Formative Assessment Practices – a deliberate process used by teachers and students during

instruction that provides actionable feedback that is used to adjust ongoing teaching and learning

strategies to improve students’ attainment of curricular learning targets/goals.

The Digital Library is designed to support classroom-based formative assessment processes in

ELA and math.

Supports educators with the four attributes of formative assessment learning: (1) Clarify

Intended Learning; (2) Elicit Evidence; (3) Interpret Evidence; and (4) Act on Evidence.

The Digital Library provides subject- and grade-specific resources that help K-12 educators apply

the formative assessment process during daily instruction.

The library has collaboration features that allow users to rate materials and share their expertise

with educators across the country.

What it is not… A bank of assessment items, a learning management system in which educators

can receive credit by completing online courses, a library for the general public, or a site to

freely post resources.

How do teachers get access to the Digital Library?

Access to the Digital Library requires a username and password

To create user accounts, the LEA CAASPP Coordinator must upload Digital Library users at once

by using a predefined file template. The file has been prepared as of Oct 19, 2014, and contains

over 3,500 records. The file is comprised of school leaders and teachers for the entire district.

School leaders were assigned user roles for provisioning the Digital Library that will allow them

to Add/Edit/Delete users as needed in the future. Therefore, it will not be necessary for the LEA

CAASPP Coordinator to upload additional files as educators change roles and locations in the

district.

Once the file is uploaded, it will take approximately one week for the validation process to

complete. Once validation is complete, then users will receive an email from Smarter Balanced

with a username and temporary password. See example below.
