An automotive services provider leverages the power of the cloudA provider of a software-as-a-service (SaaS)-based inventory management system used by more than 6,500 dealers across the US, Canada and Australia inherited an on-premises database as a result of an acquisition. However, it needed an enterprise-class, cloud-based solution that could handle the demands of its 185,000 users. It wanted a unified development environment, including a high-performance database to minimize latency and maintain an excellent customer experience.

By implementing IBM® DB2® on Cloud software, the company seamlessly ported the on-premises application to the cloud, achieving substantial performance gains. The company now has an active, innovative cloud environment with the capacity and capabilities to keep its employees and customers happy, along with a single monthly expense. And because IBM manages the back-end DevOps infrastructure, company staff can focus on driving the business forward.

A consumer goods distributor creates a consolidated view of enterprise dataWith its distribution business expanding rapidly across Europe, Orbico Group found obtaining clear visibility into cross-enterprise activity and keeping its complex operations running efficiently were stiff challenges. To bring greater consistency and accuracy to group-wide reporting, Orbico worked with IBM to deploy IBM InfoSphere® DataStage®, which

integrates data across multiple systems. Teams at every level of the enterprise now have access to consistent, up-to-date information. The solution enables finance, sales, receivables and inventory data from individual companies to be standardized and stored in a single database in a unified way. By consolidating data, the company has also obtained a better rating from financial institutions, and has been able to take advantage of a reduced cost of credit.

“Now that we have a solid data foundation in place, we can take advantage of IBM Analytics solutions to gain new insight into our business, analyzing operational performance to make sharper decisions and improve planning.”—Romina Oreskovic, Group Finance Director, Orbico

A government agency cuts costs and improves security with a content management solutionA regional government agency in the UK found that its content management system had an extremely low rate of adoption, as employees preferred to store content on shared drives and third-party systems procured without IT involvement. This ad hoc approach put security and compliance at risk. Working with IBM, the agency implemented a pilot deployment of Box online file sharing software, helping to

establish a single, central repository for its documents. Internal and external users can now share information more securely and efficiently, streamlining and speeding up document-centric processes such as court file distribution and social care case management. The new system also saves the agency the money it previously spent on managing multiple systems. In addition, the ability to integrate the capabilities of Box with IBM Enterprise Content Management (ECM) products supports the agency’s long-term digital transformation goals.

A healthcare claims processor consolidates data for fast decision makingAdvent Health Partners wanted to help hospitals recoup more revenue on services delivered and give insurers accurate information to make more-informed decisions. Claims-related data scattered across different locations made it difficult for analysts to bring together all the information they needed to make an accurate claims decision. This challenge led the company to develop a new smart search technology that integrates multiple sources of data, indexes them and simplifies access to disparate data related to a claim.

3 Move with market- changing speed and agility

At the heart of this revolutionary technology is IBM Cloudant, a NoSQL database platform built for the cloud. Because IBM offers the platform as a managed cloud service, Advent doesn’t have to invest precious time and resources in database management. The company can make claims data available to non-technical users and dramatically accelerate the amount of time required to identify claims that are candidates for appeal. What’s more, the company can market the platform as a stand-alone product for hospitals to use in-house, opening a new revenue channel.

Business benefits

A consulting firm accelerates financial expertise with a cloud data warehouseFor a data and analytics consulting firm, solving difficult business challenges is much easier with the right infrastructure. One of BPM Northwest’s financial clients needed to find a way to turn hundreds of spreadsheets into a single file that could be

imported into the client’s planning system. The existing process was highly inefficient and took days to complete.

Using the IBM Bluemix® cloud application development platform and IBM dashDB, a fully managed cloud data warehouse, BPM cut the client’s existing two-week manual

process down to a two-day service. The fast analytics capabilities allowed BPM to give its client high-speed insights and in-database analytics, helping to dramatically reduce report development time and increase efficiency. The solution also helped BPM accelerate its own time to market, giving it an important competitive advantage.

“Our client, a wealth management company, needed to bring general ledger data from their accounting system into their financial planning system. Leveraging cloud data services, BPM Northwest automated the cloud data integration process, saving the wealth management client an estimated 25 percent on their financial closing process, compared to paying internal resources or an external service provider to perform the same task.”—Matt Mercier, CTO, BPM Northwest

“Running on the IBM infrastructure effectively gives us limitless scalability... We simply couldn’t have accomplished the project without this scalable cloud solution.”—Ravi Vatrapu, Professor, Department of IT Management, CBS

Open data and analytics services help improve sustainability and customer experienceEach year, 130,000 visitors head to the Roskilde Festival in Denmark for 10 days of music and cultural celebration. The Copenhagen Business School (CBS) decided to turn the 2015 festival into an urban sustainability laboratory. To do so, the school needed to capture and process vast amounts of data for open-ended analysis.

Data sources included ticket sales, vendor sales, social media feeds and a location-aware mobile application.

IBM delivered a highly flexible and scalable cloud-based solution. Data was stored in IBM dashDB, a fully managed cloud data warehouse, and connected to IBM SPSS® predictive analytics tools. IBM Watson Analytics™ provided natural-language processing and visual analysis capabilities.

By analyzing the immense amount of collected data, researchers uncovered valuable trends in crowd movements, correlating activity to specific performances, weather conditions, time of day and other factors. The analytics can even alert app users to avoid muddy areas after a rainstorm. Predictive models using crowd data can proactively direct security resources to the most popular performances and highest-traffic areas.

Vendors can use predictive algorithms to determine the best mix of foods and beverages to prepare based on the time of day, upcoming events and weather conditions. By understanding when and where particular items are likely to sell, vendors can optimize delivery schedules, minimize spoilage, reduce energy use and cut food waste.

A global bank drives business growth with new customer insights To help fuel international growth, Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) sought to establish a global customer register that would provide a holistic view of its clients across markets. The company embarked on a master data management (MDM) project to provide a single view of customers, but faced challenges in adapting disparate global systems and in

managing the variety of data protection regulations across national borders. ANZ worked with IBM to enable users around the world to search for customer records in all of the bank’s systems, and identify which clients are working with which parts of the business in which geographies. Data stays in country and global systems do not have to change, yet ANZ users can quickly find client information to provide more personalized service.
