President’s Report
G’day again all.
I’ve written a few of these now, and spoken to the Cave community via email, at Saturday speeches, after
Thursday trainings, functions and Presentation nights and the like more times than I can remember. They
all blur into one sentiment.
Too much left to Too Few.
Here’s thanks to those few.
We were honoured to have a few local businesses and old Saints support the club this year. Many thanks
to Sportsalive, Buyer’s Choice, Lifecare Chiro, Lockbar Steel & Aluminium, Eview Real Estate, Dominance
Guardian Services and Elgas for their generosity.
On field the club had a tough year. Browns Lake Reserve was underwater more than not so training proved
an inconsistent event. Washouts were the norm, in Synthetic as well as Turf. All in all a pretty ordinary
summer. The highlights were the 3rds making the finals and narrowly missing a GF berth, Jeremy Heys
winning the DDCA Turf 2 batting Average and the emergence of a new group of young Cavemen looking to
take over the turf grades. Big thanks to the Captains and their standbys – Paul Dunn, Jeremy Heys, Adam
Muirhead, Adam Murphy, Noel Fitzgibbon, Chris Maher, Matt Skeggs, Ian Baxter, Geoff Kilner, and Greg
Cole. We brought in Adam Muirhead to help with a bit of professionalism and structure and along with
Marsi, Skeggsy, Junior & DC, Thursdays (& Tuesdays) were running smoothly when we could get on the
park.. Also thanks to Wooosh & Big Allan Wise for running a bowling clinic for the young up & coming
bowlers, definitely something to be repeated in the future. Also thanks to Rev & Disco for producing
quality turf wickets in a year with little to no preparation, restoring our reputation as having a quality turf
deck.
Off the field the year started with barely a half a dozen on the committee and after some additions and
subtractions we were left back at about the half dozen again.
Luckily for the Cave one of those that did stand up was Geoff Kilner. Words cannot describe the effort that
Geoff has put in the Cave over the past season. In official or unofficial roles he has been & done everything
humanly possible and then some to keep the club moving. It’s been a very tough year with the weather
and the in-fighting, but through it all Geoff has held the place together.
Kerry Direen provided the committee with some experience and diplomacy. He also spent countless hours
behind the scenes cleaning, cooking, organising and general good bloking that we all know from ‘the Man’.
I missed thanking him a few times during the year – he works so efficiently – so thanks Kerry!
Noel Brodie, Steve Gray and Dan Moloney were the new blood on the committee, well new to me anyway.
Noel took on the secretary’s role and it perfectly suited his non-stop motor and technological expertise.
The secretary gets bombarded with information early in the year and Noel handled it all in stride. A key
person in helping direct the new ideals both on and off the field - hopefully he’ll continue the role next
year.
Steve took on the FDCA delegates role and helped land the 20/20 Junior regional finals for the club. He also
ran the Friday night games at the Cave and kept the Junior/Senior information lines open – something that
11
has been lacking in previous years. Steve was also part of the Strategic planning committee that presented
the club with some bold plans to help get us out of the 20th century.
Dan joined the committee when the subtractions were outnumbering the additions and provided another
new voice, but also a calm and wise head. Always on hand to help out whenever he could, although he did
lose touch of availability by joining the Kingston Council – at last we’ll get heard!
Chris Maher, along with Man, provided the stability of someone that had been there and done that,
priceless on a relatively new committee. Thanks Marsi for cranking out the newsletters, running Thursday
selections and acting as a bit of a right hand man for the often absent President.
Ken Dunn has been looking after the gear at the Cave for as long as I can remember. Every year he empties
out the kits, re-sorts the lot to get rid of any damaged or worn out stuff, orders the new gear and re-packs
the lot all over again. It goes unnoticed by many but every year we start the season with the teams setup
and ready to go . Thanks Dunny.
Social Events were a bit thin this year with a new, yet mature aged committee. An injection of youth next
year to form a social committee should get things moving again. Thanks to Daniel Johnson, Chris Maher,
Lucas Johnson, Kerry Direen, Geoff Kilner and everyone else for getting the $1000 Draw up and running. It
turned out to be a successful family day at the Cave and one that will only get bigger in years to come. We
had a few BBQ themed nights for the season opening and Xmas with the Man hosting the tongs, and a very
successful Rock Day. Bacca and Pete Smith doing a cracking job to re-invigorate a staple of the Cave
calendar.
Of course off field discussion has to mention the 4 D’s. Coming out of the Strategic meetings was a need to
re-invigorate the club, particularly aimed at directing the new, up and coming Saints toward a more focused
path. The strategic committee devised a ‘Pledge’ and also the placement of some large yellow signs with
the 4 D’s on them. ‘Dedication, Discipline, Desire and Determination’. After much debate and several
confusing events the club seemed to be split as to how we wanted to be directed as a club and also
presented to the wider community. It seems everyone wants to head in the same direction, just that the
method of getting there needs to be discussed a bit more and shared by the whole club. The most
disappointing things to come out of this new idea was that there were individuals at the club that think
they are above and beyond the group – on both sides of the 4D’s divide – taking matters into their own
hands rather than voicing their concerns through the proper channels. We are a group of individuals but
without working together with respect for the club and each other we will never be more than a local social
club that plays a bit of cricket.
Finally, and this should go without saying, but if you have a problem with the committee of the club or the
direction the club is heading, then join the committee and be a part of the process instead of another new
problem. The club has always welcomed new committee members at any stage of the year, so if you feel
there are problems around the club please get involved and help out.
See you at the Cave
Orf

Secretary’s Report 2011
I would like to thank all the captain’s for putting their hands up taking on these roles this year.
Training night were once again Tuesday and Thursday’s. Thank you to Orf for running the fielding
training drills.
The club will need to look at improving our training facilities either with the addition of a 4th
net or
maybe some lighting to extend our practice sessions. Once again this year we had a large number of
juniors step up and bolstered our senior teams. A special thanks goes to Woosh for Captaining the
fifth’s with a father and son team, these young guys are the future of our club and from what I can
see the future looks bright.
The 3rd’s
were our only senior team to make the finals and were very unlucky not to make the grand
final.
With the poor weather this season saw a lot of wash outs this intern meant limited numbers back at
the club on Saturday nights. The club introduced a $100 draw at 7:00pm on Saturday nights, in a
bid to get more back to the cave. This added some well needed pocket money into 3 of our junior
members.
Thank you to Rev and Disco for preparing the turf pitch at Bondi . Once again giving us a
ground/wicket that we could be proud of.
Thank you to all our sponsors, you are vital to the club
We once again held a $1000 draw this year, seeing Dean Van Derloo taking home the prize. Dean
generously put money on the bar and the mixed drinks were consumed at a great rate.
The committee have applied for several grants and are still hoping to secure a new scoreboard for
the cave.
Thank you to Kerri and Geoff for keeping the Cave clean. Another thank you to Geoff for entering
the match results.
I would personally like to thank Orf for stepping up and taking on the role as President. A thanks
goes to and all the committee on their efforts this year, but as with every year we need more help,
so if you think can come and join.
Noel Brodie

FDCA Sprit of Cricket Award goes to St Brigid’s/St Louis Under 16 Yellow At the FDCA awards presentation night on April 6
th, the St Brigids/St Louis Cricket Club was
awarded the inaugural Spirit of Cricket Award for our Under 16 Yellow team. The award came
about because of the spirit our boys played a game in against Chelsea/AERSL on January 28th
. The
coach from Chelsea/AERSL, Dave Hart approached me before the game and explained that one of
his players had a dying father whose wish was to see his son play a game and do well. His Dad only
had a few weeks to live, but he was at the game watching. Dave asked if our boys would be able to
bat and bowl “conservatively” when the boy was bowling and batting. We had a chat to the boys
and they all agreed to do this. When the boy bowled, our boys just blocked him out, but in the last
over of the innings, Boofa stumbled out of his crease and was given out stumped. The boy then
opened the batting and the boys bowled conservatively and he was able to get a few runs. A special
mention to Hot Dog for calling the first ball of the innings a no ball (just in time). Chelsea/AERSL
ended up winning the match – their first win of the season, but they were the better team on the day.
I suppose what we didn’t realize at the time was how special this day was for this boy’s father, who
has since died. It is not often you get to make a real difference in someone’s life, but on this day,
our boy’s made a difference to this family. The dad was able to see his son one last time play a
cricket match and probably see his son’s best ever performance. The Chelsea/AERSL coach was so
touched by this and what our boys had done, he nominated our team for this special Spirit of
Cricket Award.

