 Summer Reading Guidelines 

● Summer Reading 2019 is scheduled to run June 7- July 27. ● All Summer Reading programs are FREE and open to the public, but some require registration or 

participation release waivers. All participation release waivers for children will need to be signed by the child’s parent or legal guardian.  

● Please call the library branch location of the event wish to attend for more information and to register.

1. Go to www.forsythlibrary.org 2. Click the Events tab  3. Select Summer Reading 4. At the top right corner, click Register  5. Fill out the registration form and submit  

 Why Should You Read This Summer? Log your reading times and get entered into a drawing! Thanks to our Friends of the Library organizations and Bookmarks for donating gift card prizes this year. All locations will host drawings for prizes on August 9, 2019. Be sure to register by reading 480 minutes (children) or by reading 3 titles (teens and adults). To be included in the drawings, all paper and online reading logs must be completed and turned in by Saturday, July 27, 2019. Complete multiple reading logs and enter as many times as you like.  FEATURED TEEN PROGRAMS Programs open to teens ages 12-17 unless otherwise stated. For more information, please call your local branch library.  SPACE EXPLORATION To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon, the Forsyth County Public Library will be hosting NASA Solar System Ambassadors to bring exciting programs for teens. Registration is required for these programs. To register, contact the library branch of the event you plan to attend.  The Epic Journey of Apollo 11 - NASA Ambassador, Mike Lucas, will give an interactive presentation on the first lunar landing mission. Using models, he will discuss the lift off, voyage, landing, and astronauts' visit to the lunar surface. Registration required. 

June 18 at 4 p.m. - Paddison Memorial Branch Library at Kernersville June 19 at 3 p.m. - Central Library (Teen Central) July 24 at 3 p.m. - Walkertown Branch Library  

A Journey Through the Cosmos - NASA Ambassador, Mike Lucas, will give a tour of the universe, from the sun and its planets, through our home galaxy to some of the most distant objects ever found. Registration required. 

June 26 at 3 p.m. - Walkertown Branch Library  Our Moon - NASA Ambassador, Mike Lucas, will give an interactive presentation on how the moon was formed, the nature of its orbit of the Earth, the various phases of the moon, and other interesting lunar facts. Registration required. 

July 23 at 3 p.m. - Central Library (Teen Central)  The Perilous Journey of Apollo 13 - NASA Ambassador, Mike Lucas, will give a presentation on the 1970 lunar mission, which suffered an explosion that disabled the ship, and left the astronauts and mission control with the task of getting the men home safely. Registration required. 

June 15 at 2 p.m. - Reynolda Manor Branch Library  To the Moon and Beyond - Go on an interactive journey to the moon, build a space colony and get ready to launch for Mars with NASA Ambassador, Annette Horsley. Registration required. 

June 19 at 4 p.m.-Rural Hall Branch Library  Wake Forest Museum of Anthropology: American Indian Astronomy- The sun, moon and stars have great importance to American Indians. Using objects from the collection, learn how different Plains tribes relied on celestial bodies every day. Teens will also use native symbols and a variety of materials to decorate a pouch. This program is for ages 12-17 and registration is required. To register, call the library location of the event you with to attend.

For more information, please call your local branch library.  Joint Teen Lock-in with Clemmons and Lewisville Branch Libraries- Eat pizza, play space-themed games, and make alien slime from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Lewisville Branch Library. Registration and parental-permission slip are required by Thursday, July 25 at 6 p.m. at either the Clemmons or Lewisville Branch Libraries. Program is for rising 6-12 graders and science fiction/space-in-spired costumes are welcome. Please contact either the Clemmons or Lewisville Branch Libraries for more information.
