people with a virus that causesthem to become violent andwant to kill others.

Ok, I'm not telling you thatpeople with Ebola will startto walk and try to infect otherpeople, but communities inLiberia that are in quarantinemay have reason to becomeangry.

In the game, we play to becomea hero with our character, butin real life, the doctors, healthcare workers and researchersare playing this role. The big question is: are we allgoing to die of Ebola?

$Something happen, something in town, oh yeahthe news(...) Ebola in town, don't touch your friend, no eat

something, it's dangerous, nokissing(...) it's more than HIV/AIDS, it can kill you quick-quick$

So say the words of a songby Liberian rappers Shadowand D-12, but it's di! cult toimagine that we are all goingto die of Ebola.

A lot has been done to preventthe spread of the virusworldwide since the outbreak, and according to WHO,

vaccines will be launched inJanuary of 2015.

Yes, we have heroes, andwhat must be done is not turnaround and forget after thisoutbreak has passed.

Now that it's still in the newsheadlines, $Ebola in town$ hasbecome an 'infectious' songabout the illness, intendedto alert people in a creativeway, but after the outbreak,

everybody needs to continuebeing alert, just like the HIV/AIDS virus in the 80s.

launched a series on YouTubetalking about female rolesand tropes in videogames.

Violence against womenhas been happening sincetime immemorial. Womenhave always been treatedin most cultures as theweak, sensitive, helplesssex. Unfortunately, SamPepper still perpetuates this

old concept and spreads itthroughout the world thatits funny to touch womenwithout their permission, leading countless potentialcopycats.

According to the CanadianHuman Rights Commission, harassment involves anyunwanted physical or verbalbehaviour that o&endsor humiliates. Generally, harassment is behaviour that

persists over time. Seriousone-time incidents can alsosometimes be consideredharassment too.

It occurs when someonemakes unwelcome remarks

or jokes about your race, religion, sex or gender, age,a disability or any other

grounds for discrimination. It also includes threats, intimidation, unwelcomephysical contact such astouching, pa3ing, pinchingor punching, which can alsobe considered assault.

Most schools or workplaceshave a human resourcescounsel to deal withsituations like these.

If you feel threatenedby someones behaviourtowards you, make it clearthat you dont want thisto happen again and thatyou feel uncomfortable

or annoyed by it. In caseof persistence seek helpimmediately, and dont tryto take justice into your ownhands. If youre on the street, look for a police o! cer.

A Manitoba Justice VictimServices document statesthat, once the police haveenough evidence against aperson, they will lay criminalcharges and a judge or thepolice will decide if the

accused should be released.Regardless of how or whenthe accused is released, he/

she will be ordered not tocommunicate with you or gonear where you live, work, goto school or worship. Failureto follow these conditionswill result in further criminalcharges for the accused.

Years after the incidentin my job, I can see thatmy decision was right.I was young, nave and

was scared of those men. I

know that the harassmentcould have been muchworse, but I still don'tthink I deserved what Igot. I shouldve talked tothem first and made themunderstand that they wereharassing me and made itclear that I wasnt pleased.Next time, I ll show anyonethat tries to diminish methat I am strong, confident

    and will not allow this.

Recently, the UnitedNations released a reportestimating the number ofmarijuana-smokers in theworld. According to this, over 10% of Americans

15 years old and up areregularly smoking cannabis. This situation is not onlyhappening in the US butalso Canada, Nigeria, andAustralia. If this seems high(no pun intended), then

why are people locked intothe weed and still haventquit?

Some people who are for thelegalization of marijuanasay that over 90 published

reports and studies haveshown that marijuana hasmedical e! cacy. However, those opposed say that ifthe government legalizesnow-illegal drugs, crimerates would increase. So,what makes people so crazyabout marijuana? Simplyput, what are its real e&ects?

Is marijuana the root of all evil or thedaughter of God?

Wikipedia states thatmarijuana (also commonlyknown as cannabis, weed, pot, ganja, etc.)is a preparation of thecannabis plant intended

    for use as a psychoactivedrug and as medicine.Basically, it is driedhemp buds which containt e t r a h y d r o c a n n a b i n o l(THC), the principalpsychoactive constituent

of cannabis. Modernuses of cannabis are as arecreational or medicinaldrug, and as part of religiousor spiritual rites> the earliestrecorded uses date from the

between scientists. Asthey say, marijuanas sidee&ects for a man includeimpotency, decreasingtestosterone level, anda reduction in spermcount. The worst e&ectsfor teenagers are negativechanges in a3ention andshort-term memory.

    I surveyed 25 ILSC students

and teachers about whatthey know about marijuana, whether they use it and ifso, how often.

As you can see from theresults, some people are

confuses about the lawregarding its use. Before weargue whether marijuana isgood or bad, the governmenthas to educate people whodont know much about thedrug.

Smoking can cause di&erentdiseases and some of themare fatal. As everybodyknows, health a&ects all thespheres of our lives. Mostpeople know that smoking

can destroy. It causes cancerof the lungs and otherdangerous diseases.

However, there are othermethods of consuming thedrug besides smoking. Someusers bake it into spacecakes, while others invest ina vaporizer a device thatgently heats the herb insteadof burning it, making moree! cient use of the bud andsaving ones lungs from theharmful e&ects of smoke.Whatever your take is on

marijuana, make sure youhave all the facts before youget on your high horse.

The legal status of marijuana, however, is in dispute. Some politicians in Ontario

have repeatedly insistedthat Canadas marijuanalaws be lifted. However, ifa prescription is obtained, people can buy marijuana.Furthermore, the cultivationof the hemp plant of the

genus Cannabis is currentlylegal in Canada (if it isfamily Cannabaceae.) Inconsequence of this law, police in Canada havejurisdiction to pursuecriminal charges for cannabis

possession. In reality, theydont really give a damn aslong as its for personal use.

