Text 1: Listen to John talking about his new job.

Hi! I’m John. I have just started a new job. I used to work in a bank but now I am working in a

travel agency. I work from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday. As soon as I get to work, I make

myself a cup of tea and then switch on my computer. The office is in the centre of the town and we

are always very busy. Many people come to the agency to book a holiday. I really love helping

people plan their holidays. Some people have no idea where to go, while others already know where

they want to go. The travel agency offers holidays for everybody: skiing for those who like sport,

weekend breaks and cruises for those who want to relax.

I have made lots of friends. My best friends are Tom and Caroline. They have helped me a lot,

showing me how to book hotels and flights. During break we go out together. Usually, we go to a

cafeteria and order sandwiches or salads. At the weekend, the travel agency is closed and I usually

spend my time doing some errands or cleaning up my flat.

Text 2: Listen to an announcement during assembly.

Good morning! Next Friday is Open Day at our school. At the entrance there is going to be a stall

selling fresh flowers and plants, while in the school hall we are going to have a bazaar selling new

and secondhand things. The football ground will be open for all those who want to play football or

watch the games. The school tuck shop will also be open and you can buy water, fruit juices and

salads. If you have not yet bought a ticket for the lottery, this is your last chance. Tickets cost 50c

each and the first prize is a dinner set, the second prize is a hamper, while the third prize is a

voucher of €50 worth of books. Gates open at 8.30am and close at 2.30pm.
