with the elegance of a classical dancer, he started to heat the olive oil and butter. Hecracked the egg, separated the whites which he began to cook. He added salt and pepper and aftera minute, with a magnificent and heroic movement of his hand, placed the yolk in the center. Twominutes later he pulled the frying pan from the fire, served the egg on a large plate of porcelain, decorated it with two branches of chive and lightly powered the edges with paprika to add a littlecolor. Spinning in a pirouette with an expression full of pride and with great reverence, presentedit to the members of the jury. Everything would have been a tremendous success if only the egghad not slide of the plate and landed at the feet of the jury.

“A good barbecue is hard to do!” explained Freddy to his two kids who listened mesmerized.“First, is to start the charcoal. Then the grill is heated so it can be easily cleaned.” The

kids, charmed by the master chef, listened attentively. “Then, gently place the pieces of meat andsausage on the grill. Finally, and this is the most important, patiently wait for the exact momentwhen the meat is perfectly cooked, and then….there is nothing left to do, but to enjoy yourself!”The cooking juices falling into the fire lets escape an irresistible smell of grilled meat. The guests, drawn by this magnificent aroma, approached to watch the show. From the murmurs ofadmiration coming from the audience, a voice arises and we hear “Bravo to the chef!” A smileof satisfaction appears on Freddy’s face, who, shrugging his shoulders as to minimize thesituation, says “I didn’t do much of anything…..really it’s nothing special!”

When we went to dinner at “La Truffe d'Argent”, a famous five-star restaurant, we sat at atable next to the magnificent bay window where you could see the Seine and the Notre

Dame Cathedral in their entire splendor. We peacefully contemplated the sunset which coveredParis with a faint red veil. Martin Ferney, the restaurant’s famed head waiter, explained themenu with such precision and detail that we congratulated him for his knowledge. “It's nothing,”he said, “I know by heart all the wines from our extensive wine cellar and all the secrets ofFrench gastronomy. Moreover, there is a dish that bears my name, the famous Homard breton àla Ferney. Several other restaurants have tried to lure me away by offering me a huge salary, but I've always refused ...” Lowering his voice and narrowing his eyes, he confessed, with somepride, “If I leave here, this restaurant would no longer exist; it would evaporate, since I am in away ... the living symbol of excellence when considering French restaurants.” In saying this, helifted his chin, turned on his heels and smugly eclipsed behind the bar.

At the hospital in Rosario, all the male staff suffered from stiff necks. The administrationdecided to look into the problem and discovered that the cause was the sensual swaying of

the hips of Doctor Evangelina Gonzalez. Her ample cleavage and tight dresses turned the headsof all the male staff, except Toni, the nurse, whose interest in the opposite sex was, well, anillusion. The administration suggested to Doctor Gonzalez that she calm things down a little, butEvangelina wouldn’t listen. So they decided to transfer her to another unit. Two weeks later, allthe cases of stiff neck disappeared, both doctors and patients. Because they all followedEvangelina. The only one who stayed was Toni.

Paquita Gutiérrez was scared to death of dentists. For the last few days she has been torturedby a tooth. At first, she was hoping that it would simply go away, then she tried all the pain

killers in the medicine cabinet. After 3 days, she went to see Carmen, her neighbor who didtalking therapy. After 5 days, and not being able to stand it anymore, she made an appointmentwith the eminent dentist, the doctor Salomon Mimran, whose reputation was the talk of Paris.Paquita, her jaw deformed by an enormous abscess, sat down in the dentist’s chair as if it werethe electric chair. “Octor, ‘is it goin to ‘urt?” asked Paquita, her words deformed by theinflammation. “No madam, you won’t feel a thing”, lied the doctor, “you are in good hands. Let’ssee, open up and we will look at this infected molar.” “Ehh … ’is alwedy open” said MadameGutiérrez. At the fourth shot, the anaesthesia began to take effect. She had the impression thather tongue was a piece of rag. She wanted to say something, but only could utter some gutturalsounds. The doctor thought that it was going to be easy, but when the second pair of pliers brokein his hands, he began to have his doubts. “Relax, everything is going fine” lied again the doctoras he put his foot on the left shoulder of his patient to gain better leverage. Paquita Gutiérrezregretted not having made her will. After 40 minutes of struggle, and after a super human effort, the doctor managed to extract the rebel tooth. With pride he studied it attentively and … beganto feel drops of sweat drip down the back of his neck. “Let’s see, open up …” said the doctor whoshuddered when he saw that the tooth he held in his pliers was a pre-molar in perfect health.

