FOUNDING FATHERS
George WashingtonWas the first president of the United States.
John Adams was George Washington’s vice president.
Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independent.
James Madison was the 4th president of the United States
REGIONS OF THE 13 COLONIES
New England- The colonies were Massachusetts, Connecticut,
New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.
Middle Colonies- The colonies were New York, Pennsylvania,
New Jersey, and Delaware.
Southern Colonies- They included Maryland, Virginia, North and
South Carolina, and Georgia.

New England- was known for fishing and whaling.
Middle colonies- were largely agricultural and planted many
crops.
Southern colonies had big indigo, cotton, rice, and tobacco.
SLAVERY
Slavery came to America because the plantations in the south
needed workers.
The South became more and more dependent on slaves because
they owned large plantations.
JOBS
Tools included saws, braces, augers, gimlets, chisels, gauges,
compasses, hammers, and calipers.
Blacksmith –purpose is to make tools and horseshoes.
Gunsmith- purpose is to make guns.
Tailor- purpose is to make clothes.
MUSIC
Snare drums were used in the military for keeping
the beat and helping them march.
The fife was also used in the military
and played tunes for the soldiers.
The base drum was another type of drum in the
military.
SHELTER AND HOUSES
The poor used anything they could find as shelter.
The middle class owned one or two room houses.
The rich lived on large plantations and large houses.
EDUCATION
Girls didn’t go to school, they had to learn to make food and
clean around the house at a young age.
Boys learned to read so they could read the Bible.
CLOTHS
The woman wore gowns and hats.
Men wore suits and tights and robes.
Wigs were in fashion then so all the gentlemen had them.