TREASURER’S REPORT for 2010/2011
Firstly can I offer my sincere apology for the late submission of this report. This has caused the
delay in the production & issuing of the Annual Report this year & is solely due to my inability to
complete my reports. Orf has diligently chased up me on many occasions in an effort to issue the
reports & conduct the AGM in a timely manner earlier than previous years & for this in particular I
have let the team down.
As one might expect in a year of unprecedented bad weather & washed out games, the financial
position of the club did not end as favourably as we would have hoped.
You will see in the figures below we ended the season with a net loss of $2,168.71.
During the year we had a major capital outlay of $4,082.48 to repair, recondition & rejuvenate one
of the turf rollers at Bondi which has been out of action for many years. We also serviced the 2nd
roller & both mowers & replaced fuel jerry cans. This cost was shared with Bonbeach Tangy CC &
Chelsea CC who each paid 1/3 the overall expenses, although we undertook to complete all the
work.
Our member base remains strong with a continued increase in subscription revenue for the third
year in succession. A contributing factor was the 10% increase in cost of sub’s for this season but
never the less the subscriptions’ have provided our major source of income.
Given that the bar taking were down slightly from previous years it was still a fantastic effort on
behalf of Potsy for running the bar again this season. The club didn’t run as many social functions
& this hasn’t helped the bar profit bottom line. With less people coming back to the club after the
games & the lack of games for people to come back from, it was a impressive effort to achieve a
simular profit to that of last year.
There were many generous donations & sponsorship contributions made to the club again this
season. We greatly appreciate the ongoing support provided by the following companies &
individuals most of whom have been loyal contributors for many years:
Peter Hope – Buyers Choice Home Loans
Big Nick – Dominance Security
Kingsley Anthonisz – Lifecare Chiropractic
Dave Barker – Lockbar Steel
Eview Real Estate Partners
I would also like to acknowledge the donations made by Noel Brodie who has generously supplied
the club Laptop Computer & Deep Fryer together with many purchases of chips to feed the hungry
punters back at the Cave after training & game days.
This year we engaged Adam Muirhead to coach in an effort to become more professional in our
approach & the hopefully become more successful on & off the field. I’m sure the 1st XI
appreciated his support & although they didn’t win a lot of games Adam proved he was a class
bowler winning the team bowling average. Thanks Adam for your efforts throughout the season.
A big thankyou to all committee members for their efforts in maintaining & running the Cave
throughout the season. Kerry did a superb job cleaning the rooms & attending DDCA delegates
meetings, Noel for support with meeting minutes & administration, Steve who represented the club
at FDCA meetings, Marsi for producing the newsletters & his work on the $1000 draw, Deej for the
brilliant spit roast at the $1000 draw, Potsy for the huge commitment organizing, supervising &
running the bar & lastly Orf for bringing it all together & steering the ship.

BAR REPORT – SEASON 10/11
Bar Profit for the season was $6,545.00 which is down on previous seasons. It is clear that our wet
summer and many Saturdays washed out has affected the bar figures.
Other things of note: VB Cans seems to be on the nose. UDLs are on the rise (has bacca started
drinking UDLs???).
Whilst I am willing to help out next season, this will be my last season managing the bar.

SAINTS LIFE MEMBERS ASSOCIATION (Founded 1986)
LEGENDS REPORT for 2010/2011
As always, the Saints Life Members Association (Legends) has been actively involved in the
social, playing and administration of the club. The Legends organise a few social events throughout the
season and here is a brief account of those activities:
SLMA Junior Cricketer Award
The SLMA Award to the Cave Junior Cricketer, who achieves the most success in the senior ranks for the
Saints, was awarded this season to Kyle Gray, who is the last year’s winner of the award. Kyle had an
excellent year in the U/16’s including representing the regional side, and in the afternoon, Kyle progressed to
be one of the most consistent batsmen of the club’s 1st XI. This has been Kyle’s break-out season, and he
has plenty more to offer and no doubt, he will have a crack at the premier cricket of Victoria.
Congratulations again Kyle, on an excellent season with both the Juniors and the Seniors of the club.
Thursday Night Raffles
The Thursday Night Raffle tradition continued at the Cave. Thanks again to those loyal Cave buyers of the
raffles and remember, “The more you drink at the Cave, the more you save”. Once again, a great thanks to
Paulsy, Bar Manager, who made sure that we had cold refreshments and something to eat, Kerry for looking
after the BBQ (Stealth & AB have flagged more BBQs for next season)and Stealth’s continued successful
selling of the Cave Thursday Night raffle. Another excellent effort by the boys on Thursday nights, to cater
for the rest of the club members.
Rock Day - 1st Sunday in February of each Year
A Top turn-up by members for both sides this year. Peter (Smithy) Legend Smith had beat the drums and the
Legends responded. All-Star Captain, Jezza, batted first and he and Myers got off to a good start with both
retiring, although D.C. & Beanie were doing a bit with the ball. Gus stepped in and hit a couple of dorothies,
but Legend bowlers were keeping a tight lid on the scoring with Juice, Digs, Wilks, Orf & Hassa all over the
All-Stars bats, with only a late flourish from Murph and Ginger. Total score of 154 looked a little light.
The Legends were straight on the front foot with the Nut & Glenn smacking boundaries. The All-Stars Dud
picked up a couple of prime wickets in Hassa & Man, and the wheels started to fall off. All-Stars were baying
for blood, but some sweet hitting from the Captain Sleepy, Ozzie & Orf, saw the Legends home. Good
bowling performances from Sick Mick, Marsi, Dax, Dud & Gus could not hold out the Legends.
A fun day and again thanks to Smithy in getting the Legends out of their wheel-chairs, and the Man cranking
up the BBQ, and of course, Potsy organising the refreshments.
Excellent Friday
“The Tradition continues ....". An excellent turn-up this year with plenty of past players and supporters at
the Cave with plenty of stories to tell and relive. Alf and Wisey were on hand to tell us about the Swanees,
and a blast from the past, X-man was back and informed all that the Tigers were also back. X-man also
cleaned up with the Door Prize. Dunny and Smacka had the mat back into play which was enjoyed by nearly
all. Thanks to Potsy in stocking the bar and making sure the UDLs were cleaned out, Bacca tending the Bar
and Kerry doing the Master Chief with the food. Thank-you to all those who did attended and remember, it
is the day of the Cave, a tradition.

Re-unions
This season, there was only 1 Team that celebrated their Premiership Anniversary and that club team was the
2000/01 2nds XI. A very late call was made to have the team get together and thanks for most of the team
members for making the effort to have a drink and reminisce at the Cave, after the last home and home game
of this season. In 2000/01, the Saints finished 3rd
and were successful in the semi-final against the 2nd
ranked
side, and then played the 1st ranked team in the Grand Final. If there was a washout, then the highest ranked
team is awarded the Premiership. The 1st day was washed out and the 2
nd day, finally got under way with
only 80 minutes play with the Saints 2/47 at end of play after losing the toss. Bug played a gem of an
innings as we could have easily been 6/30 overnight. Day 3 was Smacka’s day, with ample support from his
team-mates. As the weather was still dicey, the Saints declared, and an excellent effort with the ball had
Keysborough 3/12 overnight. Day 4, the Saints kept the foot to the metal and top bowling and fielding
brought home the chocolates. Tim picks up a ‘Michelle’, and the Premiership is won. The Grand-Final
score card is detailed here-under.
Summary
1. Congratulations to the 3rd
XI on being the only club side in representing the club in the finals, and with a
very young side, were very unlucky not to collect the chocolates by losing by only 6 runs. Due to the very
wet conditions experienced this season, this hampered our young sides in their pursuit of finals berth, as
games were washed-out when our sides were in good positions.
2. A number of past players attended the club this year which was appreciated by the current members. I
believe young Patty Jamo could act as a Cave Tour Guide relating past Cave deeds as Harpo and Gomer
were constantly in his ear, or showing him the First Club Premiership Photo and score-card displayed in the
Cave. Thanks to Smithy in cranking up Rock Day which resulted in a top turn-out.
3. Thank-you to all the Cave members, their families & friends, who supported the Club over the last
season. Your commitment and efforts are appreciated.

