The U.S. is the largest mission field in the Western Hemisphere and the 5th largest in the world, but sadly, 3,500 – 4,000 churches are closing each year in the U.S. 1

our vision to plant

the need• It’s estimated that over 400,000 Ethiopians live in the DC metro area with

many concentrated in Silver Spring, MD. It’s the second largest population group of Ethiopians next to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.

• Only 1-2% of the Ethiopian population in the DC metro area is believed to be regularly attending existing evangelical churches, compared to the 20% evangelical community back home in Ethiopia.

• Without proper spiritual direction, most of the professing believers who are recently migrating are trapped in the pursuit of ‘The American dream’ running after work and money, losing their faith and passion for Christ.

• The second generation of Ethiopians, born and growing up here, are confused between two cultures, knowing little of life with God.

• The D.C. metro area is strategically important to the whole Ethiopian community in the U.S., with the Ethiopian embassy located in DC, and being the port of entry to the daily flight of the Ethiopian Airlines direct from Addis Ababa with an average of over two hundred-fifty people aboard everyday.

Our VisionWe envision reaching Ethiopians* with the gospel so they become God’s sons and daughters who conform to the image of God’s Son Jesus. We believe planting a gospel-centered church that makes disciples among Ethiopians in the D.C. / Silver Spring area will best enable this vision to become a reality.
