PRAYER CORNER Father, all-powerful God,

your eternal Word took flesh on our earth

when the Virgin Mary placed her life

at the service of Your plan.

Lift our minds in watchful hope

to hear the voice which announces his glory

and open our minds to receive the Spirit

who prepares us for His coming.

~Divine Office, 4th Sunday of Advent

A NOTE FROM YOUR PASTOR

You have read short notices in the bulletin; you may have read a little about it in the Green Bay

Compass, and now the entrance into the Cathedral from the Resurrection Room has a new look. It has become

our Holy Door. What is going on? The Jubilee Year of Mercy has begun! It began in Rome on December 8th

with the opening of the holy doors and this past weekend, with the opening of our holy doors, we have started

this year of grace locally.

His Holiness Pope Francis is calling us to meditate upon the importance of mercy in our lives, mercy

for ourselves, and mercy toward others. Perhaps during the first months of his Pontificate he asked himself,

"What is most needed in our war torn world where civil discourse itself seems to be coming less civil?" and perhaps he heard

the answer: Mercy.

In regard to mercy in our lives, he is asking Catholics all over the world to make a good confession, offer prayers for

him and for his intentions, and then to make a pilgrimage to their Cathedrals to celebrate Mass and pass through the holy

doors. I encourage people to come with a special intention in mind. What is it you or your family especially need at this

time? What is it that our church or our country needs? Come with that intention in mind and then pray the special prayer

I wrote before passing through the Holy Door. You will find that prayer on a beautiful Holy Card that you can take home

with you as a token of this special year of grace. I pray that after you pass through our holy doors, you will receive the grace

you need. Think of Confession as an even more powerful Holy Door experience. Make a good examination of conscience

and after Confession my prayer for you is that you will experience a new plateau in your life's journey.

In regard to mercy toward others, His Holiness is calling us to reflect and better act upon the works of mercy. When

we do these works we become channels of his mercy to others. Lets find new ways to feed the hungry, give drink to the

thirsty, cloth the naked and shelter the homeless. Let us not forget to visit the sick and the imprisoned. Let us remember to

spiritually teach, correct, encourage, console, and to forgive offenses generously, bear burdens patiently and finally, to pray

for the living and the dead. Amen. Fr. Joe
