Nelson fans season-best nine in five inningsSince entering the rotation at the end of May, Cole Nelson has been wracking up the strikeouts. Picking up his first win on June 6, Nelson set an individual season-high for Miracle pitchers with nine Ks in five shutout innings. Nelson has 14 strikeouts in nine innings since joining the rotation.

Gonzales’ improvement flying under the radarAfter hitting .175 in the month of April, Michael Gonzales has been gradually improving his play at the plate in his first year in the Florida State League. During May, Gonzales hit .267, improving his average 92 points, with two homeruns and nine RBI.

In his last 10 games, Gonzales has been red hot with 12 hits in his last 31 at-bats; a .387 clip. The 6-6, 270-pound first baseman has scored nine runs over that span with two homers, four doubles, five runs batted in and seven walks. To start June, Gonzales is 7-for-16 (.438) and his overall batting aver-age is at a season best .245.

Thou shalt not steal... and we shall not eitherThe Fort Myers catchers and defense has been effective taking down would-be base stealers from Florida State League opponents. In 67 attempts versus Miracle catchers, opposing teams have swiped just 37 bases with Fort Myers cutting down 44.8 percent of attempts; first in the league.

All-Star Josmil Pinto has been particularly deadly with 14-of-26 would-be base stealers cut down. Dan Rohlfing has cut down a respectable 40 percent (16-of-40 caught). With help from his strong defensive play, Rohlfing has been called up to the New Britain Rock Cats (AA).

Stealing bases on the offensive side of the ball has not been part of the arse-nal for the Miracle in 2012. Even with good speed options like Daniel Santa-na, Danny Ortiz, and Angel Morales, Fort Myers has attempted a league-low 41 stolen bases in 61 games. The Miracle are last in the Florida State League with only 22 stolen bases with the next lowest total Clearwater’s 37.

Levi Michaels extended slump coming to an endThe Minnesota Twins first round pick in 2011, Levi Michael, appears to be busting a slump that began on May 5. In a span of 20 games until May 26, Michael hit just .169 (12-for-71).

After a few days off, Michael returned to the lineup on May 29 and has began to swing the bat with some success. In his last 10 games, Levi is 10-for-37 (.270) with seven runs scored and another seven driven in.

Miracle welcome Kyle Knudson to Fort MyersWith Dan Rohlfing being called up to New Britain (AA) on June 12, the Mir-acle add 24-year old catcher Kyle Knudson. Joining the Miracle from Beloit, Knudsen was hitting .250 with one homerun and nine RBI in 18 games in the Midwest League. He played collegiately at the University of Minnesota.
