    Foreshadowing is the technique of giving clues to coming events in a narrative.

    The above frame is from Jeff Smiths Bone. What clues does he give in this frame? What

    Foreshadowing creates interest and adds suspense.

    Red Herrings are clues that are deliberately false given by the author to sendthe readers or views off in the wrong direction.

    Flashback is an interruption of the action to present events that took place at an earliertime.

    A flashback can provide information that helps readers understand a characters current

    situation. Flashbacks usually occurring in one of two ways:

    1. retells events prior to the main narrative as if they took place at the same time asthe main narrative

    2. someone believes he or she is in a situation that occurred earlier in life
