Piecing the Blocks Note: Use a 1/4" seam allowance for all stitching.

Panel Blocks

1. Sew a 1 1/2" x 22 1/2" white strip to the long sides of the panel rectangle and 1 1/2" x 18 1/2" white strips to the top and bottom to make an 18 1/2" x 24 1/2" framed rectangle. Press seams toward the strips. Stitch the 1" x 5 1/2" white strips to left and right sides of the panel squares and 1" x 6 1/2" white strips to the top and bottom to make (4) 6 1/2" framed squares. Press seams toward the strips. (See diagrams on next page.)

2. Press the 1" x 24 1/2", 1" x 18 1/2" and 1" x 6 1/2" dark purple strips in half lengthwise with wrong sides together.

3. Place the folded 24 1/2" strips on the long sides of the framed panel rectangle with the fold toward the center of the rectangle and the raw edges aligned with the outer edges of the white frame. Pin to hold. Repeat with the

folded 18 1/2" strips on the top and bottom edges. Machine-baste in place 1/8" from the outer edge all around to complete the Center block. Repeat with the folded 6 1/2" strips on the edges of the framed panel squares to make 4 Corner blocks. Note: The folded edges of the dark purple strips will be loose flange strips around each panel piece when the blocks are stitched into the quilt.

Center Block — Make 1 Corner Block — Make 4 Flower Blocks

1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the 1 1/2" medium purple, dark purple and white squares.

2. Place a marked medium purple square right sides together on 1 corner of a 2 1/2" yellow square. Stitch on the line. Trim seam allowance 1/4" from the stitching. Press the purple triangle open. Repeat on each corner of the yellow square to complete (1) 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" center unit. Repeat to make 14 center units.

3. Repeat step 2 with marked white squares on only 2 corners of each 2 1/2" medium green square to make 56

corner units.

4. Place a marked dark purple square right sides together on 1 end of a 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" medium purple rectangle.

Sew on the line. Trim seam allowance 1/4" from the stitching. Press the dark purple triangle open. Repeat on the remaining end of the rectangle to make (1) 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" A unit. Repeat to make 56 A units.

5. Repeat step 4 with marked white squares on each 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" dark purple rectangle to make 56 B units.

6. Stitch an A unit to each B unit to make (56) 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" side units. Press seams toward the A units.

7. Sew a side unit to opposite sides of each center unit to make (14) 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" center rows. Press seams toward the side units. Stitch a corner unit to opposite sides of each remaining side unit to make (28) 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" top/bottom rows. Press seams toward the side units. Sew the center rows between top and bottom rows to make (14) 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" Flower blocks. Press seams toward the center rows.

Setting Blocks

1. Sew a 1 7/8" white triangle to 1 side of each 1 1/2" light green square. Press seam toward the triangle. Repeat on an adjacent side of each square to make (104) 2 7/8" corner triangles.

2. Center and stitch a corner triangle to opposite sides of each 3 3/8" floral square. Press seams toward the squares. Repeat on the remaining sides of the squares to make (26) 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" block centers.

3. Sew a 4 1/2" x WOF white strip lengthwise between (2) 1 1/2" x WOF light green strips to make a strip set. Press seams toward the white strip. Repeat to make a second strip set. Crosscut the strip sets into (52) 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" strip segments. 1 1/2"

4. Stitch a 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" white strip to opposite sides of each block center. Press seams toward the strips. Sew a strip segment to the top and bottom of each pieced unit to complete (26) 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" Setting blocks.

Completing the Quilt Note: Refer to the exploded quilt diagram as needed throughout the following steps. Press all seams open between the blocks and rows, except always press seams away from the Corner and Center panel blocks to be sure that the

flange strips will be flat against the quilt top.

1. Stitch 2 Setting blocks together with 2 Flower blocks to make a 6 1/2" x 24 1/2" vertical A row referring to the exploded quilt diagram for positioning of blocks. See note above for pressing instructions. Repeat to make a second row.

2. Sew 2 Flower blocks together with 2 Setting blocks to make a 6 1/2" x 24 1/2" vertical B row. Repeat to make a second row.

3. Stitch an A row to the left edge of a B row to make the left row. Sew the remaining A row to the right edge of the remaining B row to make the right row. Stitch the rows to the left and right sides of the Center panel block. Press seams away from the Center block.

4. Sew 5 Setting blocks together with 2 Flower blocks to make a 6 1/2" x 42 1/2" row. Repeat to make a second row. Stitch the rows to the top and bottom of the pieced center section.

5. Stitch 4 Setting blocks together with 1 Flower block and 2 Corner blocks to make the 6 1/2" x 42 1/2" top row. Repeat to make the bottom row. Sew the rows to the top and bottom of the pieced center section to complete the 42 1/2" x 48 1/2" quilt center.

6. Stitch the 1 1/2" x WOF white strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seams to 1 side. Cut into (4) 48 1/2" strips, (2) 44 1/2" strips and (2) 52 1/2" strips. Sew a 48 1/2" strip to the long sides of the quilt center and 44 1/2" strips to the top and bottom. Press seams toward the strips. Set aside the remaining 48 1/2" strips and 52 1/2" strips for step 8.

7. Sew the 1 1/2" x WOF red strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seams to 1 side. Cut into (2) 50 1/2" strips and (2) 46 1/2" strips. Stitch the 50 1/2" strips to the long sides of the quilt center and the 46 1/2" strips to the top and bottom. Press seams toward the strips.

8. Stitch the 52 1/2" strips from step 6 to the long sides of the quilt center and the 48 1/2" strips to the top and

bottom. Press seams toward the strips.

9. Sew the 3 1/2" x WOF floral strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seams to 1 side. Cut into (4) 54 1/2" strips. Stitch a strip to the long sides of the quilt center and then to the top and bottom to complete the top. Press seams toward the strips.

10. Remove the selvage edges from the 68" backing pieces. Join the

pieces on the long edges with a 1/2" seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim the side edges to make a 62" x 68" backing piece.

11. Layer the quilt top and backing with a 62" x 68" batting piece. Quilt as desired and bind using your favorite methods and the red texture binding strips.

Adding Yo-Yos

1. Sew a gathering stitch around the edge of a red circle with

doubled and knotted thread, turning the edge under 1/4" as you sew. Pull the thread ends to tightly gather the edge into the center. Knot and cut the thread ends. Flatten the gathered circle with the opening centered. Repeat to make 104 yo-yos.

2. Place a yo-yo at each corner of the floral center squares of each Setting block referring to the cover quilt. Hand-stitch around the yo-yo edges with matching thread to complete the quilt.
