Confession of SinsP Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by

nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God. By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised. Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as many as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore. These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? TWO SERVICE SCHEDULE RESUMESSUNDAY, AUGUST 21,

with worship services at 8:15 a.m. in the Chapel and 10:45 a.m. in the Main Sanctuary. Education hour for all ages starts at 9:30 a.m.

STUDENT LUNCHES ~ This fall we will have three Student Lunches at Sunday noon after our 10:45 am worship to welcome KSU

students. First lunch will take place on August 28. On September 11 we will have a congregation potluck at noon as a fellowship event to welcome new students. On September 18 we will again have a Student Lunch at noon. Attendance is usually four to ten students or more. If you can serve on August 28 or September 18, please sign up on the sheet in the narthex.

DISCOVER DOWNTOWN KENT EVENT ~ Saturday, August 27, from 11 am to 2 pm is when Kent welcomes new KSU students to our beautiful downtown (students will be bussed from campus to downtown). Faith and Lutheran Campus Ministries will have a table to welcome students and pass out materials. If you can help us prepare for this event and staff this table, please speak to Pastor J.J. or Linda Ferlito. What a wonderful opportunity to make an impact on the new students!

First an update: Justin is entering his 3rd year of seminary education, in which he will serve as a Vicar (Intern) in a congregation in the United States. A letter from them is posted on the bulletin board in the Narthex. Extra copies are also available if you would like one.

If you were unable to contribute last Sunday, a free-will offering or "love offering" will be gathered at the door as you exit today. Checks should be made payable to "Faith Lutheran Church". This is part of our support for them during these seminary years.
