TEAMS defined...

(STEM + Arts) x Collaboration = TEAMS

Think like a Technologist = Select Tools

Think like an Engineer = Design Process

Think like an Artist = Creative Expression

Think like Mathematician = Critical Thinking

Think like a Scientist = Questioning

Cyber T.E.A.M.S.Department Of Defense Education Agency Grant -2011

STEM learning, as broadly defined by the CYBER-TEAMS initiative, means more than memorizing scientific facts or learning mathematical processes. STEM learning is a mindset; an educational philosophy for how students approach challenges with curiosity and solve them with rigor. We embrace the STEM to STEAM movement. Integrating art and design brings beauty, meaning, and inspiration to traditional STEM fields. The letters in STEAM have been rearranged to form “TEAMS,” because teamwork is vital to professional success today.

We believe that student collaboration at the earliest grade levels is essential for all students to benefit from CYBER-TEAMS.

We believe that teacher professional development should be designed to spark threshold moments in students’ lives.

We believe that student learning should be directly relevant to 21st Century living and career success.

Physical Science Lesson

First Grade Study about Sound

Students were challenged to find the loudest or quietest area in our school. Groups walked around the building carrying iPads. Using the Decibel 10th, students collected data. Once we had walked around the building, we gathered back in the lab and arranged the data in a chart to discover the decibel differences. Graphs were created to compare the data.
