I. Purpose The Guidebook was created help Junior Members prepare for their role on board Newark-Arcadia

EMS ambulances upon their clearance to Operational Status.

II. Operations A.) The Guidebook has individual pages that can be kept as a record of advancement within the

agency. Permanent Agency records are kept electronically at the Newark-Arcadia EMS Base.

B.) Junior Members may wear their ribbons and badges as earned and as part of the Class A uniform. Class A uniforms are worn during special occasions such as Honors Nights, Parades, and Inspections.

C.) Junior Members, the Junior Membership Supervisor, and Junior Members’ Leadership use this Guidebook to develop Junior Members’ learning and work during meetings and off-time. Junior Members may work on these achievements at their pace and may work on them during meetings, at the base, or as homework.

D.) Process: 1.) Review the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons presentation from the textbook “Emergency Care

and Transportation of the Sick and Injured” on a given Chapter. You can also borrow a book and read the material, use the link provided on my website to access supplemental information, and speak with Operational Junior Members and Leaders.

2.) Take the Chapter Test.

3.) If you earn an 85% or better - GREAT! You’ve completed that objective of the Learning Achievement.

4.) Once you’ve completed all the Chapters for a particular Learning Achievement, you will be awarded the Learning Achievement Ribbon.

III. Completion, Distinction, and Advanced Skills Learning Achievement

B.) Upon completion and attaining 16 years of age, Junior Members may be promoted to Operational Status.

C.) Upon promotion to Operational Status, Junior Members will no longer wear individual ribbons of Foundation Learning Achievement completion, but will wear the single Foundation Learning Achievement Ribbon: Air Force Expedtionary Service Ribbon

D.) Junior Members who earn their Foundation Learning Achievement Ribbon by earning an average of 90% on ALL tests, except Advanced Skills Learning Achievement, may earn the Learning Achievement Ribbon with Distinction: Air Force Expedtionary Service Ribbon with Citation

E.) Junior Members who complete the Advanced Skills Learning Achievement will continue to be able to wear the earned ribbon on their uniform upon Operational clearance.