FIRST X1 – Season 2010/11
The ones went into the season with a similar makeup to previous seasons with a view to hopefully improve. The
season turned out to be very frustrating and was ruined by rain, weddings, bucks days, injuries and more rain.
Just about every week there were 2 or 3 players unavailable from the regular side. A club likes ours, which lacks
depth is always going to struggle when this happens.
ROUND 1 Vs Maranatha Methodists, Home. Loss Them: 8/148 (40 Overs)
Us: 120 (33 Overs) Jezza 70
We lose the toss and bowl against an inexperienced and ordinary Maranatha side. The bowling is tight with all
bowlers picking up a wicket in restricting them to 148. Confident in chasing down the total we completely
crumble in a terrible display. With wickets falling everywhere, Heys (with a wrecked finger) makes a very lucky
70 which makes the scorecard look a little more respectable. A disappointing start to the season against a side we
should be beating.
HIGHLIGHTS: Nothing…although the arvo tea might have been decent.
LOWLIGHTS: Everything between 1pm & 6pm
ROUND 2 Vs Cranbourne, Away. Draw
Us: 206 (96 Overs) Kyle 65, Nugget 24, Potsy 21, Jezza 26, Orf 19, Flea 14
Them: 2/62 (15 Overs)
We venture out to Cranny with a hurricane brewing over Port Phillip Bay. There is a bit in the track and we
inevitably lose the toss. In 32 overs of drizzling rain, terrible batting conditions and against one of the better
bowling sides in the comp, Nugget, Ferrett, Potsy & Jezza see us through at 3/80. Rock up the following week in
ideal conditions with a view to batting out the day. Orf 19 (30 Overs) Flea 14 (20 Overs) support Kyle who bats
most of the day for a brilliantly patient 65. They crack the shits because we wouldn’t declare…we just laugh at
em…3 points today.
HIGHPOINTS: A very solid batting display with plenty of contributors. Under 16 Kyle’s terrific innings. The
infamous photo in front of ‘St Brigids’ Billboard. Leaving Cranbourne.
LOWLIGHTS Another Highlight: Nugget getting floored by a bouncer to the head. They showed more concern
than what we did.
ROUND 3 Vs Hampton Park, Home. Loss
Us: 9/151 (40 Overs) Ferret 58, Jezza 24
Them: 4/155 (33 Overs)
We bat first on a bondi ROAD. Ferret in career best form makes his first fifty in the ones and holds the innings
together. He gets some support from Jezza and Kyle but 151 in perfect batting conditions was not gunna be
enough. Chasing early wickets they instead give us a belting and pass our score easily.
HIGHLIGHTS: Ferret hitting his first six since Under 16s. Later admitted it was only his second six ever!!
LOWLIGHTS: Well beaten, still winless. I’m over writing this report already.
ROUND 4 Vs Lyndale, Away. WIN Them: 99 (37 Overs) Muirhead 2/12(8), AB 4/11(8), Jezza 2/16(7), Gus 2/29, Flea 5 Catches
Us: 5/101 (26 Overs) Potsy 28, Jezza 41
It has pissed down all week and there’s little chance of play. The league make all sides rock up and their pitch
resembles a slip n slide (Heys had his boogie board on standby). With fingers crossed we fortunately win the toss.
Boodsy & AB pitch the ball up and bowl perfectly in the conditions. The chirpy Fleabag takes an amazing 5
Catches at mid wicket and soon these cocky bunch of sub-continent misfits are in disarray. Jezza and Gus clean up
the tail but they make more than they should have and we are in for a tricky run chase. At 3/30 we are nervous but
Potsy and Jezza bat stylishly and put the game beyond doubt.
HIGHLIGHT: Winners!!! Getting sledged in a variety of different languages by a bunch of muppets.
LOWLIGHT: Bing scoring in the absence of Lurker, After seeing the book you wouldn’t think he got through
kindergarten.
ROUND 5 Vs Fountain Gate, Home. Loss Them: 185 (65 Overs) AB 4/26, Muirhead 3/41
Us: 150 (63 Overs) Potsy 37, Muirhead 47, AB 8* (57 Last wicket partnership)
We go into the game severely depleted. All The Jamieson’s at a wedding and Heys destroying his ankle during the
week. Lost the toss and bowl. Once again Boodsy and AB bowl a treat and have the Gators in trouble at 6/97. Gus
bowls well but we let them get away and they make a respectable 185.
27 / 45
Disco and Kyle negotiate a tricky 15 over stint at days end and we have a sniff. Following week Potsy gets no
support and at 9/93 we are rooted. Boodsy and AB then put on 57 for the last wicket and have them nervous for a
while. Like the first game they are an ordinary side that we should be beating.
HIGHLIGHT: Boodsy & Ab’s all-round performance.
LOWLIGHT: Jeremy ‘Liz Ellis’ Heys wrecking his ankle attempting to ‘slam dunk’ the net at half time in an
indoor netball game.
ROUND 6 Vs Buckley Ridges, Away. Loss Them: 268 (40 Overs) Heys 3/27, Flea 2/35
Us: 158 (37 Overs) Muirhead 43
Playing on the postage stamp at Buckley Ridges this game was a complete cock up. The less said the better. We
drop catches and all bowlers bowled home brand party pies (except for Flea who bowled terrific under the
circumstances). We chase quick runs but are never a chance. Boodsy adds some respect by belting 43 towards the
end.
HIGHLIGHT: My catch of the century. Wowee…what an athlete! Kyle trying to take out the umpire with his
head.
LOWLIGHT: Continually collecting balls out the creek. Any creek in Dandenong should be avoided.
ROUND 7 Vs HSD, Away. Loss
US: 122 (38 Overs) Potsy 56, Paki 19
Them: 3/123 (28 Overs) Muirhead 1/7(8)
Washed out round one re-scheduled on a Sunday in early January….bravo DDCA. We are struggling for numbers
and draft in former cave player and now Mentone moth Paki Burke. To make matters worse Mick Deluca has to
swap his Johnnie Walker can for a pair of whites after some late omissions.
They are the best side (worst bunch of blokes) in the comp and eventual premier…this could get ugly. Despite all
this we put up a solid performance. Potsy after some early luck, holds the innings together with 56 and Paki
surprises many by making 19. We get 122, which is not bad considering their good bowling attack and very slow
outfield. Boodsy and Bing open up the bowling and are very miserly with the ball. They bowl extremely well and
at 2/28 off 15 we are getting excited. However they start to tee off and a couple of their good bats get hold of us.
HIGHLIGHTS: Leaving HSD without getting bashed, stepping on a syringe or having anything stolen.
LOWLIGHTS: After years of table tennis and backyard cricket beatings, Paki gets some revenge by running out
the captain. Boodsy and Paki almost getting reported.
ROUND 8 Vs Coomoora, Home. Loss Us: 157 (36 Overs) Potsy 58, Jezza 54
Them: 3/161 (39 Overs)
Playing one of the top sides we win the toss and bat. Bang, bang, bang we are 3/3. Jezza and Potsy consolidate,
put on 130 run partnership and are doing it easily before Potsy has a brainmelt and runs himself out. Jezza hits a
few in the golf course and they are getting worried. After losing Jezza we capitulate to be allout 157. Very
disappointing given we were 3/130 with 10 overs remaining.
Whilst we struggle to pick up wickets, they bat very strangely and with ten overs remaining are chasing quick
runs. We actually get close to winning but they pass us with an over to spare. Frustrating because we should have
got close to 200 and that would have made the game very interesting.
HIGHLIGHTS: Being competitive against one of the top sides.
LOWLIGHTS: Losing…and not able to think of anything amusing from this game.
ROUND 9 Vs Southern Pirates, Away. Draw Us: 9/337 (80 Overs) Jezza 115, Kyle 76*, Nugget Potsy & Boodsy all 40
MUST WIN game in the relegation dogfight and we win the toss and bat. They are bottom of the table and we are
just above them. Nugget, Disco & Potsy get us off to a solid start and at 4/121 the innings could have gone either
way. Enter J.Heys who starts belting the bowlers everywhere on his way to a swashbuckling 115. He gets great
support from Kyle (76*) and with a 130 run partnership sets us up for a big total. Boodsy then finishes them by
belting a quick 40 and these bunch of gimps with big mouths are now shattered. We know they can’t bat and the
only thing that can save them is rain……we then cop the backwash of Cyclone Yasi.
HIGHLIGHT: Jezza’s Hundred. Going out there with one ball to face, Flea blocks it back to the bowler and
decides to run himself out. Potsy being dismissed by a bloke with one leg.
LOWLIGHTS: Obviously the rain. One of those rare occasions when a washout is NOT good.
ROUND 10 Vs Narre Warren Nth, Home. Draw
Us: 127 (63 Overs) Potsy 26, Kyle 25*
Them: 2/38 (17 Overs)
Late start due a burst sprinkler, we are sent in on a dodgy deck and slow outfield. In tough conditions we battle
hard against some tight bowling but can only accumulate 127. They have 17 overs to bat and we grab a couple of
28 / 45
late wickets to have them 2/38 and in with chance. It again pisses down on Friday night and there is a lake on one
side of the ground. They whinge and whine claiming we have done this on purpose and demand we fix the
problem. For the next hour we attempt to sweep ‘ankle deep’ water with a garden broom until they finally come to
their senses. We take our 3 points and run!
HIGHLIGHTS: An SES truck appearing from nowhere as we are stealing sandbags to fix the burst sprinkler head.
LOWLIGHTS: Arvo tea including a jar of pickled onions and stuffed olives.
ROUND 11 Vs Springvale Sth, Away. Loss US: 210 (71 Overs) Jezza 60, Muirhead 51*, Trog 32.
& 4/132 (28 Overs) Jezza 52*
THEM: 9/335 (dec) Muirhead 3/57, Bing 3/63
Win the toss on a Springy Sth Road. We struggle early before Heys and Trog Jnr bat impressively and steady the
ship with an 80 run partnership. Boodsy again belts some handy runs down the order to give us a competitive 210.
Following week they need an unlikely outright win the make the finals. They bat accordingly trying to smash us to
all parts of the ground with great success. Boodsy bowled an outstanding 20 over spell and bing picks up same
late wickets but they are far too good for us. They try for an ambitious outright win and send us in for 28 overs.
Jezza in career best form, smashes a quickfire 52* and claims the league batting average in the process.
HIGHLIGHTS: It took the last game for co-captaincy conflict to appear, much to everyone’s amusement. Post
game drinks at Ray Nichols Park.
LOWLIGHT: Trog Jnr rocking up late second week with ‘car trouble’. I’m sure the real story involved a late night
and some form of substance abuse.
So a tally of 1 Win, 3 Draws & 7 Losses (Finishing 11th
of 12). Disappointing given we lost to a couple of sides
we should beat and were unlucky with washout’s on a couple of occasions. We performed better than our ladder
position suggests and were actually the leading run scorers in the comp.
Our batting was very solid throughout the season but was reliant on the same few people.
Jezza was easily the standout batsman in the club and thoroughly deserved to win the league batting average. He
has the potential to destroy bowling attacks over the next few seasons (provided there’s no footy, netball or
ALCOHOL related injuries).
Kyle also made some handy runs and did a terrific job for a junior kid. He has a good temperament and has the
ability to bat overs…something we have lacked in the past.
Boodsy deserves a mention for the runs he made in the lower order. Probably didn’t get much of a go at his
previous club but showed he can be a good number 8.
Innings Runs Average HS
Jeremy Heys 10 479 53.22 115
Paul Dunn 12 300 27.30 58
Kyle Gray 11 235 33.60 76*
Adam Muirhead 10 210 23.30 51*
The Bowling was our problem. It lacked penetration and we struggled to take wickets. Boodsy bowled without
luck for the majority of the year and was easily our most dangerous bowler. He was the deserving winner of the
bowling average The rest of the bowling was made up of a mixture of young blokes Gus (5), Bing (6) & Flea (5)
and veterans Jezza (9) Orf (1) & AB (8). Wickets in bracket*. The young guys will be better for the run and will
keep improving.
A big thanks to Lurker for his efforts with the scorebook this season. He is the un-official team manager and
makes the captains job a lot easier on match day.
Thanks to the committee, all the other captains and everybody who played throughout the season (a list is below).

