If you have never celebrated communion here at Smithville Brethren Church, we invite you to come to our orientation thirty minutes prior to the service. Child care is provided for the evening.

Operation Christmas Child! Get Your Shoe Boxes Now!!

Our Shoebox emphasis Sunday will be October 13 when Rex McConahay will be sharing the morning message - “Pack and Go,” Go ahead and grab several boxes to fill. In each box you should find a bar of soap, a washcloth, packing/gift in-structions, a prayer bookmark guide, and two rubber bands to put around the boxes when you return them full. If you prefer to not pack a box, you may purchase as many items as you want and place them in the box beside the display table. The last day to return your packed boxes and extra items will be November 17. Pack your boxes with prayers!

In 2018, over 10.6 million shoebox gifts were collected worldwide, 8.8 million of which came from the U.S. 168 million shoebox gifts have been delivered to children in need in more than 160 countries since 1993.

Since 2009, more than 18.9 million children who have received a shoebox gift have participated in The Greatest Journey - our 12-lesson discipleship program where they learn what it means to follow Jesus and share their faith with friends and family.

In 2019, Operation Christmas Child - the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind - hopes to collect enough shoebox gifts to reach another 11 million children in more than 100 countries.

Our church will once again serve as a Drop-Off location for oth-er churches in the area, the week of November 18-25. We will need four people each evening, and Tuesday & Thursday from 10:00 am - 12 noon, to pack the shoeboxes into shipping car-tons. You may sign up at the Information table in the entryway.

Smithville Brethren Church, On behalf of my brother, sisters and I, and our families, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you, to Smithville Breth-ren Church, for allowing us to have our Dad’s memorial service here. Words cannot express how grateful we are that we had such a special place to gather and remember our Dad. We would like to say thank you, for the planter floral arrangement, it was perfect. Sincerely, Shirley Nickles and family

Thank you so much for your donation to help our school. It is greatly appreciated. Jordan, 12th grade Riverside Christian School

Thank You I would like to thank each and everyone for your thoughts, prayers, calls, and visits during my recent sur-gery and recovery from my back surgery. Praise the Lord I am recovering wonderfully and am anxious to get back to a normal routine. I am SO Blessed for ALL of you. Love, Rachel Krabill

What a blessing to be a part of such a wonderful church family. The cards, calls, texts, visits and words of encouragement have all been greatly appreciat-ed. You all have helped to make a difficult situation a little easier. The gift certificate will be used for a memory in honor of Frank’s Mom and a reminder of the blessings here at Smithville Brethren Church. In His love, Frank & Michelle Lucci

A Note from Your Librarian

This month and next I am going to be highlighting books to read for the Holiday Season - Thanksgiving and Christmas.

“With Winter’s First Frost” by Kelly Irvin - “With the coldest sea-sons comes the warmest of second chances.” This book re-minds us that God’s purposes always bear fruit and sometimes love is sweeter with age.

“Colors of Christmas” by Olivia Newport - Two contemporary sto-ries celebrate the Hope of Christmas. A twist through time to discover where faith and passions meet.

“Secret Sister -An Amish Christmas Tale” by Sarah Price. Will a se-ries of mysterious gifts help Grace rediscover joy and peace this Christmas?

“Christmas at Stoney Creek” by Martha Rogers. Trust God, give gen-erously, and understand the power of unconditional love.

“Christmas Admirer” by Laura V. Hilton. A story to warm your heart this season – a true love story.

Look for these books and others on the wall in the library. Your Librarian, Rachel Krabill Quote: 2 Corinthians 9:15: “Thanks be to GOD for his indescribable gift.”

Dinner Theatre Fundraiser by Element 4:12!

OCTOBER 13 @ 5:30 pm Don't miss SBC's very first Dinner Thea-tre Fundraiser by Element 4:12! (That's our amazingly talented youth group sporting a new name, if you haven't heard yet!) There will be drama & musical numbers and appearances by the puppets, while you dine to the finest John Steiner cuisine! Why, you ask? Well, Element 4:12 is on a mission to spread the gospel to kids across the globe with Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. They want to reach at least 100 children by packing that many boxes. They are already on their way but are asking for your help. Why not join in by having a night of fabulous food and fun? Sign up by October 6 at the sign up table & you can place your ticket money in the offering, marked “dinner theater.” Tickets are $10 adults, $5 ages 6-12, under 6 free. Can't make it to the event and still want to help out Element 4:12 reach their goal? Consider gifting tickets or making a donation through the offering, noting it for Element 4:12. Thank you!

New Sunday School Studies:

Lower Lights Class - As Christians, we possess the ultimate hope of eternity in heaven. Most of us only have a vague concept of what this will be like. The Lower Lights class will view the DVD “ALL THINGS NEW” based on John Eldredge's book in October. These five sessions will be followed up with discussion as the author cites scripture to as-sure us that heaven and earth are in for a complete restoration and our future there will be exciting be-yond our wildest imaginations. This study can be seen as a kind of prelude to the study of Revelations that Dan Fetter will lead start-ing in November. Feel free to join us in the lower fellowship hall. Norm Ream is leading this class.

Salt & Light - This class is led by John Kaufman, and is beginning a study in Psalms, beginning with chapter 42. The class meets in the upper fellowship hall.

Conquerors’ class is beginning the book “Images of the Spirit” led by Lou Kiba in room 204.

Feel free to join any of these classes that you might be interested in.

Combined Service & Thanksgiving Meal

The all church Combined Service & Thanksgiving Dinner will be on Nov 3rd.

Please sign up and add this event to your calendar! The Fellowship Committee and the Hospitality Committee will be doing the set-up, decorating, cooking the turkeys & ham, dress-ings, mashed potatoes, rolls, butter and beverages.

We are asking for you to sign up to bring a side dish and/or a dessert. The sign-up sheet is on the Infor-mation table.

Christmas Celebration Dec. 8 - 2:00 pm

Please note the date and new time. Also, instead of a meal, there will be a cookie and punch reception in the Upper Fellowship Hall after the program.
