TRANSCRIPT
Semester One student reports will be distributed to parents on Friday 5 July, the last week of this term. This report summarises your child’s achievement, attitude, behaviour and effort. Learning area achievement indicates how your child is developing their knowledge, skills, understanding and values as outlined in the Western Australian Curriculum. Overall learning grades may change from year to year, and semester to semester, and previous achievement does not influence future achievement. It is not uncommon for students to move up or down on the achievement scale. As students’ progress through school years the knowledge and skills they are required to master become more difficult. A learning area achievement of “C” for Year 3 – 6 students and “Satisfactory” for Pre-primary to Year 2 students indicates a child is demonstrating satisfactory achievement of what is expected for their year level at that time. Any achievement of “D” or “Limited” and below indicates that your child is not achieving the expected standard. It is important that as a parent you read the comments from the classroom teacher as these outline what your child can do and where they can improve. If you are unsure about anything contained in your child’s report it is important that you organise a meeting with their teacher. Lightning Carnival Well done to all students who participated in the Lightning Carnival at Mundijong Primary on 21 June. Students put in a huge effort training for this event, and it certainly paid off with Forrestdale PS taking out the trophies for 1st place in Netball and Soccer, 2nd place in Football and overall champion School. Well done to students, staff and parent volunteers. Pre Service Teacher Congratulations to Miss Katie Butterfield who has successfully completed an outstanding 2 terms of teaching practice in Room 3 under the guidance of Mr Sullivan. Katie has fitted into our school community very well and has certainly worked over and above what is expected. Lost Property There is a huge amount of lost property at the school. If you are missing any jackets or jumpers, please come to the undercover area where it will be laid out on display. Anything that is not school uniform and has no name will be bagged up for donation to Salvation Army.

Talent Show Assembly With the end of the term fast approaching, we can look forward to the Talent Show next week. This is always a fantastic opportunity for our students to get up on stage and show their individual talents. We invite all parents and family to come along to this assembly at 2 pm in the undercover area on Thursday 4 July. Recognition I would also like to thank the P & C for the huge effort they put into organising the Colour Blast. The run was a great success and could not have happened without hours of preparation and donations by parents and the P & C. All funds raised go directly to assist your children in the classroom. We look forward to this being an annual event. Term 3 2019 Congratulations to Mr Ash Vagh who has accepted the acting role of Principal at Serpentine PS for Term 3. This is a great opportunity for Ash to build on his leadership experience by gaining invaluable knowledge and skills which will only benefit Forrestdale PS upon his return. Mr Sullivan will be replacing Mr Vagh as the Deputy Principal and Miss Katie Butterfield will be replacing Mr Sullivan as the class teacher for Room 3. Mr Melville will be full time in Room 4 and Mrs Fletcher will be returning from maternity leave and replacing Mr Melville's Friday in Room 6. Mrs Thompson will be continuing Indonesian on Tuesday, and Friday in Room 8 and assisting Mrs Cullen with our intervention program.
A final best wishes to all our students, families and friends as we approach school holidays. Please have a wonderful, well deserved, break spent with loved ones. We look forward to seeing everyone rested and healthy for the start of Term 3.

Dear Parents/Caregivers, Cross Country and Lightning Carnival I would like to take this opportunity thank all the staff, students and volunteers who made our Cross country and Lightning Carnival events a great success. The cross country was our first whole school event this year and all students are to be commended for their hard work as they attended early morning training sessions. This significant event always promotes a great school culture across the school and to watch our senior students encourage all our runners on the day is a pleasure to witness. In relation to the Lightning Carnival, Forrestdale PS students and staff represented our school with great pride, as was the feedback from our competing schools. I couldn’t be more proud of our students and coaches for their efforts during training and competition times. WELL DONE FORRESTDALE this is a great achievement as a school to win the overall trophy. In-term Swimming Thank you to all the parents who managed to hand in their enrolment forms into the front office before and by the due date. It is important that the office receives this information so that the swimming coordinators can organise lessons and groups etc. Please try your best to put names on student jumpers and/or clothing so that they can be returned to students. Our lost property boxes are becoming overwhelmed with the amount of jumpers and garment collected. If you have lost any jumpers or items of clothing, we will provide opportunities afterschool for parents to view in the under covered area in the last week. Miss Katie Butterfield A big congratulations to Miss Katie Butterfield who has completed her final practicum with the students in room 3. Your work this term has been no short of outstanding in relation to how much you have grown as a young educator and the skills you have gained in doing so. Thank you for all your support with the lightning carnival and cross country, I wish you the best of luck with your teaching career and future endeavours. Thank you for a great term and I wish you all a safe and happy winter break.

What’s been happening at
Forrestdale Primary !!
EC1 P&C Colour Run Fundraiser On Wednesday 19th June, the Pre-Primary students enjoyed being a part of the P&C Fundraiser Colour Run. All
Pre-Primary Children who attended school on that day participated in the fun run.
Then on Friday for our class cooking activity we made Colour Run Cupcakes, with rainbow food colouring in the batter and iced them with white icing like our tea shirts, then sprinkled 100’s and 1000’s on top.
We really enjoyed the Colour Run activities.