ST BRIGIDS/ST LOUIS 2ND
XI 2010-11 REPORT
Season 2010/11 started with hope and belief that the Saints would be super competitive in DDCA
Turf 5 and also be a springboard for the young players to learn the game of cricket and hopefully
progress to our Ist XI. As a team we did not reach the heights on the field but did unearth some
talent for future years at the club.
34 players represented the two’s throughout the year with 3 wins, 2 draws and 6 losses from 11
games. With 2 games remaining for the year the side was only one game out of the four with a
slight chance to make finals. We rolled the dice without success but to the boys credit we had a red
hot dip. Unfortuately there was a number of games were reduced to one-day games due to the
weather.

XI DDCA B Grade 2010/11 Season Report Season 10/11 was ridiculously wet, resulting in a lot of one day games, in which we always seemed to be bowling first, but it was a good season for the thirds. We won a few tight games pre-Christmas that seemed to get the side motivated, and the team put in some great bowling and fielding displays, and occasionally the batting line up did enough to get us home. Rd 1 vs Narre North Them 4/188 Bacca 2/47 Evan Bittner 1/45 Us 162 Jezza 36 Lochie Brodie 35 Bacca 25 First of three meetings for the season with Narre Nth. Dan (Gang) Green stood up to captain in his last game at the Saints. Dan has been a great clubman and we wish him all the best with the farm in Gippsland. Our bowling was tidy but didn’t result in many wickets. The cricket highlight being the display in the field by Jezza, resulting in two catches and a fantastic run out. The Big Bear (Yianni) bowled a tidy spell, but would be best remembered for being the first (but definitely not the last player) to go flying into the “temporary” lake on the far side of Browns Reserve. Chasing 4/188 in front of a supportive home crowd we fell just short. Top scores coming from Lochie Brodie (35) & Jezza (36), both destined for the turf teams. Rd 2 vs Cranbourne Them 9/121 Rory Williams 2/14 Matthew Skeggs 2/32 Us 71 C.Maher 20 First game for the new captain at a very wet Casey Fields. Rory had a great game, winning the toss (captain trying to find players), deciding to bowl, taking 2/14 and getting a run out with a direct hit from the fence. NEvans also chimed in with a direct run out and Rocko took a first ball wonder wicket. We gave ourselves a big chance only needing to chase 9/121, but started slowly and were never in it. All out 9/71. Rd 3 vs Coomoora Them 120 R.Williams 4/13 Josh Tripcony 3/42 Us 9/123 L.Vanderloo 21 L.Ardrey 32 K.Dobbin 15 JT 15* First week ended after 11 overs with them 2/50 due to rain. Definitely a blessing. Second week Rory continued his great form, 4/13 before breaking down with a muscle strain. JT gave great support at the other end with 3/42. Ben O’Brien started his Saints career with 3 catches and Karl Dobbin took 1/15 with his leg spin. Chasing 120 with a batsman short we put in a much better team effort, but still looked fragile. Highlights the confident start of Luke Ardrey & Luke Vanderloo, then the resilience of Karl & JT down the order. However, Rory took the honours by hitting a 6 as the last batsman to win the game. Great away win for the team. Rd 4 vs Maranatha Methodists Them 120 D.Johnson 3/13 E.Bittner 4/13 M.Skeggs 2/32 Us 7/123 L.Ardrey 23 Bacca 29* At home and bowling first again. Daniel Johnson was drafted in for a cameo and he delivers with 3/13, along with Evan Bittner (EFB) with 4/13 to roll them for 120. The highlight for the whole team however was Skeggsy’s 100th wicket for the cave, which we’d been counting down to from the start of the season. Another fill in by Gerard Burke (16) got us off to an ok start along with Luke Ardrey (23), but we needed the return of the wise no6, Bacca, to guide us home with 29 not out. Weirdly, exactly the same scores as last game. Rd 5 vs Keysborough Them 106 L.Harris 2/17 J.Barker 3/16 Bacca 2/25 Us 102 C.Maher 33 C.Hogbin 22 First week rained out again. Lost toss, bowling first again. Our bowling line up featured three U/16’s, Skeggsy & Bacca. A good range of ages. Liam Harris and James Barker impressed in their 3rds debuts for the year with 2/17 and 3/16 respectively. One great catch by Sammy Turner but better fielding would have reduced their score of 106. Unfortunately, we started off like the Aussies in the Ashes, 3/7 after 4 overs. The captain finally makes some runs and Craig Hogbin impresses in his first game (22) but we fall short by 4 runs in the last over.
32 / 45
Rd 6 vs Doveton Them 82 D.Vanderloo 3/27 J.Tripcony 2/21 B.Fitzgibbon 2/11 & 7/89 B. Fitzgibbon 2/9 Us 165 J.Tripcony 35 L.Vanderloo 26 C.Hogbin 20 Skeggsy, the spiritual leader of the side steps up to the captaincy. Somehow we’re still bowling first, and JT has yet another opening partner with the new ball. Dean Vanderloo doesn’t disappoint (3/27), JT continues his good form (2/21), and Benny Fitz enjoys a rare outing on matts (2/11). They’re all out for 82. We get their score with just 3 wickets down due to JT (35), Luke Vanderloo (26) and Craig Hogbin (20) but fall away to be all out for 165. Ben Fitzgibbon (2/9) led the attempt at outright, but we fell short having them 7/84. There were seven individual wicket takers, including Luke Vanderloo (1/2) and the now traditional Sam Turner catch. Well at the Christmas break we were the most successful Cave team, had a good team spirit and were still in with a chance at the finals. Bowling well, Fielding well, but still needing to improve in the batting stakes. Rd 7 vs H.S.D Them 184 I.Baxter 2/40 J.Keighley 2/17 Us L.Ardrey 35 C.Maher 67* I.Baxter 43* Captain decides to bowl, for tradition, much to the disapproval of Big Nick, who answered the call for a cameo performance. HSD surprise us a bit, but the usual bowling suspects were solid and with a couple of run outs, the now ubiquitous Sammy Turner catch or two, and Jimmy Keighley taking 2/17 we finally get them out for 184. Luke Ardrey’s form continues (35), Marsi (67*) and Bacca (43*) then get the team home with some assistance from self declared all round E.F.Bittner (18). Rd 8 vs Narre North Us 135 C.Flisher 21 N.Evans 35 L.Barnhoorn 34 & 4/79 C.Maher 25 Them 9/187 R.Williams 7/75 We finally get to bat first, and it’s on a soaked ground, with a partly mown outfield. This seems to throw us and with the exception of Cam Flisher in his first game back, we bat poorly and with little discipline to be 8/59 after 22 overs. Everyone out caught. Then Barney & NEvans rescue the innings, batting patiently and then cracking them all over the field when they drop short. All out 135. We get to see a sensational catch by Barney at deep fine leg, but they are 1/77 in reply overnight and we’re not looking good. The next week Rory rolls through them quickly with 7/75, NEvans gets another run out, and skeggsy clean rips a bloke on 70. Their captain makes a farce of the rest of the day by declaring and refusing to stop bowling even with no chance of an outright. It was a good response by the team after our initial poor batting display. Rd 9 vs Berwick Us 172 L.Ardrey 24 C.Maher 36 I. Baxter 22 Them 1/12 D.Hodgson 1/8 We get to bat first again, and put in a better team effort, but don’t have much more to show on the scoreboard than last game. Skeggsy is the rock at the top of the innings with 19 off 30 overs. Luke, Bacca, Marsi, and Sammy Turner all contribute. Hard to beat Dale Hodgson for best innings though, 2 balls, 2 sixes, then caught on the fence. They are 1/12 in reply but yet more rain sees the second day cancelled.
Rd 10 vs North Dandenong Us 6/385 L.Vanderloo 37 L.Ardrey 37 C.Maher 107 C.Flisher 102 I.Baxter 34* Them 228 R.Williams 2/67 N.Evans 3/91 I.Baxter 3/7 Skeggsy and then the two Lukes (both 37) get us off to a great start. Cam destroyed the North Dandy attack, making his maiden century for the Saints with 102. Cam was hitting them brilliantly, and their fielders made some very dispirited attempts at finding the continually lost ball in the trees around the ground. The captain also makes a ton and Bacca chips in to guide us to 6/385 declared. They’re 1/28 overnight. Unfortunately, yet more rain, and we have to drag a very reluctant North Dandy out to bat next week. A big thanks to the sweeping skills of Bacca & Rory, and Bacca’s knowledge of the DDCA rule book. NEvans opened and bowled a massive 26 overs on the trot (3/91). They were resilient and it looked like we were going to end up reaching for the rule book again before Bacca took 3/7 at the end to get the chocolates and set us in the direction of the finals.