Sergeant Germán Echeverría wasn’t afraid of fire. As a child, he loved to light his father’scigarettes, he liked that so particular smell of sulphur which comes from just lit matches.

His mother always said, “Don’t play with fire or you are going to wet your bed”. In the fall, heamused himself by making bonfires with his friends and then by throwing handfuls of salt onthe flames, listening fascinated by the crackling of the salt. One night, after having burned allthe fallen leaves in his yard, he dreamed that he was near a large tree and suddenly he had ahorrible urge to pee which he did calmly and with great pleasure. The following morning, uponawaking, he made the most important decision of his life: from now on, he would combat firewithout pity. He went to firemen’s school and today he is the Fire Chief of his neighborhood firedepartment. Everyone knows him as the “The Match”.

Because of pride, Mauro Machado couldn’t tolerate his wife thinking that his washboardstomach of his youth was no longer the same. He decided that the best thing to do was to

At about 50 meters,he couldn’t believe it. He was alone in first place. Immensely satisfied, he felt like a gazelle. Atabout 100 meters, the first runners began to trot past him. At 500 meters, he was again alone… while he watched the other runners farther and farther in the distance. He never knew if itwas due to his mad rush at the beginning of the race or if because after 700 meters he hadalready emptied his two water bottles, but he felt a slight pain in his left side. After 800 meters, everything went by as if in slow motion. He seemed to be dreaming. He couldn’t feel his arms orlegs. He thought he was floating. It was like he was watching himself from above and he saw hisentire life pass before his eyes. A soft voice pulled him out of his trance. He realized he was onhis back and someone was pulling him. He wanted to stand up, but a hand stopped him. “But sir, stay calm! Stop pretending you are Carl Lewis! And now don’t move”, said the sport doctor as heapplied the oxygen mask.

“Bowleggs” Alfredo Pozzi, was an ace, a master at dribbling the ball. During the Richieri schoolmatches no one could stop him. We all envied him. One day he managed to dribble past two

huge brutes from sixth grade. Can you imagine that? He left them standing in their tracks. Agenius. And the touch of the ball that he had was … incredible. Last Sunday we had a match at the club. Listen-up,I’ll tell you what happened and it gives me goose bumps. Bowleggs Pozzi was playing number 10position, after about 15 minutes, it was a shame to watch him. For his first corner kick, I don’twhat happened, but, in fact, he wanted to kick the ball. He got ready, took a few steps and …made one of those magical kicks. If he had touched the ball, it would have been playable, but hisstomach caused him to lose balance and he took a huge swipe in the grass. This week, I triedcalling every day, but didn’t get an answer … I don’t know, he must have left on a trip.

The warm afternoon was perfect for a little game of petanque. Marcel Dupont prepared withcare a set of petanque balls; he spit shined them with a soft cloth to bring out their full luster.

He put the leash on Sandokan, the old family bulldog and they both went to the Bois de Boulognewhere he sat on a bench and waited for his friends. He began to doze off when a deep gasp madehim jump. He turned his head and saw a woman of a certain age, cute, well-dressed, wearing ahat which matched her outfit. She held a book close to her chest and with her eyes half closed, repeated “C’est l’amour, c’est l’amour”. When the romantic woman realized that she was beingobserved, she smiled nervously and began to bat her eyes while looking at Marcel from the cornerof her eye. Blushing, she opened her mouth slightly and let escape a long sigh. Marcel wrinkledhis brow, raised his eyes to the sky, shook his head from right to left, spit one more time on thepetanque balls and rubbed them with his shirt. He told himself his friends were really makinghim wait too long.
