CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTERS The Army provides care in a Multi-Age group setting. Each classroom enrolls children with a minimum age span of 18 months. The concept of the Multi-Age classroom is to provide a Family style environment where the children learn from and nurture each other. Children experience fewer transitions while in the Multi-Age child care setting, giving them more time to bond with their primary caregiver. Children also benefit widely from interacting with classmates who are older and younger, learning important principles of citizenship, relationships, respect, patience, and self-esteem. Utilizing a creative curriculum, our approach balances both teacher-directed and child-initiated learning, with an emphasison responding to children’s learning styles and building on their strengths and interests.

HEARTS APART It is inevitable that throughout a Service Member’s career one will be separated from their Families. In some cases, Families choose to move to areas closer to Family and friends. Others, however, decide to remain in housing or stay in the immediate area until the service member completes his/her unaccompanied tour. Regardless of the circumstance, these types of separations can become quite overwhelming, particularly because Families are left behind without the support network and regular contact that a unit Family Readiness Group (FRG) would otherwise provide. To respond to the needs of our Families, Army Community Service has established the Hearts Apart program. “Hearts Apart” is a Support Group for Waiting Spouses. This program offers various activities for those that have a Service Member deployed, is TDY or serving on any type of Unaccompanied Tour. It provides the opportunity to share common concerns, ask questions, as well as participate in social activities. If you would like to learn more about the “Hearts Apart” program, call 785-239-9435.

Custer Hill Golf Course is in full swing for the 2012 Golf Season. We have many new programs available for the golfing community, such as 9-hole rates, and rates for 3-holes, and 6-hole rates for those beginners and inexperienced golfers. We will be hosting many clinics and golf lessons this summer for golfers of all ages. We offer a wide variety of clubs for new golfers to the more experienced golfer. Our PGA trained staff can help you with your lesson needs, or help you pick the right set of clubs for you. We also can help you with your special functions and events out on the golf course.

You may have noticed some changes out on the golf course this spring. We have been making these changes to make your golfing experience at Custer Hill Golf Course more satisfying. We have added new rental clubs and benches out on the golf course. The Tee Boxes on Holes 1, 9, 10, and 18 are in the process of being replaced with Zoysia Grass and leveled out. We are also working on placing water fountains out on the golf course in the shelters of Holes 4, 7, 13, and 16. Lastly, around the driving range, we are adding a concrete strip and driving range mats for players to hit off of during the winter time, and adding a short game practice area. This practice area will feature a chipping green and a sand bunker for you to practice out of.

In the Pro Shop, we can custom fit you into the set of clubs you need, or help determine the club that is right for you. We have all of the top brands to include Titleist, Nike Golf, Callaway, Cleveland, Cobra, and Taylor Made. Not looking for clubs, but gifts for friends, then check out our line of shirts, hats, and other trinkets that are in our Pro Shop.

The Custer Hill Golf Course, located on Historic Fort Riley’s Custer Hill, is a Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design. It offers challenges from tee to green on every hole for all level of golfers. The course is an 18-hole championship course that plays over 7,072 yards from the tips.

The Custer Hill Golf Course Snack Bar has your lunchtime favorites, whether it is the old standby of hamburgers or cheeseburgers, Philly chicken or steak sandwiches. Looking for some German cuisine? Try one of our famous Schnitzel sandwiches. Want a healthier fare? Have one of our sandwiches, wraps, or salads. If you are looking for small group events, our Snack Bar can hold your small parties.

Golf outings are a way of getting away from work and having some fun. Use them as team building exercises or even Hail and Farewells. Let our staff help you with your needs. We have 9-hole and 18-hole packages that can fit any need. Golf package pricing ranges anywhere from $15 to $39 and includes greens fees, golf carts, range balls, and food.
