Parents of school children have 55 weekdays this summer

to keep their kids time occupied with meaningful activities

during the summer break. So, here are 55 things in and

near Fort Bend County we found that may just do the trick,

like events of a “staycation.” Some of them are free and

others are fee associated including camps and activities, but for the most

part, reasonably priced and intended to make for will be known as the

memorable summer of 2011. Information listed below may be updated,

and we recommend that you visit available websites.

R esearch studies have consistently shown that students from preschool through high school average at least two months of academic loss over summer recess. Studies have also shown that by participating in well-

planned summer programs, achievement loss does not occur. In fact based on the quality of the program, many students actually experience academic achievement over the summer.

The summer program at Sienna Montessori School is designed to elevate student achievement motivation. Emphasis is placed on accelerating the summer campers’ learning and development; raising their levels of achievement motivation, skill development and school enjoyment; and encouraging parents to be more directly involved in their children’s education.

Objectives are achieved through activities and projects that will involve students in health and physical fitness via SPARK( Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids). Each session highlights a different sport that includes soccer, Frisbee, basketball, track and field, softball, wall ball/handball and hockey.

Each week the National STEM( Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program includes earth, space, life and physical science as well as concepts in technology and engineering.

Campers will also learn the world cultures. In July they will all participate in The Rockin’ Tale of Snow White Children’s Musical Play.

Call (281) 778-2223 to inquire or visit www.siennamontessori.com to view our entire summer and year-round programs.
