During the last 40 years, Malaysia has faced rise and fall in economy performance. We can see that Malaysia keep on developed year by year based on Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Even though Malaysia faced economic crisis in 1973-1975, 1985-1986, 1997-1998 and 2008- 2009, Malaysia still a well-known middle-income category of countries since the 1990s. There are many ways that the government did to overcome the crisis as well as developing the countries. Malaysian government has launched the New Economic Model (NEM) and the Economic Transformation Program (ETP) in 2010 to revive the economic growth and structural change into higher value-added activities. In my opinion, Malaysian government always finds a way to develop the country through many policies. With this effort, we can now see that Malaysia keeps on developed with the distribution of many factors such as economic activities and expenditure. After Malaysia achieved independence on 1957, the economic sectors keep on expanding from agriculture to other sector such as mining, manufacturing, construction, services, electricity, gas and water. Throughout this 40 years, all the sectors continued to expand where it increase the GDP. Unfortunately, the agriculture sector keeps on falling even though Malaysia rich with a lot of plants to be marketed in and out of the country. If the Malaysian government is given the opportunity to the agriculture sector to rise, it is a successful attempt for Malaysia to become a developed country in 2020 As well as the increase of GDP, the consumer price index also increased in the last 40 years. This is happened because the Malaysian government is giving the opportunity to the people to expense. It helped the country to increase the economy performances year by year. However, Malaysia still can control the inflation rate. Early 1980s, the inflation rate is above 4% but after 1983, the inflation rate kept decreasing and still under control until today. On the other hand, GDP per capita is also an important role which it influence the performances of the country. The Malaysian government has to put an effort to increase the GDP per capita in order to be a developed country. To achieve the title of developed country in 2020, there are lots of effort and policies that have to be done by the government.

Compared to the developed country such as USA, Malaysia has a lot to prepare to become a developed country in 2020 as in Vision 2020. With all the policies either it is long-term, middle-term or short-term planning, Malaysia will achieved the title as one of developed country in 2020.