In true cave form, it’s not that easy. We win the toss and bowl, as a few of the top order aren’t looking too fresh from yesterday’s Soundwave festival. We roll them for 109 and it looks like a great decision. Dean Vanderloo bowling sensationally, and everyone’s figures looking good. A special thanks to the HSD player who gave his teammate out lbw to a bowl pitching outside leg from Dodgy bowling right arm round the wicket. We’ve got 29 overs in the rest of the day, plus 72 overs next week, to make 109 runs. We channel the mother of all Saints batting collapses to be all out for 78. Bacca and Dean supplying some resistance. Unbelievably, we have to ball the last over of the day. Goodbye finals. Next week we bring an angry Skeggsy on first. He clean rips the opener 2nd bowl of the day, and we hardly look back from there. They are 4/4 with Dean and Skeggsy terrorizing the top order. Evan (EFB) fresh from saving Elephants overseas, strikes as well and there’s a good display behind the stumps by Luke Ardrey. HSD all out for 72. We need 103 off 19 overs. NEvans gets promoted to open, and duly salutes with an unbeaten maiden Cave 50. Luke Vanders hitting some great 6’s down the other end. We’re 106 off 14 overs and in the finals. Fantastic! SEMI – FINAL vs Narre North Them 181 R.Williams 2/33 (17 overs) E.Bittner 2/22 N.Evans 2/43 (17 overs) I.Baxter 3/11 (12 overs) Us 175 C.Flisher 66 I.Baxter 19 M.Skeggs 19 N.Evans 17 The supposed captain is unfortunately away in Adelaide at a former 1st XI captain’s wedding. The positive news is that spiritual leader Matthew Skeggs is back in charge. Obviously, we still end up bowling first. We roll out an impressive 8 man bowling attack, with JT, Liam and Ben coming back from the 2nds for the final. A great bowling display, as demonstrated by the figures above. This is backed up well in the field with 9 catches taken. We restrict them to 181 off 69 overs. In reply, we get off to a shaky start before NEvans (17), then Cam Flisher (66) plays the innings of the game. There is support and resistance from Bacca, Liam and Skeggsy, but unfortunately we fall 6 runs short. An incredible catch sealing the game for Narre North. A great display by the team. I would like to thank all the players who played in the three’s this year, and helped the team reach the finals. The spirit, humour and support displayed was great to see and made being a first year captain easier. It was also great to see how many players progressed to play on turf during the season. I would especially like to thank Skeggsy & Bacca for helping out with the team, and Skeggsy’s wife Alison for making the afternoon teas. Marsi

XI REPORT for Season 2010/2011
Of the 28 players who took to the field this season, 7 played their first game with the club. We are
also very lucky to have so many up & coming juniors to promote through the 4th
& 5th
XI to higher
grades. Whether we win or lose, the experience these players will gain along the way will prove to
be invaluable for them personally & ultimately the club
Round 1 Vs Mordialloc at Parkdale Secondary College
One Day game - Loss Toss
Them 6/143 (Jason 3/16, Liam 2/12)
Us 95 (Liam 27, Francis 22)
Not a good start to the season & probably the first time most of us have picked up a bat or ball for
some time. This showed in our lack of skills with the bat. Jason’s bowling was very tight & led the
strong attack in the field. Liam Harris also had great form a showed us why he is destined for the
higher grades. 4 new players debut with the Saints this week. Welcome to Francis Schoorman, Karl
Dobbin, David Jong & Andy Powell.
Round 2 Vs Cranbourne at Browns Reserve
One Day game - Won Toss
Them 3/232 (Andy 1/35, Jason 1/47, Liam 1/48)
Us 6/129 (Kiln 53)
Thought it might be a good idea to find out how many runs we needed to chase so batted 2nd
.
Unfortunately Crany just got too many & we weren’t able to get close enough to challenge them.
Round 3 Vs St.Marys at Browns Reserve
One Day game - Loss Toss
Them 7/184 (Jason 3/33, Andy 2/39)
Us 4/120 (Francis 55, Liam 45)
The bowlers & fielders did the job containing St.Marys to a getable score with great performances
from Jason & Andy. Although we had solid knocks from Francis & Liam the runs just didn’t come
quickly enough for us to reach to required total.
Round 4 Vs Doveton at L.S.Reid Oval
One Day game - Won Toss
Us 4/125 (Kiln 51*, Andy 18)
Them 6/134 (Liam 3/20)
Winning the toss I thought we should try a different tactic but still not making enough runs to
defend put us in a tough spot. We slogged away in the field & although they got off to a good start
we collected the last 4 wickets in the space of 11 runs so thought we might have been on a roll. Not
to be as they over took us in the 27th
over.
Round 5 Vs Silverton at Browns Reserve
One Day game - Loss Toss
Them 139 (Andy 5/36, Bob 3/25)
Us 93 (Yarni 24, Kiln 21)
We finally had a game going our way with a superb effort in the field & bowlers ripping through
the line up in 30 overs. We just had to follow this up with the bat. If Yarni could have maintained
his intensity top scoring with 24 runs off 6 scoring shots we would have most definitely got there,
but it wasn’t to be & were all out in the 28th
over.
Round 6 Vs Fountain Gate at Max Pawsey Reserve
Two Day game - Loss Toss
Us 24 (Karl 9) & 34 (Paul 10)
Them 3/110 (Tom McCarthy 2/37))
Not sure what can be said about this performance or lack of by all players. Turning our 1st two day
game into a one day was something none of us were proud of. We were completely out classed & it
35 / 45
showed we need to try a lot harder if we are to be successful this season. Saying that, it was great to
see Tom take a couple of well earned wickets
Round 7 Vs Narre North at Kalora Park
One Day game - Won Toss
Them 4/153 (Jason 2/28)
Us 9/124 (Jason 33, Scott 30*, Andy 26)
Once again we kept the opposition to a getable total but failed to capitalize on the opportunity &
started batting too slowly. There were several good knocks from Jason & Andy & a ‘one off’
appearance for the season from Scott Burnham saw him nearly get us across the line.
Round 8 Vs Springvale South at Browns Reserve
Two Day game - Won Toss
Us 163 (Francis 32, Karl 29, Evan 25, Shanon 22)
Them 122 (Bob 3/19, Jimmy 2/17, Paul 2/20)
In my absence for this round Jason took over the reins & bought the best out in the team. 4 batsmen
scored into the 20’s which was a great effort. The boys followed this up taking 3/34 in the
remaining 9 overs on the 1st day which set things up for the following Sat. Tight work from all the
bowlers with 11 of the 48 bowled being maidens. A well deserved win is finally on the board.
Round 9 Vs Cranbourne at Camms Reserve
Two Day game - Won Toss
Us 104 (Steve Strange 44, Jason 28)
Them 1/36 (Andy 1/9)
Steve saved the day holding up at one end & making runs whilst others fell around him. It was an
excellent performance & as it turned out, the second week was washed out, so his perseverance
enable us to hang on for a draw instead of a 1st inning defeat.
Round 10 Vs Lynbrook at Lynbrook Reserve
Two Day game - Loss Toss
Them 85 (Bob 5/14, Yarni 3/9)
Us 6/94 (Yarni 24)
Once again we saw the bowlers do an exceptional job. Bob’s 5 wicket left the baters reeling as they
didn’t have a clue how to play him. Andy although unlucky not to take a wicket bowled 8 overs 5
maidens for 8 runs. Yarni too had a great day with the ball & followed this up with a top score, this
time off 7 scoring shots. We secured the 1st inning win on the 1
st week & then found the 2
nd week
washed out due to wet ground conditions.
Round 11 Vs Parkfield at Browns Reserve
Two Day game - Loss Toss
Us 92 (Kiln 25, Bob 23)
Them 195 (Karl 3/12, Bob 3/34)
Again we didn’t make enough runs to defend so Parkfield had no pressure in there quest to chase
down our total. Our bowlers did well to roll them & had we batted out our overs on the 1st week we
might have been able to make a game of it. A flat end to the season following our run of successes.
We had a slow & disappointing start to the year culminating in the terrible loss at round 6. The
second half of the season proved we were a lot more competitive with 1 loss, 1 near win, 1 draw &
2 wins. We can walk away knowing we are on the improve with bigger & better this for next
season.
Well done to all players.

