Fort Valley State University is one of the
economic engines bolstering the Middle
Georgia communities, according to an
economic impact study commissioned by
the University System of Georgia.
The report entitled, “The Economic Impact of
University System of Georgia Institutions on
their Regional Economies in FY 2012”
analyzed the financial impact of the USG’s 31-
member institutions on their host
communities. Economists discovered that
FVSU had a combined economic impact of
$157.2 million and generated more than
1,877 jobs. Areas involved in the study were
Peach, Houston, Bibb, Crawford, Macon and
Taylor counties. The total economic impact for
the USG was $14.1 billion.

Founded in 1895 as Fort Valley High and Industrial School, Fort Valley State University is one of Georgia’s two land-grant

programs. the campus’ dual-enrollment program, University today Scholars, helps high school students earn college
credit while working toward their diploma.
the Cooperative Developmental energy Program (CDeP) is the nation’s only program that prepares minorities and
women to pursue energy-related disciplines. CDeP offers dual degree SteM partnerships with Georgia Institute of
technology, Penn State University, University of arkansas, University of nevada at Las Vegas and University of texas
at austin. as a result of these collaborations, the program graduates engineers, geoscientists, and health physicists.
the campus also maintains a host of academically challenging and leadership-building opportunities, including
science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs, Reserve Officers' training Corps (ROtC) and internships.
the Retention Services Center is also available to provide students with study tips, tutorials and time management
skills to enhance their scholastic abilities. FVSU offers support for adult and military students.
In athletics, FVSU is a leading contender in the Southern Intercollegiate athletic Conference and the national
Collegiate athletic association Division II in both men’s and women’s athletic programs. Wildcat football,
basketball, tennis, track, volleyball, cross country track and softball are among the 11 sports offered.
