Founders Hall is a donor-supported education and recreation center open, without charge, to individuals 60 years of age or older in the Ridgefi eld area. Founders Hall was built in 2002 by Founders Hall Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profi t partnership of the Couri and Goldstone families. Th e foundation operates Founders Hall with fi nancial support from the families as well as from its members, civic-minded corporations, foundations and individuals.

Our summer semester begins on June 22. Check the course book for details and return your registration by 4:30pm on Monday, June 8. Until summer classes begin, there are plenty of special events including two performances, a travelogue on sights from Hungary to Holland, a Textile Tea featuring members’ handwork and a new member coff ee. If you enjoy watching PBS’ Antiques Roadshow, come to the Founders Hall version on June 24. It’s a fun and fascinating afternoon that also raises some funds for Founders Hall. You’ll fi nd all the details in these pages. Happy summer!

During May’s anual meeting, about 70 members heard a review of our 2014 fi scal year from Board of Directors chairman Steven Goldstone, Board president John Couri, executive director Grace Weber, and development director Lynda Gutman. Highlights are below; you can read details in the 2014 giving report, which has been mailed to you.

• Steve introduced three new board members, and acknowledged contributions of all board members, describing them as, “active, interested and loving people...” He reviewed highlights of giving, including the number of member donors, impact of donations of $100 and less, and growth of legacy giving.

• John reviewed 2014 income and expenses. He explained the need to build a reserve of one million dollars, which will allow for diversifi ed investment that will generate funds for the future.

• Grace reviewed new programs, and described 2014 as, “a year of planning.” She announced that programming will expand into evenings in the fall semester, and will include a partnership with professors from Western CT State University. Grace thanked members, volunteers, instructors and staff for their ongoing commitment to Founders Hall.

• Lynda praised members for exceeding the goals of 2014’s fundraising campaigns, and implored them to encourage family and friends to support Founders Hall.

• Members expressed appreciation for Founders Hall, its directors and staff , and asked questions about parking, shuttles, membership growth, staffi ng, and ability to make online donations. Steve acknowledged that the board and the town are aware of parking and growth-related issues. “It will get a little better,” said Steve, “but it’s still an issue.”

Message from Grace

Battle of the Chefs

In a fast and fi ery competition, chef Bernard Bouissou (seated left) edged out competitors Silvia Bianco (seated right) and Prasad Chirnomula (seated center) to take home the Battle trophy. But, you are the real winner of this year’s Battle, which raised $43,000 for the programs you enjoy at Founders Hall. Please join us in thanking the talented chefs and sous chefs (back row), engaging emcee, discerning judges, Founders Hall-loving ticket buyers, hard-working volunteers as well as sponsors Fairfi eld County Bank, Th e Chefs’ Warehouse, and dozens of local business that donated cash, supplies and services. As the saying goes, “It takes a village...” (and three amazing chefs)! More photos are posted on Facebook: Founders Hall Ridgefi eld.
