PRAYER FOR MOTHER’S DAY

Mary, on this day when we honor all mothers, we turn to you and pray for all mothers, so that they will be able to fulfill their maternal responsibilities. We thank you for your “Yes” to the invitation of the angel which brought heaven to earth and changed human history. Dear Mother, intercede for all of our mothers. Help them to be lovers and nurturers of all human life from the moment of conception until natural death, all the while being examples for their own children. Ask your Divine Son to give them the grace to find daily strength to say “yes” to the call to sacrificial love—the very heart of the vocation of motherhood. Mary, let the strength you have known as a mother fill her body. Let the devotion you feel for our Lord fill her heart. Let the grace that surrounds you fill her spirit. We offer these prayers in Jesus’ name, in union with the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

MINISTRY NEWS

Respect Life

A Mother’s Voice A study of premature babies (25-32 weeks) by Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston shows the crucial role a mother’s voice plays in the development of auditory parts of the brain. Using audio technology in incubators to supply recordings of the mother’s voice and heartbeat seems to facilitate the formation of frontotemporal neural connections, increasing the potential for normal brain development, as compared to preemies minus the recordings. Babies actually begin hearing in the womb at just 16 weeks. Learning began in the womb for all of us. Are you praying for your spiritually adopted baby?

Sacristans—Prepare the altar and set-up before Mass; clean sacred vessels and put them away after.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion—Assist the clergy in distributing Holy Eucharist and Precious Blood during Mass. If you are interested in participating in one or more of these ministries, please contact Jeff Falanga at 352-787-6354 or email [email protected].

Anointing of the Sick is the Sacrament that is received by those who are ill or suffering. By the sacred anointing and the prayer of the priest, the whole Church commends to Christ those who are sick. With this anointing, the sick person receives the Holy Sprit’s gifts of strength, faith, peace and courage during their suffering. This Sacrament used to be called Extreme Unction or Last Rites, since it was an anointing that was given at the extreme end of our lives. At Vatican II, the Council emphasized that this anointing was for all Catholics in poor health, elderly or handicapped in any way. Because the recipient’s sins are forgiven with the anointing, only a priest (or bishop) may celebrate the Sacrament. If you (or a relative) have a scheduled operation planned and want the Anointing of the Sick, the best time to approach a priest with your request is before Mass. The priest can then arrange to anoint you immediately after Mass. With the busy schedules our priests have, this would help them tremendously and ensure that you receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
