4-Year Plan The “4-year plan” is created during a student’s 8th grade

year. With help from the 8th grade counselor, students willconsider the different diploma options offered and generatea course selection plan for their high school years.

The plan is to be considered a draft or a general guideline.

At this time during the 8th grade year, a student’s 4-year plandoes not have to be accurate or complete.

The plan is updated every year with the grade levelcounselor.

4-Year Plan

The goal of the 4-year plan is to have students thinkabout the courses that they want to have completedby the time they are a senior.

Neither the JH nor HS uses the 4-year plan to select astudent’s courses from year to year.

Each spring, students will receive a course selectionsheet to select the specific courses for the nextschool year.

Creating a 4 Year Plan is like planning a vacation. You decide:

Where you want to go

How you want to get there

How long you will stay

What you will do while you are there

Where you will eat

Page 5: Four Year Plan and Diploma Options · 2019-10-02 · Diploma Options There are three diploma options : Advanced with Honors diploma Advanced diploma Standard diploma There is no indication

In the 4 Year Plan, you decide:

A potential career path (where you want to go)

Potential courses you will take for your 4 years in high school (how you want to get there)

Potential post high school plans (college, trade school, career…) (what you will do when you are there)

The plan will be reviewed/revised each year.

It does not lock you into any decisions or courses. It is just a plan.

4 Year Plan vs. Couse SelectionThe plan is a POTENTIAL

path of courses you think you want to take in high school.

You can change your plan as you make decisions about your future.

This plan is NOT what the school uses to enter course requests.

It is just a plan.

Course selection is where you request the courses you want to take for the next school year.

There is a deadline for changing your selections.

This IS what the school uses to enter course requests.

It is a commitment to take these courses.

4 Year Plan vs. Couse SelectionLike PLANNING a trip… Like PURCHASING the tickets

and hotel stays for a trip…

There are three diploma options : Advanced with Honors diploma Advanced diploma Standard diploma

There is no indication on a student’s transcript as towhich diploma the student has earned.

Colleges receive a high school transcript that lists allcourses taken, with 1st semester and 2nd semestergrades earned in those courses.

The transcript also reports grade point average (GPA).
