Hearts Beat Here!!

At Forest Park School Hearts Beat Here, is a way

to consider who we are together in this place. The

boys and girls have been exploring this idea in

order to develop a collective identity along with

the individual identities that each and every one

of us brings to our school every day. We are so

proud of the words and actions we have chosen so

far to develop a sense of belonging and working

together at Forest Park and beyond our walls into

the local and global communities we are all a part

of. Our living together will be rooted in a holistic

model of taking care of ourselves and others with

an emphasis on Healthy Hearts, Healthy Minds,

Healthy Bodies, and Healthy World. Below is just

a small sample of our thinking from a few of our

classroom conversations. BEAT HERE!!

We are problem solvers! We are Kind! We are incredible!

We are all one!

MANY THANKS!!

We want to thank our very special Parent Council

this school year for being so actively involved on

behalf of the beautiful children and staff working

together at Forest Park. We have had a number of

very successful hot lunches, thank you for being so

committed to us. Thanks also to all the parent vol-

unteers who have come out to work the hot lunch

dates, your helping hands are very much appreciat-

ed. Special Thanks goes out to Tara Miele for head-

ing up the hot lunch work this year!!!

Please consider joining our active Parent Council

this year, your voices are so important to us in the

Forest Park Community!

Farewell Mrs. Warrack

We wish Mrs. Warrack well as she

leaves our school in January to support

our bi-annual ARTS IN THE PARK

Seven Oaks Initiative. She will do a

beautiful job making sure the event is

another incredible success. We will miss

you and will see you again in September

2013. Mrs. Warrack’s replacement will

be announced in January.

Holiday Hampers

Each year as a school we gather food items for hampers we deliver to families in our community. We ask the children to partici-pate by bringing in non-perishable food items to their classrooms for the next two weeks. Please send in all items by Decem-ber 14

th, 2012. Thanks for your generosity at

this time of year! Special thanks to the Par-ent Council and school staff for supporting the hamper drive wholeheartedly!!

Congratulations to Mrs. Erickson

and Mrs. Kowalchuk’s grade one

children and their families for

their generous hearts. The cookie

sale was a hit and all proceeds will

go the Christmas Cheerboard!

BRAVO!!!!! They raised $250.00!

Forest Park welcomes our newest teacher to Room 12, Baby Asher. Baby Asher along with his parents Kirsten Marquadson and Aaron Sodomsky are For-est Park’s Roots of Empathy family for this year. Roots of Empathy is a program being delivered to classes throughout the world as a medium to focus awareness that the solution to bullying and other anti-social behaviour lies within each child’s innate sense of caring and compassion. By bringing ba-bies and children together, a compassionate and caring atmosphere is nurtured. Roots of Empathy lessons promote a loving environment that reduces aggression in students while increasing tolerance and emotional literacy. Students’ support of one another, involving a genuine concern for the well-being of others, is an inevitable outcome resulting from their interactions with their young “teacher”. We look forward to our lessons from Ba-by Asher as we head towards fostering social re-sponsibility in our community. Mrs. Kneller

NEWS FROM THE PHYS ED DEPARTMENT Lots of congratulations are in order this newsletter. First, congratulations to all our Cross-

Country runners who did such a wonderful job representing Forest Park School at the

Divisional Cross-Country Meet. The meet was held on a blustery October 3 at Little Mountain

Park. Students will have the opportunity to run again in May. The goal of Cross-Country is to

try to surpass your Fall time at the Spring Meet. Though all our students did an excellent job, I

would like to mention our top 10 finishers at each grade level.

Thank you to Mr. Galenda and Ms. Pogson for running our Cross-Country Club.

Our final tally for our Terry Fox Run was $400.17. The Terry Fox Foundation was very happy to

receive this donation. Thank you to all the parents and students for your generous

contributions.

Congratulations to the following grade 4 and 5 students who participated in the Divisional

Team Handball tournament on Saturday, November 17 and also did an excellent job

representing F.P. school.

A BIG “Thank you” to Mrs. Doerkson, Ms. Mangano and Mr. Galenda who also gave up their

Saturday to take a team to the tournament. Without staff willing to take a team on the

Saturday, we wouldn’t be able to enter teams!

A big “Thank You” to Mrs. Dech for supervising Grade 5 Intramural Team Handball and to Mrs. Marchenski

for supervising the Grade 3’s. (I supervised the Grade 4’s). Thank you also to Mr. Galenda who helped out

whenever needed!

Thank you also to all the Grade 5’s who gave up lunch hours in order to referee and score keep the

games for all grade levels. They did an excellent job and demonstrated excellent leadership skills.

Our next lunch time Intramurals will be floor hockey. It will be open to any grade 2, 3, 4 or 5 student who

wishes to participate and is willing to make a commitment to their team. It will begin shortly. Again,

Grade 5 students will have the opportunity to referee and score keep all the games.

And, just a reminder to students that gym clothes should be taken home to be washed regularly. They

need, however, to be returned the following day. Long hair needs to be tied back, and runners need to

be tied. If you are purchasing new runners for your child over the holidays, please refrain from pur-

chasing “skate shoes” (shoes with flat bottoms). These shoes are not suitable for participating in any

type of physical activity other than skateboarding.

Fall 2012

2012 Scholarship Recipients: The Start of Something Big

When a student is awarded a scholarship, it’s not only a recognition of effort and ability. It’s also a sign of confidence and encouragement.

Wherever students go after recieving a scholarship - whether the path leads to a career related to their award or someplace entirely different – scholarship recipients know they have a lot of people who believe in them. That, in turn, encourages them to believe in themselves.

Each name on the 2012 Seven Oaks School Division scholarship recipients list represents dedication, hard work and a drive to continually do their best. And who knows? You may see those names again in the news, talking about their latest and greatest accomplishment.

Because every scholarship is just a starting point.

“Graduation was a big achievement for me, but I have to say the scholarship was the cherry on my cake. I will always be thankful and appreciative.” - Dominic

SAVE THE DATE! Our annual SOEF “Spud, Steak, and Beverage” fundraiser will be held at Canad Inns Garden City, on February 8, 2013 from 5-8pm.
