Fabrics & Materials ListThe following color coded quilt layout plan is offered to show where each fabric is used inthe sample quilt. This will also help you plan in case you would like to substitute anyfabrics. The list to the right cites each of the Fibs & Fables fabrics by SKU and colorname. All yardages are listed as cut yardage, though in some cases scrap and fatquarters would suffice.

In addition to the fabrics listed to complete the quilt top, here are further materials:– 1 yard WOAH002 in Plum for sashing and bias cut binding– 1 1/3 yards for backing for a quilt without sashing or 2 2/3 yards with sashing– 60” x 60” quilt batting

Cutting:1. From PWAH097/water cut:

– one rectangle measuring 6.5” x 43”, on width of fabric (for sky)– four 2.5” squares (for castle detail background)– eight 3.5” squares (for tower peak background)

2. From PWAH094/sleepy cut (match print where desired for landscape components):– one rectangle measuring 10” x 43”, on width of fabric – one rectangle measuring 9.5” x 18.5”– two squares measuring 6.5”

3. From PWAH099/algae cut:

– one rectangle measuring 16.5” x 18.” (for castle center)– four rectangles measuring 3” x 18.5” (for shorter towers)– five 2.5” squares (for castle detail)

4. From PWAH098/midnight cut:– four rectangles measuring 3” x 24.5” (on lengthwise if using the Escape print)

5. From PWAH102/flax cut two 1.5” x 18.5” strip from the lengthwise of fabric (braids).(Notice the above is for two matching braids on shorter towers, however mine do not match. Ifyou would like a variety of braid colors, purchase and cut from al 3 colorways.)6. From PWAH102/silver cut:

– two 1.5” x 24.5” strip from the lengthwise of fabric (braids)7. From PWAH100/petunia cut:

– two rectangles measuring 3.5” x 6.5” (taller tower peaks)8. From PWAH100/aqua cut:

– two rectangles measuring 3.5” x 6.5” (shorter tower peaks)9. From PWAH096/fire cut:

– one rectangle measuring 10” (crosswise on fabric) X 12” (lengthwise on fabric)(this is the archway fabric)

1. Building the Castle:

1. Sew 2.5” squares from castle detail fabric andbackground detail fabric together, one to the next, alternating between the two but beginning andending with the castle detail fabric. Finished lengthshould be 18.5”. Set castle detail aside.

2. Position the Archway template centered ontobottom edge of the of the castle center piece(making sure that you have the bottom edge as oneof the 18.5” sides). Lightly trace a chalk line aroundthe archway.

3. Now trim away the fabric within the center of thearchway up to 1/4” away from the drawn line. Nowalso clip carefully into the ¼ fabric border almostright up to the drawn line, all around the curvededges about every inch or so.

4. Use an iron to press this clipped 1/4” edgesmoothly back against the wrong side of the castlecenter piece. Press the edge back enough so thatyou are just hiding your traced line, and making asmooth curve and a defined crease by pressing fromboth sides.

5. Layer the right side of the archway fabric behindthe archway opening and against the wrong side ofthe castle center. Smooth them together, makingsure the orientation of the archway print is asdesired, and also making sure the archway fabriccontinues to the bottom edge of the caste center.Pin the layers together all around the folded backseam allowance so that the pins are point to thecenter of the archway.

6. Use your favorite machine applique stitch to sewalong the folded edge of the opening in the castlecenter fabric. You could also choose to complete thisstep with hand applique. Once reverse applique iscomplete, carefully trim away excess archway fabricto be in line with the castle seam allowance. Press.