FIFTH XI SEASON REPORT
SEASON 2010-11
WOW. What a season we just had!
Wild weather, washouts, Cave collapses, bold fight backs, more collapses – and a whole heap of
fun.
Yes FFFun. F grade – F stands for FUN, FAMILY, FRIENDSHIP, FAILURE, FORTITUDE and
FUTURE. (and for this season it also stands for Floods)
FUN.
This season has been a lot of fun. A mixed bunch of Dad’s and juniors came together to form the 5th
XI this season. Most other teams in our grade seemed to be of a similar mix and all games were
played in excellent spirit. Yes every team was trying to win but there was good sportsmanship and
respect throughout the grade – well done to all teams. Experienced players in all teams encouraged
and mentored young players whether team mates or opposition. Lyndale CC won the flag with an A
grade side in F grade good work fellas I suppose you are proud of yourselves.
FAMILY
We used 20 players in the fifths this year. 12 of them are fathers/sons. Along with these family
members we had the support of many extended familys on many occasions which makes our
Saturday afternoons more enjoyable – thank you all for coming along and allowing us to share our
afternoon with you all. I am sure these family moments will be remembered fondly in the future.
We tried to engineer father son batting partnerships with varying degrees of success. One afternoon
will always be remembered because every father son pairing passed each other as one went in to bat
after the other had gone out. That day we had nine ducks in the team, probably a cave record –
better put that on the wall Bacca. But as the season progressed and we got more experience under
the belt all fathers and sons had partnerships together helping the team reach its goals.
FRIENDSHIP
This season many bonds of friendship were either made or reinforced within or team and with our
opposition.
FAILURE
Yes failure. We as a team failed on the scoreboard every time we took the field. But we were not
looking at the final score to judge success or failure. The road to the top has many potholes and you
have to ride over them to get to where you are going. Every player, no matter what age, learned
from every slip up.
FORTITUDE
With strength of character we weathered the storms of the darkest times and applied ourselves to the
task at hand and by half way through the season we had improved a huge amount. This
improvement only possible because of the courage by all of us to fight and concentrate and prevail.
FUTURE.
We will press on next season and improve exponentially again. From this team will come many
successful first and second eleven players for the cave and maybe players who are able to progress
beyond our level.
I won’t go into match details for the season – you can see them on the interweb any time. But there
are incidents from the season that are highlights that ought to be noted.
Nick Bergman played his forst game for the cave against his old club Mordialloc and demonstrated
application in his batting that he had never used before – well done Nick in unlocking that ability to
concentrate.
Paul McCarthy played one game with Tom and proved to be a very good fields man and struck the
ball well with the bat – better suit up again next year.
Liam Hullet showed us what he is capable of with bat and ball in his one game. Good luck at
Carrum Liam.
Adrian (Bug or the Stig) Cole helped out in one game and gave us all a demonstration of how to
field if we want to play firsts. Also handy with inswingers and outswingers when bowling.
37 / 45
Tyler Brodie showed us what a future star he is by taking wickets, catches and batting with great
skill and determination.
Patrick Keane bowled very well with his tall action hitting the seam at a good length rewarded by 3
wickets for the year.
Mackenzie Palmer played some late games and looks like a handy bowler for next year.
Foxy quickly got the hang of senior cricket as a batsmen and has a range of shots and a rock solid
defence and a never give up attitude which frustrated many opposition bowler this year.
Dan Maloney prowled the outfield at mid off most of the season and his efforts were rewarded with
a catch against North Dandenong. We look forward to his first runs off the bat next year.
Bill Sheldon struggled with the bat it is fair to say but he shows handy footwork when fielding the
ball. But what we saw in Bill was a ripping leg break that jumps up at the batsmen like a guard dog.
I predict a few Blinky wickets next year as he will get a lot more overs.
Justin Balsille started out not being able to field the ball on the ground. However he worked hard at
his technique and busted his gut at training and in the end he was our most reliable fielder. JB also
showed stubbornness with the bat and placed great value on his wicket.
DC you legend – he is the whole house and land package bowling batting fielding allrounder.
Tom Mac my vice captain. Worked hard throughout the year on his bowling and batting. Looking
for a breakout year for Tom next season. Fantastic work in field.
Boofer took some big steps this year – Early in the season his tight bowling was a feature – then he
took the gloves off me and became a fine wicket keeper, taking 8 catches with the gloves plus a
stumping. Though he did not put many runs on the board Boofer held out many a bowler and batted
for long spells. However his best efforts were sledging his old man Hotdog. Very very sharp wit!
Tom Mullins played only one game at the start of the season and we hope to see him as a regular in
the seniors next year.
Sam Maloney All round batsmen, fielder and seam bowler who topped his season off with a hat-
trick in the last game. Expect to see Sam in many a first eleven win for the Cave in years to come.
Riley Sheldon – highlighted with 16 and 31 against Lynbrook and 4/47 against Berwick springs. A
very good spin bowler that will get plenty of overs next year.
Will Balsille a fantastic new ball bowler in the making who developed the ability to swing the ball
both ways at good pace. Will also showed great skill and determination with the bat – batting for
long innings on several occasions. He also showed great courage when batting against the F grade
show offs (Lyndale) when he got hit in the landing gear by the fasted bowler in the grade. Super star
in the making.
And Finally Hot Dog who reluctantly made himself available to help out – not only as a player but
as a mentor and coach to the less experienced players. Hotty was sore every Sunday, Monday
Tuesday after playing – we appreciate all you brought to the team Hotdog.
Best Afternoon tea – tie between Maloneys and McCarthys
Worst afternoon Tea – Lyndale – they put slices of bread on the table with a tub of marg, a plate of
lettuce and some slices of cheese and we had to make our own.
Well done every one I will see you all again next year.
Wooosh.

