It stands for Exit: related to the Latin word Exitus, we now consider the principle of Exitus - Reditus (Exit - Return) which is part of our liturgical experience in every Mass. Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ Jesus, Who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name. (Phil 2:5-9) Christ emptied himself of heavenly glory to descend to earth, to be born of the Virgin Mary. He "Exited" heaven to dwell among us, and then, through his Death, Resurrection and Ascension, Returned to heaven to take his place at the right hand of the Father, where he constantly prays for us. We practice a type of Exit/Return motion each Sunday. We Exit the world and Return to church, to Mass, to worship with the Christian community. As a community, we greet the Lord whose Spirit descends from heaven to consecrate the Eucharist, and fills us anew with God's love. And then we Exit the church to Return to the world. There is a constant flow of Exit- Return-Exit in our liturgy, faith, and prayer. Each day we pray, we practice a similar gesture: we Exit the world in order to Return to prayer, to our special encounter with the Lord; conversely, we Exit our prayer time to Return to our life in the world. We are dismissed from Mass with the words, "The Lord be with you," and, "Go . . .Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord.We can also formulate our own Exit for our time of prayer. A simple suggestion would be the Glory Be, followed by the Sign of the Cross. Do we ever really leave prayer? Prayer need never leave us! But having a dedicated time for mental prayer—15 minutes a day or more—assures us of the development of a good habit (virtue) which gives God a lot of room in which to love us, heal us, and include us in his daily plans. This week's letter is another E. Donations for flowers and decorations for Advent

and Christmas

We invite you to help continue the tradition of Advent and Christmas beauty in our church by donating in honor of a deceased loved one, or in honor of someone who is living. If you

would like to make a donation, use the Christmas envelopes located in the pews, or call the Parish Office at 512-476-6182.

As you have noticed in our weekly bulletin, we are consistently running on a cash flow deficit. As mentioned in early Oct., we passed a balanced budget for the current fiscal year, but we have no cash reserves. This means—until weekly giving picks up—running a deficit from one week to the next in cash flow. To date our weekly collection deficit is over $22,000. The diocese suggests having a minimum 3-6 months’ general expense in reserve, which, for us, would be minimally $325,000 upwards of $500,000. We can fix this, but your help is needed to sustain our parish.

Please prayerfully consider a year-end gift to the offertory for our general expenses to not only overcome our deficit but also to build up our reserves to $500,000. The gift is tax deductible if given before Dec. 31. You can also make a donation to offertory through our website’s electronic giving option, or by con-tacting the office at 512-476-6182, to learn how to do a stock donation. Thank you in advance for your generosity towards our Cathedral parish.

Sacrament of Holy Matrimony:

The Catholic Church believes that marriages entered into by non-Catholics in their particu-lar church, or wherever they may take place, are valid. However, marriages in which one or both parties are Catholic and which are not

witnessed by an authorized bishop, priest, or deacon, or which do not receive proper permission to take place in another forum, are considered invalid in the eyes of the Catholic Church. The Church very much wants to offer the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony for those who are ready and free to do so through what is called a convalidation. The clergy and staff of Saint Mary Cathedral would like to invite any couple that is interested in convalidation to contact the office for more info. at 512-476-6182 or email [email protected].

Preparation for Total Consecration to Jesus Through Mary: In Fatima, Our Lady said, "My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God." Join thousands of faithful in our diocese for 33 days of preparation prayer for Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary. Prayers begin on Feb. 20, and are done privately, using the preparation book. Visit www.TexasToJesusThroughMary.org by Jan. 24, to receive your free copy of the Montfort preparation prayer book. Your book will be mailed to you.

Padre Tim

Our students were happy to have completed midterm exams before leaving for Christmas break. They also ended their joint Advent project by participating in a coat drive for the Coats for Kids program. Our 8th grade students delivered the coats and helped organize them for pick up.

Vocation Discernment

Respect Life

High School Men’s Discernment Dinner Wed., Jan. 3, 7:00-8:30pm in St. William Parish Rectory, 1105 Deer Run, Round Rock. We’ve got good food, awesome seminarians and priests and great community. It’s the perfect mix to begin (or continue) your search for who God created you to be and the greatness he’s calling you to. RSVP to Zach Rodriguez at 512-355-4476.

Prayer for Seminarians and Priests: Jesus, our great High Priest, I thank you for your gift of your priesthood to the Church. I pray for all priests and those in formation for the priesthood, especially______. Fill them with the joy of your Holy Spirit as they imitate you, the Good Shepherd, laying their lives down daily for those you have given them to serve. Let your love fill and satisfy their hearts as you teach them to give of themselves more deeply. Make them ardent yet gentle heralds of the Gospel and tender ministers of your mercy, especially toward those most in need of it. Jesus, gentle and humble of heart, make their hearts more like yours! Amen. Our Father…, Hail Mary…, Glory be… St. John Vianney, patron of priests, pray for us! Please pray for the Cathedral Seminarians: Chris Yeager on the 4th; Miguel Flores on the 5th, and Ladd Spears on the 14th of each month, respectively.

Visit the Holy Land

with Fr. Tim. Hosted by Dr. Marcellino D’Ambrosio under the spiritual leadership of Fr. Tim Nolt, April 16-26, 2018. Explore the area

Spiritual Adoption: As we prepare for the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the one who came to give us life, we prepare for the birth of our “spiritually adopted” baby. We pray for the health and safety of his/her mother and father. We pray for the family and friends who have supported the mother during this time. Your spiritually adopted baby will be born next month, nine months after his/her mother conceived him/her. The only change at birth is a change in the external life support system of the baby. He is no different now than he/she was before birth except that he breathes and eats differently. Baby is truly a miracle.

Help our homeless neighbors by donating to Catholic Charities of Central Texas, (512-651-6100, www.ccctx.org), or to our St. Vincent de Paul Society that provides bus passes and vouchers for clothing and food for the homeless. Let’s use organizations we already have to truly help homeless persons.