We have been loving using our whiteboards in kindy this term!
We have started using them as a
whole class and are learning to "chin it" (show what we wrote by holding
it to our chin) and "bin it" (wipe it off ready for the next instruction) and
are really enjoying engaging with this new way of learning. We also love having our whiteboards out during
play time to draw and create on them.
Room 3
It has been an eventful few weeks in Room Three! Although it has been busy with; the food
sensations incursion, cross-country, the colour run, the lightning carnival and swimming
lessons to name a few, we have still been working hard in class!
We have recently completed our research projects. We were given freedom and were able to
research any topic we wanted. We were then required to compile our research and present our
research (including pictures) on some A2 paper. We now have our research posters
displayed in the classroom with topics ranging from horses and cat breeds to Subnautica and
Minecraft. The posters have certainly brightened our room!
Mr Sullivan, Miss Butterfield and the students in Room Three
Room 4
Room 4 has been busy towards
the end of this term. We were
lucky enough to participate in
our school Scitech excursion,
focusing on the solar system,
our seasons and emergency
services. Every student
thoroughly enjoyed the hands
on learning environment that
Scitech delivers. We have also
had our school inter faction
cross country carnival; where
all Room 4 students did a
fantastic job. Well done to
Davina and Tyler who won
their respective races. In maths
we have been focusing on
multiplication and division and
each student has enjoyed using
their own individual
whiteboards to demonstrate
their working our skills. Well
done to everyone in Room 4.
Mr Melville
Room 6
In Art, we have been investigating patterns and colours in
Australian animals.
We have used paper collage to decorate our animals.
This is also related to number patterns being investigated in Mathematics.
Mr Knox and the Students in Room 6
Indonesian
Hello Forrestdale families,
We are still working hard in Indonesian to consolidate our learning and have recently been creating some games to be used in the
classroom. Soon, the students will be able to use their bingo boards and memory cards to share fun times with each other and practice
their subject related words. Although the Pre primaries, Year 1s and Year 2s do not currently learn Indonesian, the love and passion for
this language is being shared with them, either through my brief encounters with them or from their siblings or friends in the older
years. This brings me a lot of joy because they are being included in creating a new culture in the school of appreciation for the
anguages and they LOVE saying good day - selamat Siang and asking how are you -apa kabar? They can respond with a positive or
negative response and say see you later - Sampai jumpa! Hopefully the opportunity will arise to partner up with some younger buddies
and play our games with them!

Recorder Ensemble
I have been trying to spread the musical bug amongst all students in the school. They all get great classroom
music lessons with Ms Cullen every week and I’ve been enjoying sharing my love of playing an instrument on
top of this! I have been bringing in some of my instruments from home to share with the students and they really
enjoy experimenting with them! Some students have had the opportunity to learn to play some recorder with me
on a Friday afternoon and they are thoroughly enjoying it and becoming very good at it! They can play hot cross
buns and Mary had a little lamb, and we will learn twinkle twinkle little star soon.
Along with our recorder ensemble, Allyson from room 6 has discovered a passion for flute and is beginning to get
consistent sounds out of her instrument and will soon be playing tunes. Her determination is admirable and she is
so happy to be learning to play!

Room 7 In Room 7 the year 1 students have
become masters of oral hygiene after completing our Tooth Defenders
Health unit. The visiting Dentists have been super impressed with the level of
care these students have placed on their teeth.
Important health messages were integrated in their colourful posters to remind everyone how to care for their teeth now and in the future. Check out
our pearly white smiles!!!!

Room 5
This term Room Five have been working on some
very challenging tasks. One of the most challenging
tasks has been the iMaths projects! The year fours
project was called “Aussie Adventure” and the year
fives was called “Race around Australia”.
Year fours had to complete a project that required
students to research and map famous Australian
landmarks and what towns they were located in. Some
of these landmarks were the ‘Twelve Apostles’, ‘The
Big Golden Guitar’ and ‘Monkey Mia’. They then
had to find the total distance they would have to travel
if they were to visit all these places and pick where
they would visit first.
The year fives had to do a project that required them
to locate and map Australia’s capital cities and find
the quickest route to visit all the cities starting from
Perth! This required a lot of research and a lot of peer
discussion. Each student had to research flight
duration of each rout and use a lot of trial and error to
find the quickest way.
It was a difficult task and required a lot of knowledge
from different learning areas. Room Five are
definitely proud of their success.
Miss Webb and the Students in Room 5
The Silver Threads Brass Band returned to our school this year on Friday 20 June to entertain the whole school for an hour with their fun, interactive show.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the performance and Ms Cullen was very impressed with their outstanding
musicianship and the message that making music is fun and can last a lifetime.
Ms Cullen
Fire Safety in Room 4
On Monday 10 June Room 4 had two firefighters from Armadale Fire Station—D Platoon come and talk to us about
fire safety in the home.
The topics included the role of a firefighter, learning how to prevent a fire emergency from happening, how you should respond to a beeping smoke alarm, calling the emergency
services, crawling low under smoke and making a home fire escape plan. Unfortunately the firefighter’s got called away to
an emergency so we didn't get to see the fire truck, but we learnt a lot and very much enjoyed the incursion.
