Windows XP is Dead- Only in Microsoft’s Head Office

There are millions of Windows XP computers out there. The only reason to stop using Widows XP is that your computer is broken. Having said that, if you have all your updates that Microsoft has supplied up till April 8th the Windows XP is still a sound O/S. If you have only the original Win XP then you are going to need The Service Packs 1,2 & 3. Another way to extend Windows XP is to stay off line except to get emails or essential Software updates.

A number of Anti-Virus, Malware & firewall developers are still continuing to provide updates for Windows XP, some as far off as 2018. You will need to keep your other programs up to date, that way you’ll continue to get more out of windows XP for up to 4 years.

Recommendations: Bitdefender, Kaspersky Norton. Comodo, Avira & Mal-warebytes.

Backup your Driver software to an external source. Video card, Motherboard and Sound card.

Another tip next month.

CAN YOU HELP?....Yes you can! Volunteer Trainers needed to teach basic computer skills to the over 55’s. Sound basic experience is often enough to help real beginners. Improve your own knowledge whilst helping a fellow club member.

To enable our Volunteer Trainers to have uninterrupted les-son time with their students, we urgently require several

Office Assistants. Duties entail answering phones and dealing with “walk in” enquiries. Half day shift fine.

Minutes of May Monthly Meeting The meeting began at 2:00 PM with the President welcoming members and guests. Marie gave the apologies. The Secretary & Treasurer then presented their correspondence and monthly accounts. The President presented his talk on com-puter safety and Clubs new Android Pad then took questions. Full copy of Presi-dents report can be found at http://forestcomputerpals.org.au/community/presidents-reports/ 2014. Our Guest speaker Andrew Jennings spoke on Dropbox and other cloud storage: then took questions on Windows XP and should people get rid of it? He said “yes and move to Windows 7”. It was a very interesting afternoon and ran half an hour over, due to the high rate of interest.

Our Next Guest Speaker: June 26th Rod Duckworth Will be talking about “refurbished & reconditioned goods” and the history of them. Rod is always happy to take questions. All of Rod’s talks have been well attended. Be early for the best seats.

From the Desk. Hi Guys, This is something new; and what a way to Start. We are concerned at the alarming drop off in attendance at recent monthly meetings.

We now ask YOU, our members to please let us know what changes, content, or direction you expect in these ever changing times.

I’d appreciate any honest and open comments, feedback or criticism you care to make. We’re all in this together. By working together, we can only grow stronger. Please email me as soon as possible [email protected] PAMELA HUNT, Secretary.

Computer Problem I was having trouble with my comput-er. So I called Eric, the 11 year old next door, whose bedroom looks like mission control and asked him to come over. Eric clicked on a couple of buttons and solved the problem. As he walked away, I called after him: “So what was wrong?” He replied : “It was an ID ten T error”. I didn't want to appear stupid, so nonetheless enquired: an, “an ID ten T error”? What's that in case I need to do it again.” Eric grinned…”Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?” “No.” I replied. “Write it down,” he said “and I think you’ll figure it out”. So I wrote it down.

I used to like Eric: the little Nerd.

Start Planning for next one.

Remove Unwanted software How often have you installed soft-ware on you computer only to find that there is a whole lot of un-wanted crap to go with it. Well Now there is a solution and its called Unchecky: http://unchecky.com/

Install it and forget those unexpected add-ons. Have a look at the site and install this tiny app. Forget the annoying things you never wanted.

Nudity A little boy got lost at the YWCA and found himself in the women's locker room.

When he was spotted, the room burst into shrieks, with ladies grabbing towels and running for cover.

The little boy watched in amazement and then asked:

“What's the matter, haven't you ever seen a little boy before?”

ELDERLY

While working for an organisation that delivers lunches to elderly shut-ins, I used to take my 4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds.

She was unfailingly intrigued by the various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheel-chairs.

One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered: “The tooth fairy will never believe this!'“
