FORUM 2020: JOURNEY
TO COMPASS 2032 FEBRUARY 2020
1
INTRODUCTION The World Conference is a unique opportunity for networking and sharing. Forum creates exciting spaces
during the Conference programme to learn from other delegations, share innovative ideas, and collaborate
on common challenges.
Forum 2020 is made up of five main activities that everyone can take part in: Global Hub, Workshops,
Wide Game, Idea Labs and Networking Sessions. All activities will respond to the Forum theme: Compass
2032.
Forum 2020 will explore Compass 2032 through four pathways.
Read on for more information on the theme and each Forum activity and how you can get involved.
We hope that most Forum activities will be led by delegates representing their Member Organisations,
so we can create the Forum together and learn from many different experiences of delivering, and
strengthening, Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting.

ABOUT THE FORUM THEME
1. DEVELOPING CONFIDENT GIRLS AND YOUNG WOMEN
How can we shape the Girl Guide and Girl Scout experience so it truly enables all girls to build their
self-confidence and self-esteem in a complex, changing world, and creates the space they need to
practise the WAGGGS leadership mindsets and take the lead in their own lives?
Topic examples:
Future trends and impact on girls
Modernising the programme for teenagers
Applying the WAGGGS leadership mode
2. CREATING A WORLD-WIDE COMMUNITY FOR ALL GIRLS, BY GIRLS
Feeling a sense of belonging to a global movement can be the most special and empowering part of
being a Girl Guide or Girl Scout. How can we make this experience more meaningful and accessible to
all WAGGGS member? And how can we ensure every and any girl can feel like she belongs?
Topic examples:
How to support girls to have international experiences
Diversity and inclusion, Guiding in new communities
Growing the Movement – new delivery models for Guiding
. TAKING ACTION FOR OUR WORLD
By practising their agency through Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting, girls learn they can have a positive
impact on the world around them, and that their voices and actions count in building an equal and
sustainable world. How can we use the power of non-formal education to enable girls to translate
their learning into action? And how can we make sure we create space for girls to practise leadership
and speak out for gender equality?
Topic examples
How non-formal education contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals
How to facilitate girl-led advocacy campaigns
21st century skills and active global citizenship
4. ACTIVATED BY VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers power the Movement. We rely on volunteers who practise empowering leadership and
who have the skills and values they need to be positive role models and catalysts at every level of their
organisations. In turn, volunteers deserve an enriching experience and need flexible opportunities that
take their lives into account. How must our volunteering models adapt to the 21st century? What
strategies are effective in recruiting, developing and managing volunteers?

Topic examples:
Promoting volunteerism in society
Supporting the volunteer life cycle
Intergenerational leadership

GLOBAL HUB
The Global Hub is a physical space that will be available throughout the conference to support networking
and sharing. Visit the Global Hub for informal meetings, to learn about other MOs’ activities, and find out
more about WAGGGS programmes and work on non-formal education, leadership and capacity building.
How o con ribu e
All delegations can share their MO’s research, projects or ideas at the Global Hub through table-top or
poster displays and interactive exhibits. Just let us know if you would like to request a space.
Please also bring:
Information on any international events planned in your MO for adding to our global calendar
Copies of any resources you would be interested to share with WAGGGS and other MOs
WORKSHOPS
On Thursday 16 July 2020 we will explore Compass 2032 together through 16 workshops. Each
workshop will last 90 minutes, have 50 - 100 participants, and be facilitated using our non-formal
educational method so all attendees can participate fully and actively. Attendees will be able to register
for workshops in advance.
How o con ribu e
Reflect on the Forum theme and consider how your Member Organisation is best working towards it
through innovative projects, programme offers or change processes, and use this to propose a workshop
that your delegates attending the conference would be able to facilitate. We will select the 16 workshops
that make the most innovative contributions to Compass 2032 and where the delivery methods used best
demonstrate our educational method in action. If your workshop is selected we will get in touch to help
you prepare for the Forum.
Session proposals for workshops should include the session title and a brief description of the topic,
including how it relates to Compass 2032, and the specific learning outcomes. Please also note what
languages you are able to facilitate the workshop in (Arabic, English, French or Spanish).
LEADING FOR HER WORLD WIDE GAME
This half day activity will be a chance for all attendees to have fun together and celebrate the official
launch of the WAGGGS leadership offer! We will be looking for delegates with lots of experience
designing and running wide games to make this happen. If any members of your delegation love running
large scale games and challenges, and would be interested to help create this, please get in touch.
Look out for other opportunities to lead for her world throughout the conference…
IDEA LABS
Do you have a great idea that you want to share, a programme or project you want to profile, or a
conversation you really want to explore with delegates from around the world? Visit the Idea Labs! Idea
Labs will take place in parallel with Forum workshops and will give attendees the chance to move freely
between different labs and explore 3 or 4 ideas in the time they would have spent in one workshop.
How o con ribu e
Reflect on the Forum theme and, if you have a great idea that relates to the Forum theme and could be
usefully explored in 20-30 minutes with a small group, please submit an Idea Lab proposal. This could
include poster presentations. Labs are great for sharing research or projects with others, playing with new
programmes or tools, or opening up an interesting conversation. You can submit more than one proposal
for Idea Labs.
NETWORKING SESSIONS
There will be space for Member Organisations to book and lead gatherings and networking meetings with other
organisations working in similar contexts, or to explore shared needs and concerns. These will run mainly in parallel
with the Forum workshops and must be booked in advance.
How o con ribu e
If your delegation would like to host a networking meeting, please identify who from your delegation will organise
the meeting and submit your request.
