HOLY CHILD PARISH BRIDGEVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA

Merciful God, you also know us completely, through and through. Free me to trust in your love without taking it for granted. Empower me to speak the truth of my life to your heart to

experience healing. Empower me to shepherd your flock today. I ask this through the name given to the human race by which we are saved, Jesus Christ, our Lord.

I Am The Good Shepherd: The image of God as shepherd and his promise to lead his people in safety appears throughout the Bible. It is one of the most tender images of God that we can have as

he assures us of his constant care and protection in our lives. This care applies not only to us individually as his children, with the shepherd carrying us in his arms, but also to us collectively as the Church, with God leading his flock in safety. This repeated promise to shepherd his people is our guarantee that God is in charge of his Church and that he leads us no matter the circumstances. As we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! we may wonder where the Lord is leading us. While it is natural for us to resist change, it is also an opportunity for us to grow in trust of God, our shepherd and guide, that he may transform us and his Church. As we learn the decisions regarding Parish Groupings and Clergy Teams next week may we call upon our Good Shepherd to lead us and our parishes in the years ahead. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

Second Collection Next Weekend: God has given us so much and His generosity inspires us to share our gifts with others. Your support of St. Vincent de Paul makes you an instrument of God’s mercy and then you

become an answer to someone’s prayer. Please be generous next weekend during our first Fifth Sunday Collection this year. Thank you and God Bless.

Noon Mass Speaker Series: Prior to Thursday and Friday Noon Masses on April 26 & 27 and May 3 & 4, join us for an inspiring series of four talks on the promise and power of the Sacraments. Fundraiser Tickets: To purchase advance tickets for May 19th “Dinner From Rome” Fundraiser, please stop by the parish rectory office. This event will sell out, seating is limited. Cost: Adult $15, Child $10. See flyer in this bulletin for more details.

Interested in Becoming a Deacon? The Diocese of Pittsburgh is initiating the nomination and application process for admitting a new class of interested and qualified men from diocesan parishes into the Deacon Formation Program. Prospective applicants should be between 30 and 59 years old, in full communion with the Church, active in their faith, and hold at least a bachelor’s degree. They should consult their pastor about submitting a nomination on their behalf. The deadline for nominations is May 15, 2018. Applications without a pastor’s nomination will not be considered. Questions may be directed to [email protected] or 412-456-3124. For more information: www.diopitt.org/permanent-diaconate.

A Family Perspective (by Bud Ozar): Today’s gospel is a job description for Christian parents. For most people the most influential shepherds in their lives are their PAR-ENTS. Every parent is called to be a “good shepherd” to “freely lay down their life” for their children, to “love” and “know” their children and to “lead” them so “they know your voice.”