UNDER 16 SEASON REPORT SEASON 2010-11
Firstly there are a lot of people who have contributed to the task of putting two under 16 teams on
the field this season, and I must take a moment to acknowledge these people and their efforts. I
thank Steve Gray firstly for managing the Under 16 Yellow team so well. Steve’s contribution over
the last few years has had a significant impact on the players as cricketers and young men. Many
other people have helped throughout the season including (in no particular order) Nick Bergman,
Damian Harris, Rod Dale, Bill Sheldon, Dan Maloney, Chris Mullins, Noel Brodie, Justin Balsille,
Hot Dog and James Barker who assisted when he was injured and could not play.
In a rain interrupted season it was difficult to get the best training program implemented given the
condition of the run-ups in the nets and the often soggy outfield. Generally the attitude at training
was very good and I could see that the skills across the squad have improved. Good training habits
and routines are becoming second nature to most and we will continue to work on this throughout
next season with the objective being that all players will take this attitude with them into their
senior cricket life.
Game day concentration has been a problem this season and I believe both sides squandered good
opportunities to win games due to poor concentration. Looking back at the season I can see that had
we been able to turn a couple of losses into wins for each team we could have had two teams in the
finals. The Yellow team missed out on finals by percentage only and the Blue team missed by 1½
games but with a healthy percentage. Having said that, the players are very young, most being first
year under 16s and under 14 players. It is my expectation that if the players work hard and continue
to improve all facets of their skills then all players should play finals next year. I normally would
not make a statement like this prior to a season but it is important to set achievable goals and I
believe we should be working towards finals in 2011/12.
I am proud of each of all the players and hope to see everyone back next year.
Congratulations to both Angus Scott and Josh Tripcony for completing their final year of junior
cricket at the cave.
Angus is an express bowler with enough talent to get him into a district club for sure – and he is one
of the best pinch hitters with the bat that I have ever seen, however he is devoted to his footy at this
stage and I wish him well in achieving his personal goals. Of course Angus is always welcome at
the cave to play senior cricket.
Josh Tripcony was the captain of the Blue team this year and showed great leadership. As the year
progressed Josh grew into the role and earned the respect of all the players in the team. Well done
Josh and we hope to see you around the cave for many years.
I will be applying for the role of coach again next season. If I am privileged to be offered the
position it will be my last season coaching junior cricket.
Thank you for the pleasure of coaching you all this season.
Wooosh.

UNDER 16 BLUE SEASON 2010-11
Round 1 Loss
The season started with a rematch of last seasons under 14 grand final – our own local derby.
St Brigids Blue batted first making 5/95 lost to St Brigids Yellow 5/98
Bailly Dale 31 not out, Josh Tripcony 11 not out and Connor Brown 10 not out
Josh Trip 2/9, 3 overs. Mackenzie Palmer 1/7, 2 overs. James Barker 1/12 , 3 overs. Riley bowled 3
overs for 4 runs.
This game was lost in the last over with all the bowlers keeping it tight.
Round 2 Win
Easp RSL 8/86 lost to St Brigids Blue 2/120
Angus Scott 3/6 off 3. Tom Oliver 1/8 off 3, Tom Lamb 1/1 off 2. Riley 1/4 off 2. Josh Furman
1/13 off 3. Connor 1/2 off 1.
Bailey 33*, Lamby 32*, Connor 28*
A blistering spell from Angus Scott ripped the life out of their top order, then a solid batting
performance by bailly and Connor and Lamby put some quick runs on the board.
Round 3 Win
Chelsea YCW 8/91 lost to St Brigids Blue 4/99
Tripper 2/3 off 2, Angus 1/7 off 3, Jack Holden 1/15 off 4, Jackson Lewis 1/18 off 2, Josh Furman
1/2 off 2, Lamby 1/13 off 4, Connor 1/0 off 0.4
Lamby 30*, Tripper 15*, Connor 20, Angus 15*
A great all round performance.
Round 4 Loss
St Brigids Blue 3/120 lost to Mentone 5/133
Connor 25*, Bailey 19*, Lochie 14*, Liam 11* and Jack Holden 11*
Lochie 2/25 off 3, Lamby 1/2 off 4, Connor 1/4 off 2, Tom Oliver 1/5 off 2.
A very safely compiled 120 runs on the board was a reasonable score but probably slightly below
par. Everyone contributed to partnerships throughout the innings which was pleasing. 3 of the
Mentone batsmen took full advantage of some half volleys and just got them over the line. Great
effort by Tom Oliver, Tom Lamb and Connor with the ball.
Round 5 Tie
St Brigids Blue 8/133 Tied Mordialloc all out 133
Bailey 35*, Tom Lamb 25, Jack Holden 23, Connor 12*
Tom Lamb 4/11 off 8, Josh Tripcony 2/12 off 7, Josh Furman 1/23 off 3. Tom Oliver got a run out
with a direct hit.
An exciting game that went down to the last over - Great fielding and bowling by every one.
Round 6 Draw
St Brigids Blue 8/119
Tom Lamb 38*, Connor 15, Jack Holden 16, Tripper 13*, Foxy 6*.
On a very, very slow ground 119 was an excellent score that would have been difficult to beat –
however the heavens opened up and we were unable to get the full benefit of such a great innings.
Round 7 Washed out
Round 8 Loss
40 / 45
Chelsea Heights 4/140 def St Brigids Blue 58
Josh Tripcony 2/15, Josh Furman 1/13, Bailey 0/4 off 2, Jackson Lewis 0/7 off 2, Sam Maloney 0/8
off 2, Will Balsille 0/14 off 4, Angus Scott 0/19 off 5.
Angus Scott 20 runs.
We were beaten soundly by the eventual premiers in this game but we saw many off the younger
and lesser known bowlers perform excellently with the ball against tough opposition. This was a
good game for the team and the experience gained will be a huge benefit in the future.
Round 9 Win
Mordialloc 8/98 lost to St Brigids Blue 1/103
Tom Lamb 5/20 off 7, Trippa 2/24 off 6, Jack Holden 2/9 off 3, Sam Maloney 0/4 off 2, Tom
Oliver 0/13 off 3, Angus Scott 0/6 off 2.
Lamby 30*, Trippa 26*, Angus 22*
A good win set up by lamby’s bowling and batting along with very tight bowling from the others.
Round 10 Loss
St Brigids Blue 5/36 (all out) lost to Cheltneham 3/44
Bailey 12 not out, Riley 9 (including a huuuge 6),
Sam Maloney 1/13 off 5, Trippa 1/14 off 5, Lamby 1/15 off 4 and Riley 0/2 off 1
The game that was interrupted by torrential rain early on day one, after we had lost a few early
wickets. Interestingly enough the manager of Chelt had asked for an agreement about having a one
day game on day two if rain interrupted play before a certain number of overs were bowled. I
thought that was a good idea and we shook on that. We lost a few early wickets then it bucketed
down. We come back next week for a one day game and Cheltenham had changed their mind about
the one day game agreement. A good lesson for me and the players to trust no one. We quickly lost
our remaining wicket before any of our additional players arrived and the task of defending 36 runs
began. This was a great lesson for all the players about how to go about trying to take wickets with
only 7 in the field (Chelt did lend us 2 players so we had the minimum number – so kind). Almost
all of the players took the challenge on head first. It is hard to hide lack of determination and desire
when you only have 5 players. I am very proud of the 4 players who were committed to the
challenge right from the start and I look forward to seeing those players do well in their cricketing
futures.
Sam Maloney took a wicket with his first over and the boys were keen to press. Tripper followed up
with a wicket in his 3rd
over and we had them 2/12 off 5 overs. We got one more wicket just before
they passed our score. It did take them 14 overs with only seven fieldsmen which is a credit to the
discipline with which we bowled and to Trippers good captaincy. Well done to all. These are the
times that you learn the most about how to compete.
Round 11 Loss
Mentone 10/157 defeated St Brigids Blue 9/153
Tom Lamb 4/8 off 5, James Barker 1/11 off 5, Josh Firman 1/15 off 3, Tripper 1/16 off 4, Ben
O’Brien 1/16 off 4, Kyle 1/17 off 4, Connor 1/20 off 3, Patrick Keane 0/8 off 3.
Lamby 35, Tripper 29, Ben o’Brien 23, Kyle 17, James 5*
We would have liked to finish with a win for Josh Tripconys last game of junior cricket for the
cave, however we didn’t quite make it. A good all round bowling effort ensured we had a very
gettable target to chase. Tripper did himself proud with the bat holding our innings together after
losing a couple of early wickets. Tom Lamb and Ben O’Brien looked like they were on top but lost
their wickets before retirement. Kyle and James barker put on 29 runs for the final partnership and
looked like stealing the win. James was solid as a rock at one end and Kyle was pacing himself
well. But then he holed out on the boundary 4 runs short of the victory.
41 / 45
The statistics tell us that Tom lamb won the batting and bowling awards – well done Tom.
All the players performed well and improved throughout the season.
I gave the Coaches award to Bailey Dale due to his quite achiever character and his selfless team
spirit. Well done Bailey I have enjoyed coaching you over the past few years and wish you well.
Fairwell Season 10/11 – we let a few chances slip away, but we all learn as we go along and this
season will stand all in good stead for the future.
Thank you for the opportunity to coach you all.