You see a girl (or a boy) atthe bar and she is really cute. She looks at you, you bothsmile at each other. Match*Now you make a move andgo talk to her. Pre3y normal, right? Now imagine doing

that with dozens of othergirls without even ge3ing o&of your couch. That's Tinder. And let's be honest, youprobably know it already.

    Launched in 2012, the

matchmaking app is basedon a very simple structure. You see a picture of apotential match, his/her "rstname, age and your commonfriends and interests, allconsensually extracted

    from the person's Facebookaccount.

A short bio may be added, also. Based on that, you getto choose whether you likethe personand express thatby swiping his/her picturerightor not, sliding your"nger to the left. If both of

Does the rise of Tinder mean the fall ofirting?

you like each other, the appwill notify you about the newmatch and allow you to chatand give love a trythroughyour mobile 4G connection.

    However, it's not always

a bed of roses. Just likeany other social network,Tinder has come across ahuge amount of criticismsince its release date. Someof the $conservative daters$might claim that the app

users are merely judgingpeople based on theirlooks, regardless the $realqualities$, triggering somekind of an online beauty-worshiping frenzy.

Added to that, once you'relogged into Tinder, there'salways the solid possibilityof matching with somebodywho's only interested in"nding immediate sexualintercourse, commonlyrepresented by the slang$dtf$, which stands for$down to f@@@$.

North America has founditself one new culturalobsession, and one doesn'thave to look deeply in orderto "gure out what it is: curvygirls and their big (big*)booties. Just by skimmingthrough the top 40's of thelast few months you can"nd Jennifer Lopez andIggy Azalea's $Booty$, MajorLazer's catchy Bubble Bu3,Meghan Trainor's smashhit $All About That Bass$and Nicki Minaj's over-

    explicit ass-empoweringAnaconda.

Trainor and Minaj havesomething else in common, though. Both have beenaccused of making use

of embarassing and/ordegrading lyrics about thingirlsin order to a! rm somekind of a $booty-pride$ thathas been named by manypeople as $skinny-shaming$.

"I said, where my fat ass bigbitches in the club? / F***the skinny bitches! / F*** the

skinny bitches in the club!"-- Anaconda, lyrics byAnthony Ray / Onika Maraj/ Jamal Jones / JonathanMyve3 / Ernest Clark /Marcos Palacios

"You know I won't be nostick-#gure, silicone Barbiedoll [] I'm bringing bootyback / Go ahead and tellthem skinny bitches."-- All About That Bass, lyricsby Meghan Trainor andKevin Kadish.

The accusations towardsthe two singers are prettyclear: the diminishing ofthin girls presented in theirtop hits is just as degradingas any other kind of body-

shaming and, because ofthat, must be avoided. After all, no personshould be shamed by theirappearance, regardless oftheir size.

However, in order todiscuss this matter as awhole, it's really important

    The Skinny on Skinny-Shaming

    By Pedro Emanuel Maia

to analyze those lyricsandskinny-shaming itselfwithin a context. Thereare three concepts thatmust help one understandthis phenomenonnot as

acceptablebut, at least, from another perspective.Even though skinny-shamingis to be considered somethingbad, really bad, it can never belevelled to fat-shamingassome may be trying to do

because of the social power, privilege and oppressioninvolved.

Oppression can be de"nedas $subjugation of a groupof people by another groupof people who have accessto social power, the result ofwhich bene"ts one group over

the other$. That brings us to acontext in which it is alreadyimpossible to take skinny-shaming as oppression: agroup with social power cannotbe oppressedpre3y muchbecause this social power sets

a series of privileges that won'tbe given to the other group, theoppressed.

It might sound a li3leentangling, at "rst, butlets clarify it with a fewexamples. Thin people(especially those thin by

nature) have social powerbecause society has de"nedthat their natural bodiesare the ideal. Their shape iswhat's socially acceptableand what should be soughtby every other human being.

Because of that, they'reentitled to privilegesandthat includes having moreclothing options, beingconsidered beautiful by themajority, and so on. On theother hand, the oppressed

group has to face a series ofdisadvantages simply by not"3ing the standards.

However, oppression is acultural and social issue, and those privileged by it

are usually not aware of itwhich is why thin girls areentitled to feel personallyo&ended by skinny-shaming.The point is: this $a3ack$ onthin bodies is a rupture ofthe oppressive system since

fat girls $often believe themessages and internalize theoppression,$ but Trainor and

    not upto thea l l e g e do&enders tode"ne that.

    S k i n n y -

shaming isnot somethinggood and, onceagain, no kindof body-shamingshould be encouraged.

However, Anacondaand All About That Bassare not to be judged by the$skinny-bitches$ content, but to be celebrated as ahuge-butt-encourager(and, of course, as

amazing booty-shaking tunes for aFriday night).

Minaj are trying to do thingsdi&erently.Thats the important thingto be noticed about skinny-shaming. It isnt exactly

about shaming skinnygirls, but aboutfor onceempowering the curvy-shaped ones, giving them aplace under the spotlights. The ma3er here is it'sabout justice, not

    equality.

They may beopposing andunlevelling fatand thin women, butthey do so in an a3empt

to correct a standard that wasalready unlevelled. It hashappened before with whatpeople call reverse racism, and also with the conceptsof cis-scum or breeders (inopposition to transphobia

or homophobia). Thoseare never going to be hugeproblemsmostly becausetheyre not problems at all.

If we tend to skepticism, its possible that those

composers didnt even meanto bring up skinny-shamingin an o&ensive way, but its