Under 16 Yellow Season Review 2010/2011
In round 1 we played our other team, the Blue team in a one day match. It was very close and we
had a good win by 3 runs. Lochie and Liam batted well and Boofa chimed in with 2 wickets.
In round 2 vs Mordialloc, another one dayer. We didn’t get enough runs and Mordy chased us
down. Kyle made some good runs and Liam and Ben O’Brien each got a couple of wickets.
In round 3, another one dayer, and a great win against Cheltenham. Liam bowled well for 3 wickets
and we were in trouble chasing them down. Ben O’Brien got us off to a good start with 25 no and
then James Barker survived an early chance to smash their star bowler all over the park and we got
the runs comfortably. James made 30 no.
Round 4 was a Bye.
In round 5 vs Chelsea YCW, the match was shortened due to rain. We bowled really well restricting
them to 107. James starred again with 4 wickets, supported by Aaron and Tom Mc. It was a
struggle getting the runs. Lochie made a solid 24 and Ben O’Brien was great with 31. Kyle arrived
late after footy training and teamed with Mack Palmer for the last wicket to smash a few fours in
the last over for us to win by 6 runs. Best win for the season.
In round 6 vs Chelsea Heights we came up against the top team. They were way too good, skittling
us for 34 and then getting the runs easily on day 1 with day 2 a complete washout.
In round 7 vs Mordialloc another close game. We thought we had enough runs with Lochie getting
50 no, Liam 33 and Josh Trip 20. After a great start we had them 5/39 but the boys relaxed and
started mucking around. A good partnership got going and we ended up losing by 5 runs. James
was the pick of the bowlers with 2/25.
In round 8, vs Mentone another very close one dayer. We got them all out for 116 with good
bowling and catching. Keano took 2 wickets . We only just got the runs in the last over with Kyle
and Lochie both getting 30 no.
In round 9 vs Chelsea / AERSL we thought it would be a comfortable win as they had not won a
game. Unfortunately, we had a few injuries and they had some good players come back. We didn’t
get enough runs. Lochie starred with 30no in about 2 overs, Kyle got 22no and Mack Palmer got his
highest score with 19. They chased down the runs pretty easily. Kyle got 2 wickets. A special
mention to our boys for their spirit of cricket award for this game.
In round 10 vs Chelsea YCW, our last game for the season with a Bye in round 11, we had to win to
be a chance for the finals. Again not enough runs, but Kyle got 50no and Lochie 34 no. They
chased us down with 2 overs to spare. Josh Furman did well with 2 wickets.
We ended up 6th
on the ladder, half a game out of the four. It was a great season by our boys, as all
were bottom age players so they get to play Under 16s again next season. Congratulations to Kyle
who won the FDCA league batting average.
Well done boys and hope to see you all again next season.
Steve Gray
Congratulations to all those who were involved in this game: Ben O’Brien, Kyle Gray, Lochie
Brodie, Mack Palmer, Ben Dickson, Tom Mullins, Tom McCarthy, Aaron Leahy, Pat Keane, Ben
Lwarence.

U14 2010-2011
Hi all
2010/2011 was a real commitment type of season as the inclement weather forced quite a few
cancelations of games.
It also turned a lot of 2 dayers into 1 dayers but of course every team had the same trouble
I was very proud of the effort and courageous style they went into these games with Jackson Lewis
receiving the coaches award that was well deserved as his style rose by leaps and bounds as the
season went on
We had to top up the numbers with some under 12s which could of been quite daunting to these
guys being a few years younger but that didn’t deter them in anyway and they were permanent -
members of the team with the likes of Matt Moloney, Morgan Sheldon, Ethan Hersey-Kilner and
Tyler Brodie from the u12s they did a solid jobs of presenting a good opposition to competing
clubs.
While most of our team was at the bottom end of the age group we still put up a stella performance
which is why this year most of the lads are still in that age bracket and I feel a lot of opposition
teams will have moved on a age bracket so hopefully it puts us in the box seat as experience goes
Another excellent exercise was under taken was encouragement of Woosh for the boys to play in
his 5ths senior team with Will Balsillie, Riley Sheldon, Sam Moloney, James Vanminnen, Ben
Lawrence and even Tyler Brodie lined up with us, a mixture of old blokes and burgeoning cricket
stars. That was a really enjoyable season with actually playing with the boys and of course our
sons but getting a different perspective on the game by being on the field too. Woosh does a
brilliant job not only coaching the juniors but actively being involved in encouraging the junior boys
to play on senior level cricket huge thanks to Woosh .
With the 2011/2012 season I feel this will be our year to perform and get rewarded for the efforts of
the past good luck to the u14s and also all teams at St Bridges St Louis Cricket Club also the
efforts of past president Matt Orfanellis and our new president Noel Fitzgibbon.
Go the saints

S.B.S.L. Cricket Club U12 Presentation Night Report –Rookies, U12B & U12A
2010/2011
I’d like to welcome everyone here tonight to acknowledge the performances of our junior players,
who will undoubtedly be the backbone of our senior club in years to come.
It was an unusual season with so many games affected by bad weather causing many to be
postponed or abandoned due to the poor conditions. The reduced number of games played has had
an impact on the winners in some age groups so I’m sorry to the players who just missed out on
awards due to this. Never the less there were many great performances which are highlighted in
tonight’s awards.
I have thoroughly enjoyed coaching the U12 squad again this season & although we weren’t
successful in terms of wining a lot of games, the players never lost their enthusiasm & were willing
participants & always up for the challenge.
Although success can’t be measured in winning alone, it’s great for their confidence & a just reward
for the efforts they make.
I hope the boys will take a lot away from this season & feel sure that if they persevere, the success
they strive for is just around the corner.
Next season the U12’s will lose 6 boys up to the next age group so best of luck to Jack, Tyler
Brodie, Jordan, Tyler Seignior, Kacey & Morgan and hope you continue to enjoy your cricket with
the U14’s later this year.
To organize a game of cricket it requires a lot of help with training & at the games, with umpiring
& scoring & there were many people involved. I would like to thank all the parents for their
contributions but in particular Dan Moloney, Bill Sheldon, Justin Balsillie, Dave Anderson & Eddy
Vella who provided support throughout the season.
As a parent I would also like to thank the committee for their support of the junior teams.
All junior age groups participated in the Zaidee’s T12, T14 & T16 Rainbow cup which was played
throughout the course of the season. There was also a T10 series which got the Rookies involved &
although there appears to be differing views on whether this style of cricket is good for their
development, the players all seem to enjoy the fast past of these games.
The Rookies started this season with only a handful of players and in fact had to forfeit the first
game due to the low numbers.
The club ran the Milo in2cricket program again this year thanks to Lucas Johnson & it was a great
success with about 28 participants.
Through Milo we were able to recruit a couple of boys to join the Rookies team but the major
influence on team numbers was thanks to one of the players. Hamish Balsillie personally undertook
a recruitment drive to snag some more players & produced a flyer which he distributed at school.
Within a short space of time the team had grown to a healthy 12 players which was a great effort &
a credit to Hamish who showed great leadership both on & off the field.
Now lets start the awards.
The club would like to present an award to the Rookie players to acknowledge the start of their
cricketing journey at our club. There have been many great performances & look forward to this
group of boys moving to the higher ranks in the years to come.
Rookies Participation Awards go to: Hamish Balsillie, Mitchell Bean, Gavin Bound, Luke Byrnes, Andrew Loffel, Riley Pickett, Daniel
Renzella,
Hayden Seerup, Hayden Vella, Vikrant Vinodhram, Ben Keen & Mitchell Sellars
U12B awards.
I will start with the bowling: This years winner is someone who is very passionate about his cricket
& has put in over the season with his best figures of 3/10 off 4 overs. He took 5 wickets for 174
runs with an average of 34.8 & is a new member to our club this season. I’m very happy to award the bowling average for U12B’s to Charlie Palmer.
Now the batting: All the guys love to have a bat so it's great to see them stay at the crease & make a few runs. This years winner will be a great player in the coming years & had 9 innings, made 117
45 / 45
runs, 4 not outs & a highest score of 24 with an average of 23.4, the U12B’s award goes to Jeremy
Cullen.
The coaches award: It's always a difficult choice with so many deserving candidates. This player is
always enthusiastic & a pleasure to coach so I am pleased to give this award to Jack Batten.
Now for the U12A awards.
Starting with the bowling: This years winner has also put in over the season with his best figures of
2/9 off 4 overs and has worked hard at his cricket for many years & is a deserving recipient. Taking
9 wickets for 136 runs with an average of 15.1, the U12A bowling average goes to Morgan
Sheldon.
Now the batting: There have been many great innings throughout the season. This years winner has
had 9 innings, made 94 runs, 5 not outs, highest score of 30 no with an average of 23.5. The
U12A’s award goes to a player who is following a family tradition of great batsmen, so it gives me
great pleasure to award this to Tyler Brodie.
Finally the coaches award: Over the years this player has sometimes struggled to bowl 6 balls on
the pitch. He hasn’t let that deter him & has worked hard & improved year after year. In the 2nd
last
round I enjoyed watching him bowl an over of consistently good deliveries rewarding him for his
perseverance. I am pleased to give this award to Kacey Sheldon.
Can I finish by saying how lucky we all are to have a group of such enthusiastic & talented players.
I really enjoy the opportunity to be involved in your cricketing journey & to share this with my son
Ethan.
Hope to see you all down at the Cave next season.
